After being on the barge for what felt like days, Ray was thankful to get his feet back onto solid ground. Sheera seemed better, not her usual self, but better. He watched as Grim was off in the distance speaking to what Ray could only assume was a port official. The discussion suddenly became heated, prompting Ray to head in that direction in case Grim needed some backup.
"What do you mean that the road to Shadowborne Villa is closed?" Grim asked heatedly.
"Just what I said Grimwald, the road, she be closed from the valley onward. Major rock slide. Them idjets from the county thinkin' they's all smart, well they done gone and blew the top right off, Killearn and now it be everywhere." The dwarf said, "'tis gonna be days, if not weeks to clean that mess up, unless you got some way to move them boulders outta the way, you and yur friends, well you be stuck," he said, motioning to the barge. Ray came up behind Grim.
"There a problem here?" Ray asked, looking directly at the dwarven official. Grim abruptly turned to Ray.
"Easy there big fella." He snickered.
"There is a problem but it's not Drummel's fault." Ray's posture relaxed.
"So what's up then?" he asked, looking down at Grim curiously.
"Seems the county folks decided that Mount Killearn didn't need a top nomores," he said sarcastically.
"They were doing one of their projects and someone messed it up. The top of that there mountain is now blocking the road we needs to get to the Shadowborne Villa. They say it's going to be days or weeks before theys can remove alls the rubble," he said, taking in a sharp breath.
"Drummel here says we be stuck here in town until theys can gets it all sorted," he said, taking his hat off and swiping his hair back.
"Drummel?" he asked, looking at the official. Drummel looked up at Ray nervously, then looked at Grim who nodded at Drummel.
"Drum, he's fine, relax, wills ya," he said, before turning back to Ray.
"I don't knows whats it is about yous, but you just seems to haves this way with the locals," he said, rolling his eyes.
"He's be a good guy, just in extra jumbos form." Ray looked down at Grim, shaking his head and smirking, before looking back at Drummel.
"Drummel, what's the current situation? Are we talking about a bunch of rocks blocking the road or are we talking about a mountain top sitting on the road?" The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Drummel pondered the question looking Ray up and down.
"I guess that depends on your 'spective," he said, "Lookin' at yous, I would says it's more rocks than mountain."
"Okay," he said, looking at Grim.
"I say we go check it out. It can't hurt. It's not like we have somewhere else to go. At best we get the closure cleared up, at worst we camp out overnight and work on it until it gets cleared out."
"The union mightd have somethin' to say about thatd Grim, and yous knows it," Drummel said, shooting him a cautious look.
"You know how the theys gets with outsiders workin' county jobs."
"Well, if Amilik wants a fight I wills give him ones. You can tells him to take it up with me," Grim said.
"The county needs that road cleared and wes offering to help them out, I don't sees the problem. It's not like we're asking to take them jobs away from the locals, we justs need to get throughs the road.""'Tis yur funeral bub." Drummel said, turning and walking back to the office. Grim turned to Ray.
"Wells if we're going to dos this we better be on our ways." Grim said flatly.
"I think we can rummage enough supplies from the Cargo ship, most of that stuffs was heading toward Shadowborne anyways. I'll haves the boys start loading up them wagons."
"We have wagons?" Ray asked, "so we won't have to walk all the way?" Grim burst out laughing.
"If you thinks yous is gonna fit in a wagon, well I think yous mays be a little disappointed." Ray looked down at himself as the pair began making their way back to the ship, "Are you saying I'm fat, Grim?" Ray asked, feigning hurt.
"I'm crushed, Grim, I really am, I expected more from you." He snickered. Grim stopped suddenly, "It's not just the issue of fittin' you in a wagon, it's about them poor beasts that will then haves to pulls your ass down the road." Grim said, pointing to the corral on the side of the building.
"See them?" he asked, pointing.
"Aww, they're cute, so tiny." Ray said, smiling.
"Where's the grown up version?"
"Thems are the growed up version," he said with eyebrows raised.
"See thems over theres?" he asked pointing to the other side of the dock area.
"Well, them there be the wagons." Ray looked to the area that Grim was pointing to.
"You're kidding me right?" He scoffed.
"Seriously? Those aren't wagons, they are shoe boxes with wheels."
"Understands now?" Grim asked, shaking his head.
"You'll be walkin'. Hey, the exercise will dos you some good," he said, patting Ray's stomach. Ray looked down at Grim.
"Keep it up little man, and you'll be flying to the Villa." He laughed.
