"Just put him over there, make sure he is strapped down tight," Doctor Wentworth said, motioning to the gurney in the corner.
"Look, there must be some mistake," Armand said, struggling.
"I'm the one who helped you guys get to my realm. I'm on your side," he protested as the guards effortlessly picked him up by the arms and legs and pinned him to the gurney, while another man in a white coat strapped him down.
"Yeah, I know, and thanks for that, we couldn't have managed to get there without you," Doctor Wentworth said, making his way to a small table filled with instruments.
"Now, you can help us even more," he said, pressing the plunger on the hypodermic needle watching as liquid squirted out.
"But... but," Armand said, struggling against the restraints.
"You need me to continue to give you access to my realm. You can't get in and out without me," he said, trying to express his perceived importance.
"Actually, no, we just needed you to open the gate once, now our sensors can hone in on it and we can get there pretty easily actually," Doctor Wentworth said, making his way over to Armand's bedside.
"Now stay still, I don't want to make this any more uncomfortable for you than it needs to be, you know, considering how helpful you have already been. It's the least I could do," he said, smiling gently as he injected the substance into Armand's arm.
"There you go, you should start to relax now," he said, motioning to the guards to back off as he could see the drug beginning to take hold.
"Let Mordak know, he's prepped and ready," Doctor Wentworth said to one of the guards.
"Franklin, how's it going in here?" Mordak asked, cheerfully as he entered the room.
"Never mind," he motioned to the guard before turning to Mordak.
"Perfect timing, Sir, I got the subject sedated, he poses no threat so you can come closer." Mordak cautiously approached the bed that the now unconscious Armand lay on.
"So that's what these things look like, quite revolting if you ask me," he said, leaning over Armand, with his hands behind his back.
"Is this one an elf or a fairy? I'd say fairy based on the wings, but he does have those ears like an elf," he said, looking up at the doctor.
"Well, sir, based upon the information he has, he is actually a mixture of both, which makes him an almost ideal test subject. We do have a pure blood elf, though. It's in containment, if you'd care to take a look," the doctor said, detached.
"Maybe later, right now, I am far more interested in this one here," he said, motioning to Armand.
"So, this is the one who got us in the door?" he asked, taking a seat.
"Yes, sir," Wentworth confirmed.
"He's also the one that said he knew one of the fairies personally, Calista?" Mordak asked.
"Or whatever her name is. The other one is Tina or… I don't know, it doesn't matter." Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"I believe the one he knows is named Celestia, sir," Wentworth corrected.
"Celestia, Calista, same thing," Mordak said dismissively.
"So, was she successfully taken into custody too then?" he asked, hopefully. She needed to pay for killing the baby, he had waited five long years to enact his revenge.
"I'm afraid not, sir. By the time our men got to her last known whereabouts, she and the toy were gone," Wentworth said, sounding disappointed.
"That's why we took that one in instead."
"I see," Mordak nodded.
"Some fairy is better than no fairy in the bigger picture, I suppose."
"Yes, sir, I am confident that by using samples from this subject we will be able to hone in on the specifics of both Elven and Fairy DNA, creating a target for the virus. When we reactivate the program, the illness will spread quite quickly in not just the fairy realm, but the elven realm as well." Wentworth smiled.
"We have agents in both realms preparing the modified toys for distribution as we speak. The nanobots will begin replicating rather quickly and infecting anyone in close proximity. They will then lie dormant until we introduce the modified coding. Both realms should be decimated in a matter of a few days."
"Excellent." Mordak said, almost giddy with excitement.
"How soon until we are able to proceed?" he asked, desperate to see his plan come into fruition.
"Well, first I have to extract the genetic material from the subject, then isolate and separate the genetic codes," he said, thinking out loud.
"Once that is done, we need the techs to write the code." He paused to think.
"Sir, have you decided on a delivery method to get the code to the nanobots to activate them? The last time it was under the cover of a vaccine, I don't think we can use that this time," Wentworth said.
"Why not? If we let a couple of hundred of them get sick, it will cause panic, then they will be fighting for a vaccine," Mordak said, indignantly.
"Sir, we don't have the resources to vaccinate not just one realm but two. That would be something that would require more manpower than we have. Even if we began mass producing the so-called vaccine, we are potentially creating doses in the millions, if not billions," Wentworth said, hoping Mordak would see the logistical issues of an operation on that scale.
"Well then, what do you suggest?" Mordak snapped.
"Sir, let me discuss it with the tech guys. I am sure they can devise a much more efficient mass delivery system. It's just going to take a little time to get all the pieces put together." He sighed.
"We will get there. It just won't be today. I'm guessing it will take a few months to get everything ready to go," he said optimistically.
"You have one month, Wentworth. Understand? One month. I don't care if you have to have them on around the clock. I expect you to be ready in one month." Blackwood demanded.
"Sir, begging your pardon, but just isolating the genetic material and separating it so the weapon works on both species will take that long. The replication process…"
"I don't care about the specifics or your timelines. I am giving you one month to get it done. If after one month you don't have it done, well…" he paused.
"I don't think I need to explain what will happen if you don't. You're a smart guy, I'm sure you can figure it out," Mordak said, giving Wentworth a smile that would make anyone's skin crawl.
"Yes, sir," Wentworth whispered, all color draining from his face.
"I will do my best to work within your parameters."
"You… WILL… work within my parameters, or you won't be working ever again," Mordak said, standing up, glancing over at Armand who lay blissfully unaware and cringed.
"They really are quite disgusting. I can't wait to wipe them out of existence," he added before leaving the room.
