Luna and I continued to watch the event as the number of players remaining dwindled. That Heavenly guy forfeited straight after his victory against the orc, but, he had probably achieved what he wanted and more so it didn't matter. Soon, only 'known' rankers were left in the event. I say 'known' because, I don't know any of them. Apparently the [Sword Princess] is the [Sword Saint]'s granddaughter?
It makes me wonder if the [Sword King] is her father—I don't actually know if that's actually a title, I'm just guessing. The difficultly of rounds increased exponentially, with each ranker taking longer and longer to complete it. It was quite interesting seeing these rankers pushed to their limits. Even Anonymous was taking his time. Only 'boss' level monsters were spawning in now. Gramps—I mean, the Sword Saint narrowly dodged the ogre's attacks, when he retaliated with a swing, his sword would glow blue.
As hard as he tried, he couldn't cause any deep wounds; The ogre would heal most of it's injuries at a visible rate. That copycat—I mean, the Witch of Flame had turned the arena to a sea of flames, yet, the ogre powered through the fire step by step. Fireballs and other magic was thrown at the monster, yet, it remained unhalting. Soon, it towered over the glaring woman and as it lifted its club high, the round ended; She forfeited. The little princess—I mean…
Actually, yeah, the little sword princess—who's definitely older than me—was desperately struggling against a shadow jaguar—the monster of the 28th round. Her body was riddled with cuts and scratches; With gritted teeth, she swung her sword fiercely but was only met with air. Just then, the jaguar appeared from the shadows behind her and clawed her back. In the midst of all these high-tension fights, Anonymous' round number quietly went up by 1. Honestly, these fights just feel so foreign to me.
They're so out of reach that I can only watch in awe. I couldn't even think of how many dynokali potions it'd take to kill these monsters. However, simultaneously, I was also thinking of potions that could kill these monsters. To stop the ogre's regeneration, maybe I'd make a coagulation potion or something similar. For that shadow jaguar, I'd need a potion that could remove the shadows. Could I create specific monster-weakening potions? Creativity was flowing.
If I wasn't focused on my current mana manipulation training, I'd be in the kitchen, brewing and conceptualizing new potions right now. Glancing to my left, I saw Luna leaned forth and completely focusing her attention on the arena. Unlike the usual smiling face she showed to me, she now looked serious and cold—which was her usual expression to other people. Hehe, haven't seen that face in a while. I smiled and quietly snapped a photo. After the brief photo session, I turned my attention back to the arena.
The little sword princess was eliminated, and Gramps somehow dealt with the ogre but took serious injuries in the process. It looked like the event wouldn't go on much longer. … And I was right, the event ended a little later. The last person remaining was, as expected, Anonymous. Unfortunately, we couldn't see his arena even when there was no one else remaining. So, the hosts just gave some closing remarks and casually chatted about the event until Anonymous eventually lost or forfeited.
"Wow…" I leaned back in my seat and stretched my arms wide, "Haah…"
"That was fun." Luna commented, her smiling face returning, "Did you enjoy the event?" She asked.
"Mm." I nodded, "Saw so much~" I lazily said.
"Good," She nodded, "Do you want to go home now? Or we could stay until the tower kicks us out."
"Mm…" I thought for a moment, "Do events really only last one day?" I asked. Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. I was thinking about the logistics—is it really worth it to buy an expensive building that you could only use for 12 days? They'd have to renovate it, set it up, advertise it…And then all that work would get removed when the town switches.
"Depends on the event." Luna explained, "Not all events are 1-day combat events. Some last for a week or two."
"Ah, that makes sense. I nodded, "Then, we won't be back for another month or longer, so, let's explore." I smiled and took her hand.
"Sure." She smiled in return and we exited the colosseum. Surprisingly, we weren't in there for long. Once the gauntlet started, it only took a few hours to be done with. So, the food from La Revoir was still settling in my stomach. Yet… I secretly glanced at the girl beside me. …Why does she still look hungry? I internally sighed,"Should we get dinner here? I doubt we'll come to a fancy place like this anytime soon?" I asked.
"Huh!" She perked up, her imaginary mouse ears seemed to be twitching, "Really?" Just what am I supposed to do when she looks at me like that?
"Mm." I nodded.
"Are you sure…?" She glanced at my stomach, "Can you fit more food in your stomach?" …I'm feeling deja vu…
"Anything I don't eat, I'll have as leftovers." I said.
"Okay! That works." She smiled, "Where should we go?"
"Mm…Any ideas? I'll leave it up to you."
"Perfect! I know just the place!" She dragged my hand, moving slightly faster. I shook my head with a smile as I trailed behind the girl. Soon, we were walking side by side. While Luna seemed to know exactly where we were going, she seemed to notice my curious gaze and slowed down so I could look at more of the buildings. … The man sighed as he read the screen. [You have forfeited the round!] [Current Round: 33] [The 'Gauntlet' event has been completed.] [You're rank #1 on the event leaderboard!] [Rewards: 1, 000, 000 Points, 1 Platinum Skill Token] Though he had gotten rewards, he didn't look happy at all. Rather, he clutched his chest as a burning sensation flared throughout his body. Sucking in a deep, cold breath that painful feeling slowly cooled and dissipated.
"Can't you give me something better." He grumbled to the air. Shaking his head, he sighed before exiting the colosseum. The crowd was loud, everyone was chatting about the event. He heard praises and debates about how much stronger 'Anonymous' is than the Sword Saint. He could only shake his head in silence. He wasn't necessarily stronger than that old man. In fact, that man's techniques surpassed his own. Quickening his walk, he headed towards a place with less of a crowd.
All the noise was hurting his head and the poison in his body started to flare up. Gritting his teeth, he wondered just when he could get cured. A few years ago, he had challenged a gate due to it being close to his home. In there was a singular monster that snuck attacked him and landed one hit. At the time, he didn't think much of it and quickly dispatched it like usual. However, when he got home, he noticed he was poisoned.
After finding out an A rank antidote couldn't cure him, he visited various renowned doctors, priests, and even alchemists—yet, none of them could even tell he was poisoned, yet alone heal him. Now, whenever he used his mana or at random times, the poison would flare up and hurt like hell. Sighing once again, the man continued to walk. But, due to the poison, he briefly lost focus and ended up bumping into someone.
It was a small girl with blonde hair wearing a domino mask The girl stared at him for a moment, her nose slightly perking up as she tilted her head.
"Ah, sorry." He quickly apologized. Without waiting for a response, he stepped to the side and continued forward. Behind him, due to his heightened senses, he inadvertently heard the conversation between that blonde-haired girl and the silver-haired girl.
"Bin?" Luna said.
"Ah, yes? Sorry." Stella replied, shaking her head.
"What's wrong? You look out of it."
"Mm, it's nothing." Stella shook her head, "That man just now though…"
"Hm? What about him."
"I think he was poisoned? He smelt a little bitter." Stella said with a confused tone before continuing on.
"Eh, maybe he just hasn't used an antidote or headed to the church yet. There's plenty of monsters in the gauntlet that poison people." The man froze and quickly turned around. But, that girl was already gone. She…Noticed? He thought, his heartbeat rising. With a glimmer of hope now in his mind, he quickly started running towards where the girls just were. Yet…They were gone. Despite having gone in a straight line, they had vanished from sight completely.
"Ah…" The man let out. The girls had either left the event or their server switched—either way, they were gone. Replaying that conversation in his mind, he immediately started thinking of the information he just learned. That blonde-haired girl was named Bin, or at least that was what she was called. She had noticed the poison on his body that even S ranked people couldn't. Was this because of her class? Maybe it was a skill? Either way, if she could tell that he was poisoned…
Could she possibly have a way to cure it? Committing that girl's appearance to mind, hope appeared in his heart. Perhaps, he could finally rid himself of this annoying poison. …
"Speaking of," Luna started, "How could you tell he was poisoned?" She asked, "Did you get a new skill or something?"
"Eh?" I shook my head, "I don't know. I don't know how to explain it…He just smelt bitter I guess. Maybe he just hasn't showered in a while." I chuckled.
"Pfft," She chuckled, "What're you doing sniffing people?" She teased, "Do you like that kind of thing?"
"…" I glared at her before stopping and leaning closer to her, she looked at me with a confused expression before I loudly and very obviously started to sniff her, "What're you gonna do, if I do?" I retorted. From her cheeks to the tips of her ears, it all started to turn red. She quickly turned away, her breathing becoming loud.
"Hehe, just kidding." I stepped back, satisfied. … Luna and I happily ate at a nice restaurant. Though, it was more like her feasting, I simply kept mine for leftovers. When we returned home, I kicked off my shoes and flopped into the bed. Though it was fun, there was just way too much walking around; My feet hurt.
"You look like you're about to pass out." Luna commented.
"Mm…I'm sinking into dreamland." I lazily replied.
"Go take a shower first." She shook her head.
"Ugh…" I groaned and got up. Eventually, I pushed my body to the bathroom. … The next day, I was back in stride. I felt good! Even though I took a break from knitting yesterday, I felt like I had improved. Luna sat next to me, calmly watching a movie as usual. Hehe, maybe I'll finish Luna's scarf today. …
"Oh yeah, when are you going to equip that title by the way?" Luna suddenly said. I froze, nearly dropping the yarn in my hand and looked at her with sad eyes. Just why did she have to mention it… She shot me a teasing smile as I pitifully pulled up my titles menu and equipped the [Little Bomber] title.
