"I am not here as a soldier of the Empire," Dex continued, the bitterness of years welling up into his tone.

"And I am not here to carry on the wars of my ancestors, wars stained with dishonor." He drew a deep breath, then hurled his final charge directly into the commander's face: "I am here as a son. A son whose father is dying slowly from a poison for which no cure exists in all the kingdoms of men. I am here searching for the last remaining hope, in the only place where a true magic still endures, one untouched by human hands. I am here to ask for the Nectar."

The gazes locked in charged silence, the ancient elf's gaze, laden with centuries of betrayal, blood, and treachery, accustomed to seeing humans as nothing more than traitorous parasites... and the young prisoner's gaze, laden with despair, resolve, and a raw truth that could not be forged or faked. This was the true collision. A silent battle of wills, fought without swords or spells.
