The salty, humid air of the southern ocean carried the heavy scent of roasted fish, sea breeze, and blooming tropical flora. As the massive wooden hull of the passenger vessel groaned against the stone piers, the boarding ramp finally lowered with a heavy, echoing thud. Blake Belladonna stepped off the wooden ramp and onto the bustling, sun-drenched docks of Menagerie. For the first time in years, she felt the warm coastal wind brush freely against her newly exposed feline ears.
Without her signature black ribbon weighing her down, the ambient noise of the harbor was overwhelming, the shouts of fishmongers, the creak of rigging, the laughter of Faunus children chasing each other through the tightly packed market stalls.
"Whoa..." Sun Wukong stepped off the ramp directly behind her, his golden monkey tail swishing wildly in sheer, unadulterated awe. He stretched his arms high above his head, popping his shoulders as he took in the sprawling, chaotic beauty of Kuo Kuana. The island settlement was a vibrant tapestry of survival and culture. Houses constructed of bamboo, palm, and pale stone were stacked precariously atop one another, weaving up the steep, tropical hillsides. The sheer density of the population was staggering.
Two-thirds of the world's Faunus were crammed into this single, habitable sliver of land, yet the atmosphere vibrated with a resilient, thriving energy.
"This place is incredible!" Sun beamed, adjusting his unbuttoned white shirt as he jogged to catch up to Blake's brisk pace.
"I mean, I've heard stories about Menagerie back in Vacuo, but seeing it? It's like a completely different world. It's so... alive." Blake's amber eyes darted across the colorful merchant tents and the winding, narrow alleys. Her posture remained tense, her hand lingering near the hilt of Gambol Shroud at the small of her back.
"It is beautiful," Blake murmured, her voice carrying a complex, heavy layer of melancholy. She looked up toward the looming, fortified walls of the Chieftain's estate at the highest point of the city.
"But it's also a cage, Sun. A very beautiful cage that humanity pushed us into. And right now... it's a cage with a predator locked inside." Sun's exuberant grin softened into a look of quiet, steadfast loyalty. He stepped closer, his presence a warm, reassuring anchor amidst the bustling crowd.
"Hey. Whatever is waiting up there, you aren't facing it alone. We've survived sea dragons and the fall of Beacon. We can handle some hometown politics." Blake offered him a faint, grateful smile, and together, they began the steep ascent toward the heart of Kuo Kuana. The massive, heavy wooden gates of the Belladonna estate stood like ancient guardians overlooking the city. As Blake approached, the two Faunus guards stationed outside immediately crossed their halberds, their expressions stern.
"Halt. State your business at the Chieftain's residence," the guard on the left commanded. Blake stopped, lifting her chin. She let her amber eyes meet the guard's gaze, her exposed ears twitching slightly in the ocean breeze. The guard blinked, his stern expression dissolving into absolute, wide-eyed shock. He lowered his halberd instantly, stammering.
"M-Miss Blake?! By the Gods, open the gates! Open the gates!" The heavy wooden doors groaned inward, revealing an immaculate, sprawling courtyard filled with manicured gardens and flowing water features. Before Blake could even take three steps into the courtyard, the sliding paper doors of the main house violently slid open.
"Blake?" Kali Belladonna stood in the threshold. The matriarch of the household possessed the same striking feline ears and elegant features as her daughter. She dropped a small watering can onto the wooden porch, water spilling uselessly across the boards.
"Mom," Blake whispered, her voice cracking instantly.
"My baby!" Kali cried out, tears welling in her eyes as she sprinted off the porch. She threw her arms around Blake, pulling her into a fierce, desperate embrace, burying her face into her daughter's shoulder. Blake's rigid Huntsman composure shattered completely. She hugged her mother back with equal ferocity, burying her face in Kali's neck as years of regret, fear, and longing poured out of her in quiet, shuddering sobs. A heavy, booming footstep echoed from the inner halls.
Ghira Belladonna stepped onto the porch. The massive, broad-shouldered Chieftain of Menagerie filled the entire doorway. His dark beard and imposing panther-like presence usually commanded absolute, terrifying authority across the island. But as his golden eyes landed on his daughter, the fierce leader melted.
"Blake..." Ghira rumbled, his deep voice thick with emotion. Blake pulled away from her mother, looking up at the towering man. She took a hesitant step forward, tears streaking her cheeks.
"Dad... I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I left. I'm sorry I--" Ghira didn't let her finish. He closed the distance in two massive strides, wrapping his massive arms around both Blake and Kali, pulling his family into an unbreakable, protective cocoon.
"You're home," Ghira whispered, resting his chin on the top of Blake's head, his own eyes shining with unshed tears.
"That is all that matters. You are finally home." Standing awkwardly near the entrance gate, Sun Wukong watched the beautiful, tearful reunion with a soft, respectful smile, rubbing the back of his neck and trying his best to look small and unobtrusive. Eventually, Kali pulled back, wiping her eyes with a delicate, joyous laugh. She patted Blake's cheeks, beaming with maternal pride.
"Look at you. You've grown into such a beautiful, strong Huntress." Then, Kali's feline ears twitched. She looked past Blake's shoulder, her sharp eyes locking onto the blonde Faunus standing near the courtyard fountain.
"And who might this be?" Kali asked, her tears replaced by an immediate, sparkling curiosity. Sun instantly froze, his posture snapping into a rigid, terrified salute as if he were facing an Atlas drill sergeant.
"Uh! Ma'am! Sir! Sun Wukong! From Vacuo! I'm, uh, Blake's... teammate! Well, friend. Definitely a friend! A friend who happens to be a Huntsman! Sir!" Kali tilted her head, a warm, highly amused smile spreading across her face. She leaned in close to Blake, raising a hand to dramatically whisper just loud enough for everyone to hear.
"I like him," Kali whispered, her eyes dancing.
"He's very earnest. And quite handsome."
"Mom!" Blake's face erupted into a brilliant, fiery crimson, her hands flying up defensively. Ghira, however, did not share his wife's amusement. The massive Chieftain slowly straightened to his full, terrifying height. He crossed his thick, muscular arms over his broad chest, his golden eyes narrowing into a dark, suffocating glare that practically bored a hole straight through Sun's soul.
"Hmph," Ghira grunted, a low, rumbling growl vibrating in his chest. His body language radiated the absolute, universal energy of a deeply suspicious, highly overprotective father. Sun swallowed hard, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead as he offered a weak, trembling thumbs-up.
"N-Nice to meet you, Mr. Belladonna."
The tension of the courtyard gave way to the quiet, civilized comfort of the Belladonnas' traditional sitting room. The sliding paper screens were open to the garden, allowing a gentle breeze to carry the scent of jasmine over the low wooden table. This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. Kali poured hot, steaming green tea into porcelain cups, placing them gently before Blake and Sun.
"We have heard the fragmented broadcasts from Vale," Ghira said, his voice a low, serious rumble as he sat cross-legged at the head of the table. He looked at his daughter, his eyes filled with lingering dread.
"The Fall of Beacon. The White Fang breaching the city walls, unleashing the Grimm upon the students... it was a nightmare. When the CCT network went down, your mother and I feared the absolute worst."
"It was terrifying, Dad," Blake admitted, her hands wrapping tightly around her warm teacup.
"Adam Taurus led the charge. He brought a localized apocalypse to our doorstep. We fought, but we were completely overwhelmed. The Grimm Wyvern alone would have leveled the entire kingdom."
"But it didn't," Kali noted softly, leaning forward.
"The underground relays and merchant ships arriving in Kuo Kuana have spoken of a miracle. A single man who repelled the invasion. They call him the 'Hero of Vale'." Sun let out a sudden, boisterous laugh, nearly choking on his tea.
"A miracle?! Sir, ma'am, you have no idea! That guy is an absolute freak of nature!" Ghira raised a thick, skeptical eyebrow.
"The rumors claim he possesses a Semblance capable of parting the clouds, yet wields no weapon. I assumed it was Atlesian propaganda designed to keep the civilian populace from rioting."
"It isn't propaganda, Dad," Blake said, a profound, deeply respectful smile touching her lips.
"His name is Saitama. He doesn't use Dust. He doesn't have an Aura. He wears a bright yellow suit, complains endlessly about missing supermarket sales, and treats alpha-class Grimm like annoying houseflies." Blake looked down at her reflection in the tea, her golden eyes softening.
"He saved my life. He saved my friends. He showed us that absolute strength doesn't have to be cruel, or complicated, or filled with hatred like Adam's. Sometimes, the strongest person in the world is just... a guy sweeping the courtyard who genuinely cares about getting his groceries home on time." Ghira and Kali exchanged a look of profound bewilderment, struggling to reconcile the mythological savior of Vale with the image of a mundane, bargain-hunting janitor.
"Regardless of his eccentricities," Ghira murmured, bowing his head slightly in genuine gratitude, "if this man protected my daughter when I could not, he has the eternal gratitude of the Belladonna family." The warm, comfortable atmosphere of the reunion slowly began to fade. Blake's expression hardened, the nostalgic relief giving way to the cold, tactical reality of her arrival. She set her teacup down with a sharp, definitive clink.
She reached into the pocket of her white coat, pulling out the silver, highly encrypted scroll she had confiscated from the White Fang spy in Junior's club. She slid the scroll across the wooden table until it rested perfectly between her parents.
"Mom. Dad," Blake said, her voice dropping into a tight, severe register that made Ghira's posture instantly rigid.
"I didn't just come back to Menagerie to visit. I came back because you are in immediate, life-threatening danger." Kali's hands flew to her mouth, her breath catching.
"Blake... what is this?"
"Three nights ago, my team intercepted a White Fang operative lurking in Vale's underworld," Blake explained, her golden eyes locking onto her father's.
"I bypassed the encryption on his tactical log. It contains high-priority, direct operational orders sent from the command hub in Mistral to the Menagerie regional branch." Ghira frowned, picking up the scroll. His golden eyes scanned the scrolling, blood-red text. As he read, the color slowly drained from his weathered face.
"This..." Ghira whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of horror and rising fury.
"This says that Sienna Khan..."
"Sienna is gone, Dad," Blake said, her voice cracking under the weight of the shadow war.
"Adam Taurus has staged a violent coup. He has completely overthrown Sienna's leadership, either by imprisoning her or assassinating her. The White Fang doesn't belong to the moderates anymore. It belongs to him. And he is mobilizing every loyalist cell he has left." Blake leaned across the table, her hands trembling slightly as she pointed at the final line of text on the screen.
"Adam knows that as the former High Leader, and the current Chieftain of Menagerie, your political influence is the only thing standing between him and the total radicalization of the Faunus," Blake choked out, tears of fear pricking her eyes.
"The order is a mandate for your assassination, Dad. They are setting up a surveillance perimeter around this estate right now. They are coming to kill you." Kali let out a choked sob, leaning heavily against Ghira's arm. Ghira sat perfectly still. The immense weight of his legacy, his peaceful philosophy, and the monstrous monster his former pupil had become crashed down upon him. He closed his eyes, his massive hands clenching into fists on his knees.
"Adam..." Ghira rumbled, a deep, sorrowful growl vibrating in his chest.
"I feared his hatred would eventually consume him. But to turn his blades against his own brothers and sisters..." Knock. Knock. Knock. The sudden, sharp rapping at the estate's heavy front doors echoed through the quiet house like a gunshot. Blake and Sun instantly shot to their feet. In a blur of motion, Gambol Shroud and Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang were drawn, the metallic clicks of their shifting mechanisms loud in the tense air.
Blake stepped in front of her parents, her feline ears pinned flat against her skull, her amber eyes burning with lethal intent.
"They're here," Blake hissed, her finger resting on her trigger. Ghira stood up slowly, raising a massive, calming hand.
"Blake. Sun. Stand down. Sheathe your weapons."
"Dad, are you crazy?!" Blake whispered frantically, not lowering her blade.
"They're here to kill you!"
"They are expected guests," Ghira corrected smoothly, his voice regaining its deep, unyielding diplomatic authority. He smoothed the front of his robes, his golden eyes fixed on the hallway.
"Kali, please let them in." Kali nodded nervously, wiping her eyes before hurrying down the corridor. A moment later, the sliding screens parted. Two tall, imposing Faunus men stepped into the sitting room. They were clad in identical, immaculate white robes accented with gold and black. Their posture was eerily synchronized, radiating a smooth, practiced serenity that sent immediate shivers of revulsion down Blake's spine. Corsac and Fennec Albain. The high-ranking representatives of the White Fang in Menagerie.
Blake's aura flared violently. She leveled Gambol Shroud directly at Corsac's chest, her teeth bared in a fierce snarl.
"You!"
"Ah. Miss Belladonna. It is a profound, unexpected pleasure to see you return to your roots," Corsac said, his voice dripping with an oily, practiced smoothness. He didn't even flinch at the firearm aimed at his heart, offering a shallow, entirely hollow bow.
"And she has brought a... companion," Fennec added, his narrow eyes shifting toward Sun with a look of polite, thinly veiled disdain.
"How delightful."
"Blake, lower your weapon. Now," Ghira commanded, his voice carrying the absolute weight of the Chieftain.
"Dad, these men are White Fang!" Blake shouted, her hands shaking with rage.
"They are the enemy! They attacked my school! They helped bring the Grimm into Vale!" Corsac placed a hand gracefully over his heart, his face twisting into an expression of profound, theatrical sorrow.
"A tragic, deeply regrettable misunderstanding, young Belladonna. We assure you, our hearts wept for the innocent lives lost at Beacon Academy." Ghira crossed his massive arms, his golden eyes narrowing suspiciously as he looked between the Albain brothers and the encrypted scroll still resting on the table.
"My daughter brings heavy accusations against your organization, Corsac. She claims the White Fang orchestrated the Fall of Beacon under Adam Taurus's command."
"And she is entirely correct, Chieftain," Fennec answered smoothly, stepping forward with his hands clasped behind his back.
"Adam Taurus was indeed present at Beacon. He led the charge. But you must understand... Adam Taurus does not speak for the White Fang." Blake blinked, her weapon wavering just a fraction of an inch as confusion interrupted her fury.
"What?"
"Adam has become a rogue extremist," Corsac lied flawlessly, his voice weaving a tapestry of perfect, calculated deception. He looked at Ghira with earnest, pleading eyes.
"He has splintered from our core philosophy. High Leader Sienna Khan was absolutely horrified when she learned of his unsanctioned, violent alliance with human terrorists in Vale. The true White Fang entirely condemns his actions." Fennec nodded solemnly, completing the rehearsed narrative.
"We are currently dedicating all our internal resources to apprehending Adam and his rogue splinter faction. They have disgraced the name of our movement. We came here today, Chieftain, to assure you that the White Fang in Menagerie remains committed to your vision of peace." Ghira stared at the two brothers. His tactical mind weighed the encrypted scroll against their smooth, flawless alibi.
The scroll proved Adam was plotting a coup, which perfectly aligned with the Albains' story that Adam was a rogue operative acting against Sienna Khan's wishes. Slowly, the tension left Ghira's massive shoulders. He nodded, a heavy sigh escaping his lips.
"I see," Ghira murmured, gesturing for Blake to lower her weapon.
"If what you say is true, and High Leader Khan is actively hunting Adam down... then I accept your assurances. The peace in Menagerie must be maintained."
"We ask for nothing else, Chieftain," Corsac bowed deeply.
"We shall take our leave. We will keep you updated on our progress regarding the traitor." With a final, sickeningly polite smile toward Blake, the Albain brothers turned and glided out of the sitting room, the sliding doors clicking shut behind them. Blake finally lowered Gambol Shroud, her hands shaking with a mixture of adrenaline and deep, sickening doubt.
"Dad... you can't actually believe them."
"I believe in diplomacy until I have undeniable proof of treason, Blake," Ghira said softly, placing a heavy, comforting hand on her shoulder.
"If Adam is truly a rogue element, moving against the Albains now would only incite a civil war on this island. We must be cautious."
Outside the towering wooden gates of the Belladonna estate, the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting long, bloody shadows across the cobblestone streets of Kuo Kuana. Corsac and Fennec Albain walked shoulder-to-shoulder, their immaculate white robes shifting flawlessly with every synchronized step. They kept their eyes fixed forward, their serene expressions never wavering until they were entirely out of earshot of the estate guards.
"A shame the daughter returned so abruptly," Fennec murmured quietly, a cold, venomous edge creeping into his previously polite tone.
"Her presence introduces unnecessary complications to the timeline. She is a trained Huntress." Corsac offered a small, chilling smile, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at his own folded hands.
"A minor hurdle, brother. Nothing more," Corsac whispered, the absolute, fanatical devotion to the new regime burning in his chest.
"Our performance bought us the time we require. High Leader Adam's will is absolute. The splinter group lie will keep Ghira blind until the perimeter is fully secured." Fennec nodded, a dark, anticipatory gleam in his eyes.
"And then?"
"And then," Corsac said smoothly, disappearing into the shadows of the crowded marketplace.
"Ghira Belladonna will fall, and Menagerie will finally belong to the true revolution."
