"We have to fix the beginning," said Bart, Elian looked at the screen, then at the massive manuscript.

"What does that mean?" Bart pointed at the Treatise.

"Your three books aren't wrong because they cite one another. Scholars cite later work all the time."

"Then what is wrong?"

"They cite one another as the origin." Gregor nodded slowly, working through the logic.

"So they can recommend each other."

"Essentially," Bart said.

"They just can't all claim the other one started it." Bart considered that.

"Then your silver hair is even less defensible!" Gregor slowed his pace. He looked back at the arguing academics, then looked at Bart and Elian.

"Should we tell them?" Gregor asked. Bart kept walking.

"We did in a way" Gregor caught up, matching his stride.

"They don't seem to know."

"They know where to look," Bart said. They found the white door marked STAFF RESTROOM in the cellar of a minor administrative building near the edge of the city. Bart opened it. Whoosh! Gurgle! A damaged, collapsed alcove near the edge of the Reading Room groaned. Split wood repaired itself, straightening into pristine oak. He paused and set his pen down with deliberate care and drew the damaged key from beneath his grey collar with a gloved hand. A faint, pale blue display projected upward from the cold metal.
