The simple and quiet hum of the Student Council room is quiet and simple. Prince Valerian sits at the head of the long table as he goes over important documents. He is behind on his work. It would seem that many things have happened in his absence. Most of them have some connection to The Chosen One. This is something that Prince Valerian finds intriguing, but not intriguing enough for him to break from his quiet and si- The door suddenly opens in a rough manner. Penelope waltzes in, closing the door behind her.
The door in question had a sign that clearly said 'Do Not Disturb'. Penelope did not care. Prince Valerian sighs.
"Poppy, you do know that there was a sign, right?" Penelope gives him a suspicious look.
"Are we alone?" she asks, ignoring his question.
"Yes, we are."
"Not even Beatrice?" Penelope asked.
"Beatrice is out dealing with matters that pertain to the Vice-President. So, yes, Poppy, we are alone," Prince Valerian says, fully knowing where this is going. Penelope walks over to the table and grabs a quill. She then proceeds to throw the quill across the room, right at Prince Valerian's head. The quill rips through the air at an astonishing speed, but then suddenly stops as a shimmering white bubble forms around Prince Valerian.
"That wasn't nice, Poppy," he says. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
"Neither is calling me Poppy, but here we are," she says with a hint of anger.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Penelope. I had forgotten. You're an adult now. No use for childhood names. So, what brings you here, again?" he says as the white bubble disappears.
"I want to know if the Student Council is aware of the symbols appearing all across the Whisperwood Forest and on campus," she says as she sits down.
"We are aware," Prince Valerian says, avoiding a full answer.
"And what are you doing to solve it?"
"We are letting the Imperial Knights handle it," he says as he signs a paper. Penelope clicks her tongue as she gets up.
"The Imperial Knights are busy as is with the Blight. You expect them to divert resources to deal with a case of vandalism and a murder?"
"I expect them to do their job. They will get to the bottom of this. In the meantime, I will worry myself with my job," he says as he signs another paper.
"Your job? People's lives are in danger, Val. The forces of evil are making their move, and you're just going to sit there signing papers?" she says, letting slip her mask of calmness.
"What would you have me do, Penelope. Would you like me to put the school on lockdown? Would you like me to send everyone home with the authority I wield as a Prince? Or would you like me to start questioning every single noble student in this school until something shakes loose? Do you know the uproar that would cause? The push back from the noble houses would bury the investigation before we got anywhere," he says as he signs another paper. Penelope shakes her head.
"So, we just stand here and do nothing?"
"No. I sign these papers for additional security and ward protection, the Imperial Knights will do their job, you will not do anything reckless, and we will survive this storm," Prince Valerian says as he signs another paper. Penelope sighs and then walks to the door.
"I hope you're right, but I can't just stand by and let everyone else do the work for me," she says and then leaves the room. Prince Valerian sighs and then looks down at the papers in front of him. A growing stack of responsibility and lives. He signs another paper.
