"I am officially bored," Ken announced lazily to the empty hallway.
"Walking through metal tubes is very repetitive. All the doors look exactly the same. We should have brought a map. Or maybe a tour guide. A tour guide with complimentary beverages would be fantastic right now." Naomi walked back to him. She nudged his arm affectionately.
"Just a little further, Ken. We will find the lab soon. Then we can go home and eat."
"I will hold you to that promise," Ken grinned a goofy grin. They walked deeper into the hostile facility. The air grew colder. The lights grew dimmer. The 13th Unit did not know they were walking toward a horrifying discovery. They did not know the dark truth waiting for them in the research wing.
The 13th Unit reached a massive set of double doors at the end of the corridor. The doors were painted a sterile, bright white. A sign above the doors read: Primary Biological Research. Princess Iris stepped forward. She placed her hand on the metal panel. She pushed the doors open. The doors slid apart with a soft hiss. The team stepped inside the laboratory. The room was vast. It looked incredibly creepy. Pale surgical lights flickered on the ceiling. Long metal operating tables sat in the center of the room.
Thick leather straps hung from the tables. Huge glass tubes lined the walls. Some tubes were empty. Other tubes were filled with a sickly, glowing green liquid. Risa hugged her stuffed teddy bear tightly against her chest. The pink-haired healer looked very scared. Her green eyes darted around the room.
"This place is scary," Risa whispered softly. She hid behind Zinia.
"It smells like bad medicine and old blood. I do not like it here." Zinia patted Risa's shoulder gently.
"Do not worry, Risa. We will not stay here long. We just need to find some files." Ken Eliot walked into the lab. He slouched his shoulders. He looked at the creepy medical beds. He shivered dramatically.
"I absolutely hate going to the doctor," Ken complained loudly. He shoved his hands into his pockets.
"These beds look incredibly uncomfortable. They do not even have soft pillows. This is a terrible hospital." Naomi smiled a tiny smile. She walked past him.
"It is not a hospital, Ken. It is a nightmare." Sayma walked straight to a large, cluttered desk in the corner. She pushed her thick glasses up her nose. She saw stacks of classified research documents. She saw thick, leather-bound experimental records. Her analytical mind went to work instantly. She opened the top folder. She started reading the papers. The laboratory went totally silent. The girls watched Sayma. They waited for her to share her findings. Sayma's eyes widened behind her glasses.
Her face turned completely pale. All the color drained from her cheeks. Her hands started to tremble slightly. She dropped her pen onto the desk. It made a sharp clicking sound. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
"Sayma?" Princess Iris asked. Her violet eyes filled with deep concern.
"What is wrong? What do the records say?" Sayma took a slow, shaky breath. She looked at her Princess. Her polite, confident demeanor vanished. She looked absolutely horrified.
"These are the original experimental records," Sayma whispered. Her voice cracked with pure disgust.
"These documents reveal the exact origin of the Ashura race. It is entirely monstrous." Laxmi crossed her arms.
"What did they do? Did they mutate wild animals?"
"No," Sayma answered flatly. She picked up a piece of paper. She read the horrifying truth aloud.
"They did not use animals. They used people. They kidnapped ordinary citizens from the poor outer districts. They took homeless people. They took people nobody would look for." The elite girls gasped in pure shock. Risa covered her mouth with her hands. Tears formed in her eyes.
"They took normal people?" Naomi asked softly. Her green eyes filled with intense anger.
"They turned innocent citizens into those gray-skinned monsters?"
"Yes," Sayma confirmed grimly. She pointed a shaking finger at the documents.
"The records explicitly state that corrupt high-ranking nobles orchestrated the entire project. The files specifically name Lord Voss and Minister Thorne. They funded the kidnappings. They wanted to build a disposable, unstoppable army." Princess Iris gripped the hilt of her silver rapier tightly. She felt entirely sick to her stomach. She hated the corrupt nobles. Sayma continued reading the tragic details.
"They hired Dr. Carrion. The rogue scientist developed a horrific biological process. They strapped the innocent victims to these medical beds. They injected the victims with raw, unrefined Solurius radiation."
"That radiation is totally toxic," Zinia growled. Her deep voice rumbled with absolute fury.
"The radiation destroyed their human DNA," Sayma explained.
"It mutated them into mindless, gray-skinned biological weapons. It caused glowing green veins to form across their bodies. It granted them immense physical strength. But the process also required a specific fuel." Sayma picked up a small, empty glass vial from the desk. The vial had a faded label on it.
"The Ashura monsters were engineered as expendable assassination tools," Sayma read the final, devastating conclusion.
"To keep them aggressive and compliant, they fueled the monsters with toxic Devil Flour serum. The serum completely erased their minds. The victims are totally devoid of pain. They are completely devoid of human consciousness. They are just empty, violent shells." The laboratory was completely silent. The sheer scale of the evil was unimaginable. The corrupt politicians traded human lives for cheap biological weapons. Laxmi punched her open palm. Bright orange flames roared to life around her hands.
She did not smile. She looked fiercely angry.
"That is absolutely disgusting. Lord Voss and Minister Thorne are pure evil. I want to burn this entire laboratory to the ground. I want to turn it into ash." Naomi drew her twin silver daggers. Her knuckles turned white.
"They stole people from their homes. They tortured them. We have to make them pay for this." Ken stood near a large glass tube. He listened to the horrific story. He slouched his shoulders. He did not look goofy right now. He looked very serious for a brief second. He felt a deep sense of quiet disgust. Politicians who hurt normal, innocent people were the absolute worst. Ken quickly put his lazy smile back on his face. He needed to break the miserable tension in the room. He did not want his friends to feel sad.
He walked toward a large, shiny red button on the wall.
"Well, those politicians sound like massive jerks," Ken stated casually. He pulled a piece of candy from his pocket. He popped it into his mouth.
"I definitely agree with Laxmi. We should break their expensive toys. I bet this shiny red button turns off the air conditioning. Or maybe it dispenses snacks. Let us find out."
"Ken, do not touch anything!" Sayma warned loudly. Ken completely ignored her. He leaned lazily against the wall. He intentionally bumped his elbow directly against the large red button. The button clicked loudly. Instantly, the entire facility lit up. Harsh, flashing red emergency lights began to spin on the ceiling. A massive, deafening alarm siren started blaring through the metal corridors. WOOOP! WOOOP! WOOOP! The noise was absolutely overwhelming. It echoed across the underground base.
