"I rule the oceans," Poseidon declared proudly. His voice boomed across the courtyard.
"I control the naval forces. The seas belong entirely to me. I am giving you a very strict warning today. Keep your disorganized, messy unit completely out of my maritime missions." Laxmi cracked her knuckles. She did not like bullies. A bright orange flame ignited around her fist.
"We go where we want. We are not afraid of a little water." Poseidon laughed cruelly.
"You should be afraid. The ocean is a terrifying place. It is full of massive sea beasts. It has deadly storms. My fleet is completely unstoppable. If you try to interfere with my coastal operations, you will drown. I will sink your little team to the bottom of the sea." Zinia crossed her strong arms. The earth mage smiled a tough, confident smile.
"You talk very loudly. But we have fought monsters before. We can handle a few fish." Poseidon gritted his teeth. He hated their defiant attitude. He wanted them to cower in fear. He opened his mouth to shout another threat. Ken Eliot completely ruined the intense, intimidating mood. Ken took a loud, crunchy bite of his candy. He slouched his shoulders as far as possible. He looked at Poseidon with sleepy, half-closed eyes.
"I totally agree with the big guy," Ken announced casually. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets.
"The ocean is absolutely terrible. It is a massive mistake. The water is full of salt. Salt makes your eyes burn. It is very painful." Poseidon froze. He stopped glaring at Iris. He looked at Ken. His wild green eyes blinked in pure confusion. He did not understand what was happening.
"Who are you?" Poseidon demanded aggressively. He pointed at Ken.
"Why is your shirt completely untucked? You look like a beggar." Ken ignored the insult. He gave Poseidon a big, goofy smile.
"Plus, the beach has sand. Sand gets everywhere. It ruins my shoes. It makes my socks itchy. I hate the beach. I am a professional land-dweller." Naomi covered her mouth. She tried very hard not to laugh. Sayma pushed her glasses up. She hid a small, polite smile. Laxmi snorted quietly. Ken nodded his head. He looked very serious about his lazy opinion.
"I fully support your ocean monopoly, Poseidon. You keep the wet fish. We will keep the dry couches. It is a flawless deal. We will totally stay out of your way." Poseidon stared at the messy boy. He felt completely baffled. He wanted to intimidate a rival Royal unit. He expected a fierce argument. He did not expect a goofy slacker to agree with him about itchy sand.
"You are a complete clown," Poseidon sneered in disgust. He turned his attention back to Princess Iris.
"Control your pathetic servants, Iris. Just remember my warning. Do not step foot near my ships. Do not take any maritime missions. I will not show you any mercy on the water." This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work. Poseidon let out one final, boisterous laugh. He spun around on his heel. He marched away across the pristine marble courtyard. His rough, scary servants followed closely behind him. They quickly disappeared toward the palace training grounds.
Princess Iris let out a quiet breath. She watched her brother leave. She turned to her team.
"My brothers are incredibly territorial. They want to secure their domains."
"He talks too much," Laxmi grumbled.
"I really wanted to singe his green shirt."
"Let him talk," Sayma said politely.
"We have our own path." Ken stretched his arms. He let out another loud yawn.
"All this yelling is making me thirsty. I am going to find a water fountain. I need a cold drink. I will meet you guys at the carriage in five minutes." Naomi smiled and shook her head.
"Do not get lost, Ken. We are leaving in ten minutes."
"I never get lost," Ken lied smoothly. He turned around. He shuffled away from the group. He dragged his shoes on the marble stones. Scuff. Scuff. Scuff.
The train doors opened with a soft hiss. The 13th Unit stepped out onto the train platform. The bright morning sun shined down on them. The sky was a perfect, clear blue. White seagulls flew over the station. They made loud, happy noises in the air. The smell of salt and fresh ocean water filled the entire town. It was a beautiful, sunny coastal resort city. Princess Iris walked at the front of the group. She wore a simple, professional dark blue suit. She walked right next to an older man.
This man was a traveling government diplomat. He wore a neat gray suit. He held a small leather briefcase. Princess Iris acted very polite. She watched the crowds carefully. She played the role of a highly dedicated, official bodyguard perfectly. The rest of the elite girls followed closely behind them. Naomi spun a small silver dagger in her hand. She hid the blade quickly inside her jacket. Laxmi smiled brightly. She loved the warm ocean breeze. Sayma walked with perfect posture.
She pushed her thick glasses up the bridge of her nose. Zinia carried a large duffel bag effortlessly. Ira walked in a completely straight line. Her face showed zero emotion. Luna let out a massive yawn. She rubbed her sleepy eyes. Risa hugged her stuffed teddy bear. She looked around the sunny town with pure wonder. Ken Eliot walked at the absolute back of the group. He dragged his cheap shoes on the wooden platform. Scuff. Scuff. Scuff. He carried two massive suitcases.
He slouched his shoulders as far as they could go. He let out a loud, dramatic groan. His face looked incredibly miserable.
"My arms are officially filing for bankruptcy," Ken complained loudly. He stopped walking. He dropped the suitcases onto the wooden planks. The bags made a loud thud.
"These bags are completely filled with solid rocks. Why does a diplomat need so many clothes? We are only staying here for a few days. He should just wear the same shirt twice. I do it all the time. It saves a massive amount of laundry time." Naomi stopped walking. She turned around and walked back to him. She did not yell at him. She did not glare at him. Her attitude toward him had changed completely. She smiled a very warm, friendly smile. She playfully nudged his arm with her elbow.
She treated him exactly like a lazy, highly entertaining friend.
"Stop whining, Ken," Naomi teased gently. Her green eyes sparkled with amusement. She reached down and grabbed the handle of one suitcase.
"I will carry this one for you. You just carry the other one. We are almost at the hotel. You can take a nap when we get inside."
"You are the absolute best coworker in the entire world," Ken grinned a goofy grin. He picked up the remaining suitcase.
"I will buy you a snack later. A very cheap snack, but it is the thought that counts." Naomi chuckled softly. They continued walking down the busy street.
