Ira nodded her head once.
"My water reserves are sufficient. I can cover an area of three hundred square meters." Sayma turned to Zinia.
"Zinia, you will use your earth magic immediately after Ira. You will churn the wet soil and the broken cobblestones. You will turn the flooded street into a deep, incredibly slick mud pit." Zinia cracked her knuckles. A fierce grin spread across her face.
"I can definitely make some mud. They will sink right up to their knees."
"Finally," Sayma concluded. She looked at Luna.
"Luna, once they are trapped in the mud, they will try to use their linked magic to escape. You will hit the wet mud with a continuous electrical current. The water will conduct your lightning perfectly. It will paralyze their nervous systems. They will not be able to maintain their physical enhancement spell." Luna let out another loud yawn.
"So I just zap the mud? That sounds very easy. I can do that while sitting down."
"It is a flawless countermeasure," Princess Iris declared proudly. She looked at her team.
"We will neutralize their physical advantage entirely. We will trap them in the mud and break their linked spell. Then, Naomi and Laxmi will finish them off." Naomi smiled warmly at Ken. She playfully bumped his knee with her hand.
"You did a good job today, slacker. Your lazy logic actually gave us the perfect strategy. I am very impressed."
"I am a fountain of incredible wisdom," Ken bragged casually. He slouched his shoulders again. He closed his eyes.
"My brain is very large. It requires lots of rest. Please wake me up when the fighting starts."
"You are coming with us right now," Naomi chuckled softly. She pulled his arm.
"Stand up, Ken. We are moving out."
"This is a massive tragedy," Ken whined. He slowly stood up. He dragged his cheap shoes on the wooden floor. Scuff. Scuff. Scuff.
"My legs are officially filing a grievance. I am going to need an entire chocolate cake to recover from this walk."
"I will buy you a slice of cake," Naomi promised gently. The 13th Unit gathered their supplies. Sayma closed her notebook. She turned off the glowing blue projection crystal. The holographic map vanished from the air. The abandoned tavern went dark again. Princess Iris drew her silver rapier. The blade shined brightly. She looked at her elite vanguard. She felt incredibly proud of her friends. They always found a way to win. They always worked together perfectly.
"The tactical plan is set," Princess Iris commanded smoothly.
"We will initiate a structured advance. We are heading directly toward the primary conflict zone. We will intercept the Lion King's army before they reach the inner city."
"Let us go!" Laxmi cheered loudly. She tossed a final spark of fire into the air. Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. The team walked out of the tavern. They stepped back onto the ruined streets of Mira. The thick gray smoke still filled the sky. The smell of burning wood lingered in the air. The city was completely quiet. The citizens were hiding in their homes. The 13th Unit moved in a perfect combat formation. Naomi and Laxmi walked at the front.
They kept their eyes focused on the road ahead. Sayma and Princess Iris walked in the center. Zinia guarded the right flank. Ira guarded the left flank. Luna shuffled sleepily behind them. Risa stayed safely in the middle. She hugged her teddy bear tightly. Ken Eliot walked at the very back of the group. He kept his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He slouched his shoulders. He looked completely bored. He did not look like a warrior. He looked like a guy who was lost on his way to the grocery store.
They walked for twenty minutes. They navigated through the damaged streets. They passed broken statues and shattered windows. They did not speak. They maintained absolute stealth. Finally, Sayma held up her hand. She signaled the team to stop.
"We have reached the optimal interception point," Sayma whispered politely. She pointed to a wide, open plaza located just ahead of them. The plaza was surrounded by tall stone buildings. It was the only main road leading to the inner city. The invading army had to pass through this exact spot.
"This is the primary conflict zone," Princess Iris confirmed softly. She looked at the wide open space.
"It is perfect for our trap." A loud, rhythmic sound echoed from the far end of the plaza. It sounded like an earthquake. It was the sound of hundreds of massive, metal-plated boots marching in perfect unison. Thump. Thump. Thump. The ground beneath the 13th Unit began to vibrate. Small pebbles bounced on the cobblestone street. A huge cloud of dust rose into the air at the end of the plaza. The invading army was approaching.
"They are here," Naomi stated fiercely. She drew her twin silver daggers. The blades clicked sharply. She smiled a confident, brave smile. Laxmi slammed her fists together. Bright orange flames roared to life around her knuckles. Zinia planted her boots firmly on the ground. She prepared her earth magic. Ira raised her pale hands. Moisture gathered around her fingers. Luna sparked yellow electricity in her palms. Ken stepped behind a large, broken stone pillar. He slouched his shoulders.
He pulled a wrapped piece of strawberry candy from his pocket. He unwrapped it slowly. He popped the candy into his mouth. He chewed it happily.
"I have the best seat in the house," Ken mumbled lazily to himself. He watched the dusty road.
"Let the games begin." The 13th Unit stood perfectly ready. They positioned themselves flawlessly. They waited in the shadows of the plaza. They were totally prepared to intercept the invading army. The massive battle for the city of Mira was about to erupt into absolute chaos.
The ground vibrated beneath the ruined streets of Mira. Small rocks bounced on the cracked pavement. Dust cleared slowly from the far end of the central plaza. The invading army finally marched forward. They moved in perfect, terrifying unison. A massive man led the army. He was the Lion King. He wore incredibly thick metal armor. A large, dark fur cape hung from his broad shoulders. He carried a giant spiked club in his hands. His elite soldiers stood right behind him. They looked very dangerous.
They held sharp swords and glowing magical staffs. Princess Iris raised her silver rapier. She pointed the shiny blade toward the enemy.
"Move forward," Princess Iris commanded smoothly. Her violet eyes were totally calm.
"Keep a tight formation. Do not let them separate us." The 13th Unit advanced toward the central battlefield. They walked through the devastated terrain of the city. The area was totally ruined. Smashed wooden wagons littered the road. Broken glass covered the cobblestones. The destruction was massive. Naomi walked near the very front of the group. She twirled her twin silver daggers. The metal clicked sharply. She stepped carefully over a fallen stone pillar. Laxmi walked right beside her.
The fire user cracked her knuckles loudly. Orange flames danced across her fingers. She grinned a fierce, excited grin.
