Sayma stayed in the exact center of the formation. She held a small blue magical crystal in her hand. The crystal glowed brightly. It projected a tiny, glowing map into the air above her palm. Sayma pushed her thick glasses up her nose. She maintained continuous magical surveillance. She monitored the enemy movements perfectly.
"The enemy forces are highly concentrated," Sayma reported politely. She clicked her pen. She wrote a quick note in her notebook.
"They have heavy magical artillery stationed in the back rows. We must stay completely alert. They will try to overwhelm us from a distance." Ken Eliot walked at the absolute back of the formation. He shoved his hands deep into the pockets of his tailored navy blue suit pants. He slouched his shoulders as far as they could possibly go. His white shirt hung completely untucked over his belt. He dragged his cheap shoes on the broken pavement. Scuff. Scuff. Scuff. He let out a loud, dramatic yawn.
"This road is absolutely terrible," Ken complained lazily. He looked down at his dusty shoes.
"There are too many cracks in these stones. I almost tripped twice. Walking on broken roads is very bad for my ankles. Can we please find a smoother street? My suit is getting totally ruined." Naomi turned her head. She looked back at Ken. She did not yell at him for his untucked shirt. She did not call him a coward. She smiled a very warm, friendly smile. She playfully bumped her shoulder against his arm.
"Just watch your step, Ken," Naomi teased softly.
"Stay right behind Sayma. I will make sure nobody bothers you. You just focus on not falling over."
"You are the best, Naomi," Ken grinned a big, goofy grin. He popped a piece of strawberry candy into his mouth. He chewed it happily.
"I will carefully supervise the backline. I will let you know if a rogue pigeon attacks us from above." The Lion King spotted the 13th Unit. He stopped marching. He glared at Princess Iris with pure hatred. He raised his giant spiked club high into the air. He let out a booming, terrifying roar. The sound echoed across the ruined buildings.
"Crush them!" the Lion King ordered his troops loudly.
"Leave absolutely no one standing!" The enemy vanguard charged forward. They sprinted across the ruined plaza. The magical artillery in the back rows raised their staffs. They fired a massive, overwhelming barrage of energy blasts. Bright red lasers shot through the sky. Huge balls of toxic green acid flew directly toward the girls. It was an overwhelming initial assault. The sky filled with highly destructive magic.
"Defensive positions!" Princess Iris shouted firmly. The 13th Unit deployed their high-tier defensive spells immediately. Zinia stomped her heavy combat boot onto the cracked pavement.
"Stone Fortress!" she yelled deeply. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Massive slabs of solid rock ripped violently out of the ground. The rocks formed a tall, curved wall right in front of the team. The red lasers slammed directly into the stone. The impacts created loud, deafening explosions. Dust flew everywhere. The rock wall held strong. Zinia planted her feet and gritted her teeth. Sayma stepped right behind Zinia.
She thrust her hands forward.
"Absolute Hexagon!" Sayma commanded smoothly. A brilliant golden honeycomb barrier snapped into place. It covered the top of the rock wall perfectly. The green acid balls crashed onto the golden shield. The acid hissed loudly. It melted into harmless white smoke. The barrier did not crack. Sayma kept her arms raised. Sweat rolled down her face.
"Their magical output is incredibly massive," Sayma noted. She pushed her glasses up with a shaking finger.
"They are trying to completely overwhelm our shields with pure volume." Ira stood perfectly still near the wall. Her pale face showed zero emotion. She raised her hands. Water gathered quickly around her fingers. She created a fast, spinning vortex of water directly behind the golden shield. Any stray magic sparks that slipped past the barrier hit the water and fizzled out instantly.
"Statistically speaking, this level of heavy bombardment cannot last forever," Ira stated in her flat, robotic voice.
"Their mana reserves will eventually deplete. We simply must endure the initial surge." Luna leaned against a broken piece of the wall. The lightning user rubbed her sleepy eyes. She let out a massive yawn.
"They are making so much noise. My ears are ringing. Can we ask them to lower the volume? I really want a nap." Ken crouched safely behind the broken rock wall. He sat on a piece of clean rubble. He chewed his candy slowly. He watched the massive explosions light up the sky above them. He did not look scared. He just looked bored.
"This is basically a terrible fireworks show," Ken mumbled lazily to himself. He crossed his ankles comfortably.
"The colors are nice, but the explosions are way too close. A stray rock almost hit my knee. I need a much safer spot." Laxmi grinned wildly. She watched the enemy artillery fire their staffs. She punched her open palm.
"I want to hit them back. Sitting behind a wall is incredibly boring. Let me go roast them."
"Wait for my signal, Laxmi," Princess Iris instructed calmly. Her violet eyes scanned the chaotic battlefield through a small gap in the rocks. She watched the enemy movements very closely. She looked for an opening. The Lion King swung his giant club. He smashed a nearby wooden cart into tiny splinters. He wanted his troops to push much harder. The enemy soldiers charged closer to the rock wall. They prepared to breach the defenses with their swords. Princess Iris turned to her Vice-Captain.
"We need to disrupt their backline. We must stop that magical artillery. They are pinning us down." Sayma nodded politely. She quickly calculated a new tactical plan. She looked at the blue projection from her crystal.
"The artillery mages are standing directly near the supply wagons. If we destroy those wagons, we cut off their mana potions. We can disrupt their entire supply line perfectly."
"That is the plan," Princess Iris agreed. She looked at her commanders.
"Naomi, Laxmi. You are the precise strike team. You will target the supply lines. Zinia, open a path for them." Naomi spun her daggers again. She smiled a fierce, confident smile.
"You got it, Princess. We will tear their backline completely apart." Laxmi cheered loudly. Bright orange flames roared to life around her hands.
"Finally! It is time for some real action!" Ken peeked his head over the broken wall. He watched Naomi and Laxmi prepare to run. He gave them a lazy, goofy thumbs-up.
"Good luck out there," Ken encouraged them casually.
"Try not to get too sweaty. And please do not accidentally blow up a bakery. I might want a pastry later." Naomi laughed softly. She playfully winked at Ken.
"I will save you a cupcake, slacker. Just stay down." Zinia placed her hands flat against the rock wall. She focused her strong earth magic. She waited for the perfect moment. The enemy bombardment paused for just a single second. The artillery mages needed to recharge their glowing staffs.
"Now!" Princess Iris yelled.
