"Your acting skills are very impressive," Ken complimented her dryly.
"You could definitely win an award. But I am not my team. I do not care about your tears. I do not care about your sad stories. I am just here to get the absolute truth before the others arrive. So, we are going to skip the drama and go straight to the answers." Anny sneered. She crossed her arms.
"You are just a messy servant. You cannot make me say anything. I will deny everything in court. You have no proof." Ken dropped his arms to his sides. The goofy, slacker posture melted away entirely. He stood up perfectly straight. The lazy, sleepy look vanished from his dark eyes. His gaze turned incredibly cold. He looked right through her.
"I do not need a courtroom," Ken stated flatly. The atmosphere in the luxurious penthouse changed in a single heartbeat. The room grew freezing cold. The bright sunlight coming through the windows seemed to dim. An aura of absolute, terrifying command filled the space. Ken did not shout. He did not pull out a weapon. He simply raised his right hand. He snapped his fingers. Snap.
The sharp sound of the snap echoed loudly across the massive living room. It was not a normal sound. It carried a wave of intense, high-level magic. Ken unleashed a terrifying spell known as "Soul Possession." The magic was completely invisible. It shot across the room and hit Anny directly in the chest. It effortlessly bypassed all of her mental barriers. It ripped right through her deceptive nature. Anny's body went completely rigid. Her arms fell limply to her sides. Her posture straightened unnaturally.
The cold, angry look on her face vanished entirely. Her beautiful blue eyes went totally blank. She looked like a hollow, lifeless mannequin standing in the middle of the room. She could not move a single muscle on her own. Ken walked slowly out of the kitchen area. He stopped a few feet away from her. He looked into her empty eyes.
"The lying is officially over," Ken commanded. His voice was deep, flat, and absolute.
"You will answer my questions. You will speak the unfiltered truth. Do you understand?"
"I understand," Anny replied. Her voice was no longer melodic or emotional. It was completely hollow. It sounded like a robotic echo.
"Good," Ken said. He shoved his hands back into his pockets.
"Let us start with the scientist. Who was Carrion really? What did he actually discover?" Anny did not hesitate. The magic compelled her to reveal everything she knew.
"Carrion was a true genius," Anny answered monotonously. She stared blankly ahead.
"He was unparalleled in his field. The public thought he was researching an Eternal Youth potion. That was a carefully constructed lie. Potion research was true, but it was a cover story designed to hide his true work." This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. Ken nodded slowly. He had already guessed the potion was fake.
"What was his true work?"
"He was studying the Solurius radiation," Anny confessed.
"The radiation from the illegal mining waste. It was highly toxic. It was totally unstable. But Carrion cracked the code. He completed over forty percent of the theoretical framework. He figured out how to stabilize the radiation. He made the toxic waste viable for a military application. He designed the blueprint for the ultimate weapon." Ken frowned. The confirmation made him feel a deep sense of disgust. The brilliant scientist had solved the puzzle, and that puzzle was a bomb.
"What was the weapon for?" Ken asked coldly.
"Why did they need a radiation bomb?"
"It was a plot," Anny recited robotically.
"A terrifying, treasonous plot. Dr. Raven and Senator Norman orchestrated the entire plan. They funded the underground laboratories. They wanted to build the weapon to demonstrate their absolute power. They wanted to take control of the Empire by fear."
"Who was the target?" Ken demanded. His dark eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. Anny's blank face did not change.
"The target was Nivoria." Ken paused. Nivoria was a neighboring nation. It was a massive rival to Belmontia. The two nations had a long, tense history, but they were currently at peace.
"They wanted to test the apocalyptic Solurius weapon on Nivoria," Anny revealed in her flat tone.
"Dr. Raven and Senator Norman planned to drop the bomb on a populated Nivorian city. It was a mass-murder scheme. The radiation would melt the skin off millions of innocent citizens. It would start a catastrophic, global war. The chaos would allow Senator Norman to seize emergency control of the Upper Council." Ken felt a cold fury rise in his chest. These corrupt politicians were willing to slaughter millions of people in a neighboring country just to grab a little bit more political power at home.
It was absolute madness.
"If Carrion designed the weapon, why did he die?" Ken asked.
"Why kill the man building the bomb?"
"Carrion did not know the true target at first," Anny explained smoothly.
"He thought he was designing a theoretical deterrent. When he discovered the plot to actually bomb Nivoria, he was horrified. He morally objected. He fiercely refused to complete the final sixty percent of the framework. He threatened to destroy his own blueprints and expose the Senator."
"So they silenced him," Ken concluded quietly.
"Yes," Anny confirmed.
"Carrion refused to comply with their war crimes. Senator Norman ordered his immediate execution to protect the conspiracy." Ken looked at the beautiful woman standing frozen in front of him. He needed the final piece of the puzzle. He needed to know exactly how she fit into this terrible story.
"And who are you?" Ken asked sharply.
"Luis said you were Carrion's loving girlfriend. He said you promised to share the fortune." Anny's hollow voice continued without a single hint of shame. The invasive magic forced her darkest, most pathetic secret into the light.
"I was never his loving girlfriend," Anny confessed robotically.
"I never loved Carrion. I never cared about his life. I am a doll." Ken tilted his head.
"A doll?"
"I belong entirely to Senator Norman," Anny stated.
"I am his personal spy. I sustain a secret, illicit romantic relationship with the Senator. He bought this luxurious apartment for me. He buys me expensive clothes and jewelry. In exchange, I do exactly what he tells me to do."
"You were embedded in Carrion's life," Ken said, piecing it together completely.
"Yes," Anny agreed blankly.
"Senator Norman ordered me to date the scientist. I faked a loving relationship for years. I was deeply embedded in his daily routine. I watched his research. I monitored his progress. Every night, when Carrion went to sleep, I reported his secrets directly to the Senator." She did not blink as she delivered the final, damning truth.
"When Carrion decided to rebel against the Nivoria plot, Senator Norman told me to handle it," Anny admitted.
"I orchestrated the assassination. I manipulated Luis. I used his pathetic jealousy to make him plant the explosives in the laboratory. When Carrion was dead, I cried for the police. I played the grieving victim perfectly. The investigation was closed. The blueprints were secured."
