Three more wolves charged at her. They moved incredibly fast. They were a blur of glowing white fur. Suddenly, a loud, dramatic yawn echoed across the room. Luna sat up in her chair. The sound of the crashing glass had woken her up. She rubbed her sleepy eyes. She looked very annoyed. Her silver-blue hair was a messy tangle.
"You guys are being way too loud," Luna complained. Her voice was raspy from sleep.
"I was having a really good dream." A white wolf leaped toward Luna. It wanted an easy target. Luna did not even stand up. She lazily raised her right hand. She flicked her wrist.
"Zap," Luna mumbled. A jagged, blinding bolt of yellow lightning shot out of her fingers. The lightning cracked through the air. The sound was deafening. The yellow bolt struck the leaping wolf directly in the chest. The high voltage paralyzed the beast instantly. The wolf twitched wildly in mid-air. It crashed to the floor, totally knocked out. Smoke rose from its white fur. Luna lowered her hand. She sighed.
"Can we finish this quickly? I want to go back to sleep." The chaotic crossfire erupted. The laboratory turned into an absolute war zone. Naomi dashed forward. Green wind magic swirled around her combat boots. She moved with blinding speed. She was a red-haired blur. She spun around two attacking wolves. Her twin silver daggers flashed in the dim light. She delivered rapid, precise slashes. She cut the magical tethers holding the beasts together. The wolves dissolved into white mist. Ira stood perfectly still.
Her face was a blank mask. She summoned two long whips of highly pressurized water. The water whips cracked like real leather. She lashed out. She tripped the charging wolves. She slammed them into the metal walls. Zinia threw massive chunks of solid rock. Sayma cast golden barriers to deflect the snapping jaws. Princess Iris directed the combat flow with perfect, regal authority. It was a brilliant, flawless display of elite magical power. The girls worked together perfectly.
They dismantled the terrifying pack of wolves piece by piece. Underneath the metal desk, Ken Eliot watched the fight. He stayed completely still. He did not scream anymore. He did not make any goofy jokes. His dark eyes tracked the glowing white wolves. He was not scared. He was actually experiencing a very rare feeling. Ken felt genuine, internal shock. He was the Sovereign. He possessed an omniscient, god-like detection radius. His magical senses covered the entire city block.
He could usually feel a person breathing from a mile away. He always knew when enemies were approaching. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. But this time, he had felt absolutely nothing. He had no idea the wolves were on the roof. He had no idea someone was about to break the glass. The ambush was a total surprise.
"This is very interesting," Ken thought to himself. He rested his chin on his hands.
"My radar is flawless. Nobody sneaks up on me. But someone just did. This enemy used an incredibly rare cloaking ability. They completely bypassed my senses. That requires a massive amount of skill." Ken was not angry. He was intrigued. He liked a good puzzle. The mastermind behind this attack was smart. They wanted to bury the evidence. They wanted to bury the 13th Unit. Ken looked through the gap under the desk. He watched the white wolves fight. He noticed something specific. The wolves were coordinated.
They moved with purpose. They were not mindless beasts. They were following silent orders.
"There is a leader," Ken realized silently.
"One of these wolves is acting as a relay. The summoner is watching us through the eyes of the beast." Ken scanned the chaotic room. He ignored Laxmi's roaring fire. He ignored Luna's blinding lightning. He looked past Naomi's spinning daggers. He found the target. Standing in the darkest corner of the laboratory, staying completely out of the fight, was the largest white wolf. It did not charge. It did not snarl. It just watched. Its toxic red eyes tracked Princess Iris. Ken knew exactly what he had to do.
He needed to find the unseen master. He needed to know who possessed such an advanced cloaking skill. He seamlessly slipped out from under the metal desk. The girls were too busy fighting to notice him. The blinding flashes of fire and lightning created deep, shifting shadows in the room. Ken used those shadows. He completely dropped his goofy slacker act. He moved with absolute, terrifying silence. He did not use super speed. He just walked perfectly.
He stepped through the crossfire without a single spell touching him. He slipped into the darkest corner of the room. He stood directly behind the massive alpha wolf. The wolf did not hear him. The beast was too focused on the Princess. Ken looked down at the snarling creature. His sleepy eyes opened fully. They turned cold, dark, and utterly merciless. He tapped into his absolute authority. He was ready to track the invisible tether. He was ready to find the true mastermind.
The massive white wolf crouched in the shadows. Its red eyes glowed brightly. It watched Laxmi punch another beast into mist. It watched Sayma block a snapping jaw. The alpha wolf was gathering data. It was preparing to strike Princess Iris. Ken Eliot stood right behind the beast. He made no sound. His breathing was completely silent. He stared at the back of the wolf's head. Ken did not use a physical weapon. He did not summon his dark sword. He needed information, not destruction.
He effortlessly bypassed the creature's feral instincts. He reached out with his mind. He cast a high-level, instantaneous hypnosis spell. The magic was completely invisible. It did not glow. It did not spark. It just happened. The hypnosis pierced straight through the thick skull of the wolf. It drilled directly into the beast's mind. The wolf froze completely. Its body went totally rigid. The red glow in its eyes stopped flickering. It became a living statue. Ken closed his own eyes.
He synced his mind with the beast. Inside the wolf's mind, Ken found a connection. It looked like a glowing silver string. The string was a magical tether. It connected the summoned beast to its unseen master. The master was far away, hiding safely behind the advanced cloaking spell.
"Let us see who you are," Ken thought coldly. Ken followed the silver string. His mind traveled through the magical connection at the speed of light. He bypassed the cloaking barriers with absolute ease. The enemy's protections were strong, but they were nothing against the Sovereign. Ken's vision shifted. The dusty laboratory vanished. He saw a new room. It was a very lavish, very expensive office. The walls were lined with dark wood paneling. A large, ornate crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling.
A massive mahogany desk sat in the center of the room. A man stood behind the desk.
