"An apocalyptic weapon," Sayma stated grimly. She looked at the thousands of papers surrounding them.
"If someone built a device using these equations, the explosion would be massive. But the physical blast would not be the worst part. The explosion would release a toxic cloud of pure Solurius radiation. It would poison the air. It would rot the skin off millions of people. It would wipe out entire cities." Princess Iris stared at the chalkboard. The terrifying reality of the situation crashed down on her. Ken was absolutely right. The real culprits did not kill Mr. Carrion to steal a medicine.
They did not kill him for a longevity serum. They killed him to steal the blueprints for an apocalyptic weapon. They wanted to use his brilliant, terrible math to build a bomb that could destroy nations. Ken stayed quiet by the wall. He did not make a joke. He just slouched his shoulders and looked at the ground. He knew the truth. He knew exactly how dangerous this situation was becoming. But he also knew his team was smart enough to figure it out.
"They killed him for this," Princess Iris said softly. Her voice grew very firm. Her violet eyes burned with absolute, unyielding determination.
"They want to build this weapon. We cannot let that happen. We have to find them." The mystery had completely changed. The 13th Unit was no longer just solving a murder. They were standing in the middle of a massive, apocalyptic conspiracy. And they were the only ones who knew the truth.
Sayma put the chalk down. She wiped the white dust from her fingers. She stared at the terrifying math on the chalkboard. Princess Iris stood right beside her. The violet-eyed princess looked incredibly determined. They needed to find the culprits. They needed to stop this apocalyptic weapon. Ken leaned against the cold metal wall. He crossed his arms. He let out a loud yawn.
"Math is the real villain here," Ken complained.
"Can we just arrest the numbers? Numbers always cause problems." Naomi stood near him. She nudged his arm with her elbow. She gave him a small, amused smile. She treated him like a naughty friend.
"Be quiet, Ken," Naomi scolded gently.
"This is serious."
"I am very serious," Ken replied. He pulled a wrapped piece of candy from his pocket.
"I am seriously bored. We solved the puzzle. The bad guys want to build a giant bomb. Can we leave now? This secret room has zero airflow. I am sweating." Laxmi hopped off a wooden desk. She tossed a small orange flame between her hands.
"I agree with Ken. I hate reading. I want to go find the people who wrote this math. I want to punch them in the face." Zinia stretched her strong arms.
"We need to gather all these documents first. We cannot leave any evidence behind." This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work. Luna was fast asleep on a chair. She snored quietly. Ira stood near the stairs. Her pale face showed absolutely no emotion. She watched the dark tunnel. She kept a perfect lookout. Princess Iris turned to face her team.
"Zinia is right. We must pack everything. Sayma, grab the journals. Naomi, help me with these loose papers. We will take it all back to the estate." The elite girls went to work. They moved quickly. They stacked the papers. They gathered the notebooks. Ken just watched them. He popped the candy into his mouth. He chewed happily. He did not offer to carry a single piece of paper. He liked keeping his hands completely free. The secret underground laboratory was very quiet. The only sound was the rustling of paper.
Then, everything changed. A strange noise echoed from above. It sounded like a sharp crack. It came from the ceiling. Sayma stopped packing. She pushed her thick glasses up her nose. She looked up.
"Did you hear that?" The secret room was located deep underground. But it had a large, reinforced glass skylight set into the ceiling. The skylight connected to an old ventilation shaft. The glass was thick. It was designed to withstand massive explosions. Another crack echoed through the room. Ira stepped forward.
"Structural failure detected. The glass is breaking." Before anyone could move, the absolute silence was violently shattered. CRASH! The reinforced glass skylight exploded inward. It did not just crack. It completely blew apart. Millions of jagged glass shards rained down from the ceiling. The glass fell like a deadly, sparkling waterfall.
"Take cover!" Naomi shouted. Zinia slammed her hands onto the floor.
"Stone Canopy!" Thick slabs of solid rock shot out of the ground. The rocks formed a protective roof over Princess Iris and Sayma. The falling glass hit the rock shield. It made a loud, terrifying clattering sound. Ken did not wait for a shield. He screamed loudly. He threw his hands over his head. He dived straight under a large metal desk. He curled into a tight ball.
"Ahhhh! It is raining sharp things!" Ken yelled from under the desk.
"This is a terrible weather forecast! Protect my face! I need my face!" The glass finally stopped falling. The floor was covered in sharp, dangerous shards. But the glass was not the real problem. Dark shadows dropped through the broken skylight. They landed on the metal floorboards. They did not make a single sound when they landed. The dust slowly cleared. The 13th Unit looked at the new arrivals. They were wolves. But they were not normal wolves. They were massive. They were the size of small horses.
Their fur was completely snow-white. The white fur glowed with a strange, eerie light. Their eyes burned with a bright, toxic red color. Long, jagged fangs dripped with thick saliva. There was an entire pack of them. At least twenty glowing white wolves crouched in the laboratory. They surrounded the team perfectly. They bared their teeth. A low, vicious growl rumbled from their throats. Princess Iris gripped her silver rapier.
"Monsters? Down here?"
"They are not wild monsters," Sayma warned. She stayed safely behind Zinia's rock wall.
"Look at their magical signatures. They are summons. Someone cast a spell to bring them here." Laxmi grinned. Her eyes lit up with pure excitement. She cracked her knuckles. Bright orange fire burst to life around her hands.
"I do not care where they came from!" Laxmi cheered loudly.
"They picked the wrong room! I was just wishing for a fight! This is my lucky day!" A massive white wolf lunged directly at Laxmi. It opened its jaws wide. It aimed for her throat. Laxmi did not step back. She stepped forward. She pulled her right fist back. The flames roared wildly.
"Burn!" Laxmi shouted. She punched the wolf right in the face. A massive, blinding wave of orange fire exploded from her fist. The fire engulfed the glowing beast. The wolf let out a pained yelp. The sheer force of the fiery punch sent the massive monster flying backward. It crashed into a metal filing cabinet. The cabinet dented from the impact.
"One down!" Laxmi laughed.
"Who is next?"
