"Greetings, deacon!" Garrick respectfully saluted. The cloaked figure remained silent for a while, coldly looking at Garrick until he started sweating before finally speaking.
"Garrick, one of the Blood Transformation Ritual locations under your jurisdiction had been discovered and interrupted." The cloaked figure paused for a moment before continuing.
"Haven't you said that Mirevale and its surroundings are under your complete control? How was one of our core rituals discovered and interrupted at the last moment?" The cloaked figure asked slowly. His tone wasn't harsh or accusatory, but with each sentence he spoke, the air felt heavier. By the end, Garrick was drenched in sweat, his body trembling nervously.
"Th-this… Lord Deacon, it shouldn't be possible." Garrick nervously stuttered. He had taken multiple precautions. According to his plan, an unlucky adventurer party or a solo adventurer should have accepted that quest. They were supposed to arrive after the transformation, then get consumed by the newly transformed goblin warrior, thus completing the ritual. He had even taken extra precautions to ensure that powerful parties and solo adventurers wouldn't be available at the time.
He had also ensured that the guild wouldn't notice anything unusual about the goblin settlement in time. His plan should have been perfect.
"Do you think I'm joking with you?" The cloaked figure's voice deepened. Goosebumps crawled through Garrick's arms. He quickly waved his hands.
"Absolutely not! How dare I? It must have been an accident. I'm extremely ashamed! But rest assured, Lord Deacon. Such a mistake will never happen again!" Garrick hurriedly said, panic filling his voice. The cloaked figure coldly looked at Garrick.
"The plan is nearing its end. Don't make another mistake, otherwise…" The cloaked figure didn't continue. He snorted and interrupted the connection, causing the hologram to disappear. It was only after several moments that Garrick finally slumped back into his chair, heaving a sigh of relief. He was almost scared to death. He picked up the wine glass from the table and poured in some of his beloved vintage elven wine before downing it in one sip. Only then was he able to calm down.

"Dealing with the deacon is always so nerve-wracking," Garrick muttered as he looked out of the window blinds, his eyes a bit dazed. In Mirevale's underground world, he was always respectfully called "Boss Garrick" and "Gang Leader". All his underlings looked at him with admiration, respect, and even more fear. Few knew, however, that he was just a dog raised by the Baron, his black glove responsible for dealing with under-the-table issues.
He was once just a petty thug who was personally granted the opportunity to become the leader of the Mirevale underworld. He should have been grateful to the Baron. But… Garrick couldn't bring himself to feel grateful. In fact, he hated him. He absolutely abhorred the Baron. Why would a fat pig lord over him? Why does he have to always kneel to him? Garrick absolutely hated that. He wanted nothing more than to cut off the Baron's head and tear his fat body apart. Unfortunately, he couldn't.
Everything he currently has was given to him by the Baron. Garrick was also certain that many of his subordinates were the Baron's men. Though he was unwilling, Garrick was powerless. He couldn't fight against the Baron with just his power. That was when he encountered the deacon of the Old Imperial Cult. He didn't hesitate for even a second to defect to him, helping him complete bloody rituals inside and outside Mirevale.
He provided false information to both the Baron and the guild while shielding the movements of the goblins and the goblin lord as much as possible. All in the hope of receiving a reward from the deacon and reaching rank 2. Thus breaking from the control of the Baron. He absolutely couldn't allow another mistake. Garrick's expression slowly turned hideous, anger burning through his eyes.
"Nick! Come here!" Garrick roared at the door. The door was quickly opened from the outside, and in came Nick. He hurriedly walked towards Garrick and respectfully bowed to him.
"What's the matter, Boss Garrick?" Nick bowed slightly and asked, his voice tinged with a hint of caution.
"I need you to investigate something for me." Garrick walked towards a desk in the corner and picked up a piece of parchment from it.
"Check who has taken this quest and their current status." Garrick smacked the piece of parchment on the desk before sitting down and slowly sipping his wine. He glanced out of the window, his eyes narrowing. He wouldn't make another mistake. ……… Mirevale town. Not long after dawn. Sunlight gradually illuminated the streets. In the Hearth & Horn inn. Kyle was slowly getting dressed up. Tomorrow was the day he would set off with Doyle's party for Velkaris.
He had already prepared most of the supplies needed for the journey. He needed to buy just one last thing. He walked down the stairs and quickly ate breakfast before setting off. Kyle glanced at the increasing number of adventurers coming and going, then walked with purpose straight towards the commercial district. He finally stopped in front of an elegant two-story building. The Whisperleaf Curios.
Looking at the elegant yet luxurious store in front of him, Kyle took a deep breath before opening the door and entering. What came into his sight was an elegantly decorated store, with a long wooden desk at the corner and several crystal-clear display cabinets hanging on the walls, containing many magic items. However, what drew one's attention the most was the beautiful black-haired lady lazily leaning back on her chair, taking a deep puff from a smoking pipe, then gently exhaling it.
She casually lifted her head, her gaze falling on Kyle.
"Oh, it's you, little guy. Do you have enough money this time?" The black-haired lady said with a faint smile on her face.
"I have prepared the money this time, Miss Nerissa. Please give me the items I asked about last time." Kyle walked to the counter and said. Nerissa raised her eyebrow but didn't say anything further. She walked to the glass display to her right and picked up two objects. A silver necklace and a bronze-colored ring.
