"Roar!" The abomination roared as it struck Doyle's shield. Its immense power left a small dent in it and pushed him back several meters away. Doyle gritted his teeth as he struggled to stay on his feet. His arm bruised and swelled at a speed visible to the naked eye. His bones had likely been cracked.
"Wind bullet!" In the next instant, a football-sized wind sphere struck the monster's lower body, mangling its flesh and causing it to step back.
"Roar!" The abomination howled in agony, its bloodshot eyes locked on Aaron as it took one step after the other towards him. Kyle suddenly appeared behind the monster, his sword slicing into its tendons, then promptly disappearing before its arm could reach him.
"Use healing potions, Mr. Doyle. I'll distract it for a while." Kyle shouted as he constantly struck the monster before running away, driving it in circles, madly roaring.
"Fine! I need just 20 seconds." Doyle shouted as he downed half a healing potion before sprinkling the rest on his wounds. Kyle continued darting around the abomination, striking whenever openings appeared. Aaron occasionally assisted on the side, interfering with his spells when the situation called for it. Unfortunately, as an apprentice mage, he could only use cantrips and 1st-circle spells through over-rank casting. However, they weren't very effective.
Kyle dodged an arm swipe and jumped away, barely dodging the monster's strike. There were a few close calls. The abomination's arms were sometimes just a few centimeters away from touching him. His face was dripping sweat, his legs aching. However, he didn't dare let his focus waver for even a second.
'This monster is sharp! Although it isn't very agile, its reaction speed is getting faster and faster!' Kyle thought as he slashed his sword towards the abomination's leg. However, he was forced to pull back just as his sword scratched its muscles. His pupils shrank as he watched the monster's giant arm getting closer from the corner of his eye. [Phantom Step] He disappeared from his place, reappearing a few dozen meters away.
"Ha- Ha- Ha–" Kyle panted, sweat dripping from every part of his body, especially his legs. They were a bit swollen.
"BOOM!" He watched as the abomination's giant arm passed through his afterimage and landed on the ground, creating a massive crater, several meters wide and nearly a meter deep. Cracks extended from it, gradually filling the cave. Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.
"If I get hit by that, it's game over…" He muttered, feeling a chill running down his spine.
'What the heck is that thing anyway? I came here to rescue people and fight goblins, not the Hulk!' Kyle roared internally. He was a bit speechless at the absurdity of the situation. The abomination grinned, showing its blood-soaked teeth. It walked step by step towards him, each step shaking the cave.
'It's fucking taunting me! And hasn't it gotten more clear-headed?' Kyle had noticed that the monster had stopped roaring in agony. Its body was still occasionally squirming, but that chilling, agony-filled howl had disappeared at some point.
'Is it adapting, or has the mutation reached its breaking point? Hopefully, it's not becoming more stable.' Kyle prayed internally. The situation would get completely out of hand if the mutation stabilized. Just as the abomination started sprinting…
"Lightning bolt!!" Aaron screamed as a large cyan bolt struck the monster, stopping it in its tracks.
"Ha!" Before it could recover, Doyle came crashing. Using the momentum of his charge, he slammed his shield into its malformed side before following up with a sword slash. Luke suddenly appeared on the other side. He tapped the ground with his toes, jumping on its shoulders and stabbing its eyes with his daggers.
"Aaahh!!!" The abomination howled in agony. It flailed its arms and body around, trying to throw away Luke, but the latter had already jumped away, disappearing back into the shadows.
"Are you okay?" Tina ran towards Kyle and placed her palms over his legs.
"Heal." She muttered gently. Warm golden light suddenly appeared from her palms, gradually soothing his pain and causing the swelling to go down.
"Thank you." Kyle thanked her, still keeping his eyes on the goblin warrior abomination. He watched as Doyle coordinated with Luke and Aaron to pressure the goblin abomination from all sides, constantly striking it and retreating, but never fully confronting it. Most importantly, whenever its eyes were on the verge of healing, Luke struck from the shadows to blind them again. All of the abomination's attempts to stop him were futile.
'He's much more agile than me, but he's slower.' Kyle thought as he looked at Luke constantly shuttling around the monster. As the battle continued on, he noticed that the abomination's healing speed was slowly decreasing. At the same time, more and more tumors formed on the surface of its body, oozing pus as they popped.
'It's nearing its limits.' His eyes narrowed. Kyle stood up.
'It's time to finish this.' Nodding at Tina, Kyle burst towards the abomination, joining the battle and inflicting more and more wounds on it.
"Aaaahh!!" The abomination covered its face and howled in agony. The rate at which it was getting injured was greater than its healing speed. Finally, it stopped moving. Its muscles squirmed like pythons, causing it to swell further and further.
"It's about to burst," Doyle said with a look of certainty on his face. The abomination suddenly raised its head, its blood-red eyes filled with hatred and malice. Its gaze swept across Luke, Kyle, and Aaron before stopping on Doyle. Kyle's instincts were screaming. His eyes widened as he warned.
"Be careful, Doyle–""Roar!!" His cry was interrupted by the abomination's final howl as it swung its giant arm, over 5 meters long and as thick as a pillar, at Doyle, the closest and slowest target.
"Dang!" The giant arm collided with Doyle's shield, bending it and shattering the arm that was holding it. The shield was further pushed into his body, crushing his armor and ribs before sending him flying towards the walls.
"Boom!!" Doyle's body collided with the wall, creating a massive crater and shaking the entire cave. His eyes bulged as blood sprayed out of his mouth along with fragments of internal organs. The cave fell silent as the rest of the party watched in horror as Doyle's body slid out from the walls like a broken toy. The abomination mustered one last grin before its body collapsed on the floor, breaking into pieces, blood, organs, and unknown fluids splattering across the floor. A few seconds later…""" Captain/Mr.
Doyle!!""" They quickly rushed towards him, scrambling to pull out their healing potions before pouring them on his wounds and helping him drink them. Tina rushed towards him and cast [Heal] on him repeatedly. When her mana ran out, she pulled out mana potions and drank them before using [Heal] again.
