On the official road outside Mirevale, many adventurers were coming and going. Large and small parties alike filled the road, with the occasional solo adventurers passing by. Kyle felt that the number of adventurers coming and going had nearly tripled. He even noticed a few exceptionally well-equipped individuals with copper or even silver adventurer tags hanging on their necks, their expressions oozing with confidence, a sight rarely seen before. Many adventurers rode their horses towards their destination.
A few parties even rode a carriage out. Kyle silently watched all of this before walking away. He deliberated for a moment whether he should also take a mode of transport before deciding that it wasn't worth it.
'It's too expensive, and the quests I take aren't too far away. Besides, I don't know how to ride a horse.' He shook his head, putting away this thought. Walking along the official road, Kyle shielded his eyes from the sunlight.
"Tch! I need to buy a hat in the future. Fortunately, due to the existence of mana, my resistance to heat and cold has been enhanced." Kyle muttered, glancing at his relatively smooth skin. After crossing a distance of roughly 10 kilometers, a distant village appeared in his vision. It was a small village with fewer than 100 households, encompassed by a small dilapidated wooden wall. The village had just one long dirt street, with wooden houses on either side.
It was a small pastoral village with good scenery but also an unpleasant smell.
'Ugh! The smell.' Kyle covered his nose as he glanced at the waste and livestock droppings scattered on the road. This village was much more unhygienic than the one Kyle lived in in the past. Looking around for a bit, he spotted a sturdy middle-aged man near the entrance of the village.
"Hi, is this Khan village?" Kyle walked up to the man and asked. The sturdy middle-aged man looked at Kyle up and down, his eyes narrowing as he replied,"Yeah. This is Khan Village. Who are you, and what are you doing here?" The burly man asked, his tone a bit unfriendly.
"I'm an adventurer from Mirevale, here to complete the commission of exterminating the goblin settlement you reported." Kyle didn't care about his tone and calmly explained.
"Exterminating the goblin settlement? You?" The man asked with a look of astonishment. Before Kyle could reply, he continued,"Whatever, it wasn't me who commissioned the guild anyway. The village chief's house is that way." He pointed at the other end of the street and said.
"It's the only three-story house along this path." He concluded before walking away, disinclined to continue talking to Kyle. Kyle scowled at the back of the burly man for a moment, a bit annoyed, then walked along the path he pointed.
'The people of this village are so rude.' As he walked through the first path, Kyle felt many people's eyes fall on him. The moment he raised his head, he noticed some kids ducking behind the window, hiding away. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. Kyle shook his head and continued walking forward. He soon reached the house that the burly man pointed to. Kyle noticed four pristine horses tied next to the village chief's house.
Raising his eyebrow, he walked to the door and knocked. A few moments later, followed by the sound of footsteps, the door opened, and a middle-aged man stuck out his head.
"Who are you looking for?" The man asked.
"Good morning, I'm the adventurer who accepted the quest to exterminate the goblin settlement." Kyle greeted and said,"This…" The man hesitated for a moment before turning back and shouting, "Dad! The adventurer from Mirevale has arrived!" After a few seconds of silence, an old, creaky voice sounded,"Bring him here."
"Young man, follow me." The middle-aged man waved for Kyle to enter before closing the door behind him. They soon reached an open room, where a group of people was sitting around a wooden table. On one side was an old, rickety man; a very muscular bald man with a shield and a sword lying next to him; and a thin, dark-haired young man dressed in leather armor, with daggers hanging on his waist.
On the other side sat a beautiful blue-haired girl wearing a pristine white robe threaded with gold and a blond young man wearing a silver-tinged dark robe with an arrogant expression on his face. The latter two were holding a staff. Their equipment was shiny, and their clothes were luxurious, indicating their wealth. Kyle glanced at the adventurer's tag hanging on their neck. The blue-haired girl and the blond youth had an iron tag, but the thin youth and the muscular man had copper tags.
The scene fell into an eerie silence the moment Kyle entered. It was the old man who broke the silence.
"Cough, cough. Young man, you're the one sent by the Mirevale adventure guild to deal with the gobli—""Heh!" The blond youth sneered.
"A small place is a small place. They can't even find a decent adventurer to deal with a goblin settlement." The blond youth said with a mocking smile on his face, interrupting the old man.
"Aaron… don't be rude." The blue-haired girl pulled the cuffs of the blond youth and said.
"Am I wrong? They sent a single iron-class adventurer to exterminate a goblin settlement that probably has at least 2 mutated individuals." The blond youth disdainfully said. Kyle frowned. This was the first time he encountered such an unpleasant person. However, he noted an unusual piece of information from his speech.
'Two mutants? The quest didn't mention this, and a settlement with 20 to 30 goblins shouldn't have 2 mutants.' After pondering for a moment, Kyle scanned the team before looking at the muscular bald man; he seemed to be the leader.
"So, who are you?" Kyle calmly asked.
"Heh, why should we—""Stop it, Aaron." The bald man suddenly interrupted.
"We are the Stormwind party, from Velkaris City. We accepted the quest to support Mirevale town. While passing by this village, we received a request for help from them. Goblins have kidnapped several young girls from this village, and the village chief was just about to send someone to guide us to the goblin settlement." The bald man looked Kyle in the eyes and explained. Pausing for a moment, he sighed upon noticing Kyle's furrowed brows.
"I know that this is against the guild's unspoken rules and that we shouldn't interfere with your quest, but the situation is urgent. If we don't quickly take action, it will be too late. Moreover, according to the village chief's statements, the situation of that goblin settlement has changed. Not only had their numbers greatly increased, but traces of a goblin shaman had also appeared." The room fell silent again. Kyle's brows slowly relaxed upon hearing this.
At least, it seemed that they aren't completely unreasonable after all. He pondered for a moment, deliberating on his next course of action now that the situation had changed.
"Why are you explaining things to him, Mr. Doyle? He's just an iron-class apprentice warrior from a remote place. We are, in fact, saving his life by taking on this quest. He should bow in gratitude to us, then go back to where he came from." Aaron said with a dissatisfied look on his face.
"Besides, a solo Iron-class warrior shouldn't even be taking this quest in the first place. It seems the adventure guild in this place is quite incompetent." Aaron leaned back in his chair, his face filled with disdain.
"Shut up, Aaron. This young man isn't as simple as he looks." Doyle rebuked the blond youth before turning back to Kyle.
"You're a rank 1 professional, young man," Doyle said with a look of certainty. His gaze drifted to the iron tag hanging on Kyle's neck.
"This quest should be one of your three E-rank promotion quests, right? In that case, how about we do this? We'll accompany you to kill the goblins and complete your quest. The reward doesn't matter; the important thing is to rescue the young girls." Doyle calmly said, a look of wisdom flashing through his eyes.
