With the collapse of the three ritual nodes in Mirevale, the red barrier covering the town and extending several kilometers outside slowly dissolved. Tens of thousands of people across Mirevale cheered as the ritual collapsed. …. At the church of the goddess of light, the priests were frantically moving around, tending to injured adventurers, guards, and civilians. Hundreds of people were laid on simple platforms inside the church, groaning in pain, waiting for the priests to heal them.
Kyle sat on a simple wooden stool at the corner, waiting for his turn. The priests were currently focused on the critically or seriously injured; it would take a while before his turn. He watched as the priests darted between the injured patients like an overwhelmed ER during flu season, his expression relaxed.
'It seems that the priests of the church of the goddess of light aren't complete money grubbers. At least they're willing to treat people free of charge during disasters.' Kyle thought absentmindedly, A blue-haired figure moving along with the priests caught his attention.
"Tina…" Kyle was surprised. However, an explosion resounding through the town interrupted his thoughts. A buzz sounded through Mirevale. Kyle curiously raised his head and looked up, just in time to see the barrier collapsing. A surprised expression appeared on his face, followed by a faint smile.
"They aren't so incompetent after all." He muttered under his breath. ….
"She did it." Richard looked at the clear sky ahead with a faint smile on his face. The red dots filling the sky gradually dissipated with the destruction of the ritual, leaving behind a clear sky. The sun was slowly setting. Less than an hour remained until dusk. The ogre lord was also looking at the sky, his expression twisted with fury. Although he had already completed his evolution, the ritual was still slowly raising his strength.
If it continued, it wouldn't be impossible for him to reach the top of rank 3, becoming one of the strongest beings in this kingdom and even the entire continent. However, all of that vanished with the destruction of the ritual.
"You caused me to lose decades of effort…" His eyes turned blindingly red. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
"I'll kill you!" The ogre lord roared, his voice erupting like a shockwave that rolled across the battlefield. Richard and Kaelen were forced to cover their faces with their arms; their clothes fluttered by the wind. Looking at the furious behemoth ahead, Richard wasn't flustered.
"Hey, big guy. I admit that we aren't a match for you, but…" Richard paused. He turned his focus to the dozen silver-grade adventurers scattered across the battlefield, finally pausing on a blond middle-aged man, standing over the corpse of a rank 1 giant goblin, his sword still dripping blood.
"Master Cassian. It seems that they won't appear this time. This is probably the biggest fish we'll get." Richard said to the middle-aged blond man. Instantly, everyone on the battlefield focused their gaze on him. Kaelen scrutinized the blond man, looking a bit puzzled. When he had been overlooking the battlefield before, he had indeed seen this man fighting, but he appeared to be nothing more than an average rank 1 peak swordsman, just an average silver-rank adventurer. He didn't display any outstanding quality.
The blond man gently sheathed his sword. In the next second, he instantly appeared between Kaelen and Richard, confronting the ogre lord.
"What…" Kaelen's pupils shook. He stiffly turned his head to look at the man beside him. He couldn't see how he moved at all. Just like the regular guards and knights, this man's speed was beyond his vision. If he wanted to kill him, he wouldn't be able to react at all. … Cassian stood on the town's wall, confronting the ogre lord a hundred meters away. He was a stout middle-aged man no less than 1. 9 meters tall, tiny compared to the towering 7-meter-tall ogre lord, yet his aura was no less.
His expression was relaxed. He was wearing only conventional armor and holding a non-enchanted fine-class sword. His equipment was extremely shabby compared to Kaelen, whose every piece of equipment was no less than extraordinary. Even so, his presence was beyond any other being on the battlefield. He completely transformed from a mediocre silver-class adventurer into a powerhouse in the blink of an eye. It wasn't a surface-level transformation, as his appearance didn't change.
It was his presence, as if he had stopped hiding. A few minutes ago, he was like a passerby, fading into the corner of everyone's subconscious, but now, no one could look away.
"Master Cassian, no important cult character is going to appear this time. This is very likely just a test of theirs." Richard reiterated.
"Hmm. No matter. At least, we learned about their plans. Tell Selene to document her knowledge about this ritual. I'll take it with me." Cassian calmly said, his eyes fixed on the ogre lord not far away. Kaelen's ears twitched, listening to their conversation. He hesitated for a moment before asking.
"Hey, Richard, can you introduce me to this master?" Richard glanced at Cassian before nodding.
"He's the vice-director of the Kingdom's Bureau of Investigation. The Light Sword Master," Richard solemnly introduced. Kaelen was shocked. However, not just by the identity of the blond man. He was even more shocked by Richard's deep understanding of the cult's actions and the fact that he had implemented a fishing plan. He wasn't told anything about this! Kaelen wanted to open his mouth and question the two of them.
If a rank 3 master took action before, there wouldn't have been nearly so many casualties, and the ogre lord wouldn't have completed his evolution. However, Kaelen found that he couldn't speak at all. He looked at the imposing man in front of him and couldn't find the courage to question him. In the end, he could only lower his head and take a few steps back. Suppressing his anger, Kaelen tried to rationalize their actions. Maybe the fishing plan was necessary? He didn't know much about cults after all.
Cassian casually took a glance at Kaelen before shifting his attention to the ogre lord.
"It's been a while since I've seen a big oaf like you. Cutting into your thick flesh is going to feel incredible." Cassian said with a faint smile on his face. The ogre lord didn't respond. For the first time, a cautious expression appeared on his face.
