The stone dagger in Sobelle's hand broke because she no longer limited her strength. This only frustrated her and she threw what remained of the weapon at the horde, killing at least 5 Goblins with the scattered projectile.
"AGH!" Sobelle grabbed a Goblin's head and pulled it off the body, which she then used as a projectile that left a bruise on another Goblin's face. She punched one to the point that it got knocked out and then grabbed it by the arm and started swinging it wildly. Such an act of extreme brutality would have deterred most creatures, especially after they see that it was their very own species this was being done to. But to Goblins?
Seeing the dead bodies of their kin further encouraged them, as they believed that it meant less competition. Not a single greenskin left Sobelle's vicinity, instead, they circled her and searched for an opening. Whenever Sobelle would swing in one direction, the Goblins opposite of that would move into her Blindspot and try to hit her. This failed most of the time, and resulted in their deaths, but sometimes? They succeeded.
Sobelle ran backward and slammed the Goblin who managed to jump on her back against a wall. Instead of being shaken off, the damned thing pulled on her hair and used that to keep itself steady. Sobelle screamed in pain when it bit her shoulder, she didn't think she got wounded, but did she want to risk something like that? Of course not. Especially when it was still biting her and didn't let go. She slammed the Goblin again and again, until the greenskin finally loosened its jaw and fell off her.
The underside of Sobelle's foot was there to crush it once it hit the floor. After that was a slaughter that ended in the greenskins being easily wiped out. Even as the greenskins who strayed from the main group to intercept Sobelle did not provide much help when they finally came around, as by that point, most of the greenskins that made up the majority of the horde had been killed by Sobelle. With a few more thoughtless kicks and punches that caused bones to break, Sobelle finally killed the entire horde.
She finally got some much needed rest, fighting such a large group with all her strength had pushed her to her limits and not only was she exhausted, she also gathered several dozen wounds across her body.
'It hurts...' Sobelle winced as she lifted her shirt only to find several scratch marks. Her back was full of them too, the Goblins ripped her shirt when they clung to her and the resulting scuffle only made things worse, as they constantly moved their feet to try and keep themselves from falling. This caused the nails of their feet to scratch her skin non-stop. Sobelle reached behind her and felt slick wetness on her skin. When she pulled her arm back, it was stained crimson from her own blood.
This was not going to be a good thing, wouldn't it? Hopefully the damage was only limited to her skin and not the deeper parts of her flesh. Her back met the wall and she breathed heavily while the corpses that piled around her began to cool. She pushed herself off and noted the squelching sound she made while doing so. Some of the dried blood had somehow found a way to cling to the wall... Well, not somehow, that was just how blood worked.
"I'm not thinking properly." Sobelle murmured. She realized it must be because of the lack of blood. Her father told her that happened sometimes, especially to soldiers and guards who lost limbs during battle.
'I'm going through delirium...' Her hands reached for the nape of her neck and wiped the blood off her skin, she pulled them back and winced. This was far too much blood for one person to lose in a short time, she wasn't sure if her skills did something to help her body cope with the blood loss but she felt that they did. Even then, she wasn't thinking properly and so she needed to leave and get tended to by Chael. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
She laughed and went back to leaning against the stone. She opened her system and looked at the series of blessings that had apparently helped her this entire time. She thought Chael didn't do anything, but it seemed that she actually did ask the spirits for help. [Aid of Protection: 2/39/21] [Gift of Will: 1/47/33] [Ritual of Strength: 6/23/54] [Ritual of Protection: 6/21/49] 4 different blessings, and at least two were from spirits. The remaining two were rituals, which, fair enough.
Chael must have thought that asking the spirits for more aid would have been bad, this was something Sobelle agreed with. Invoking the spirits for protection was one thing, and requesting them for several blessings was another. Her getting 2 blessings was more than enough, and Sobelle silently thanked the keepers of magic for their aid during her fight. Her legs almost gave out when she rose from the wall, it seemed that even standing straight was a difficult thing for her to do now.
Sobelle believed that if she were to get into another fight, then she'd only hurt herself. She wasn't even sure if she'd win, that was how weak she felt. Of course, this meant that something did come and not only did they arrive at the perfect opportunity, they were also an evolved greenskin caste. Sobelle couldn't quite focus on the newcomers, but she knew that one of them was a Pudge if she were to go by the thing's size. And the other?
Well the other carried a weapon, wore basic armor, and had a buckler on his right forearm. The Pudge was bad enough, but this one Goblin... Was it a Nogg? It meant it was smart.
'No, not a Nogg.' She'd only learned of them in passing, but the chief did warn her of another caste that was not only as smart as a Nogg but also far stronger. This one did not have the ability to command its fellow greenskins, but they did occasionally get into leadership positions whenever Noggs and Shamans weren't around.
Hob Goblins were far more muscular than the standard greenskin; the arms of this one were almost as thick as Sobelle's, and her height was the same as before Sobelle got the [Biological Hypertrophy] skill. She wielded her axe with the ease of someone who's used to doing so, at the same time, she showed no signs of being uncomfortable when wearing the buckler.
"Grrrrr..." The growl that came out of the Hob Goblin sounded almost like a challenge. She raised her axe and pointed it at Sobell, yet the one who responded wasn't her. She just kept her silence, while internally trying to think of a way out of this situation.
"Guwaaa?" Next to the Hob, the Pudge made a sound that was eerily similar to a dog's whine. She scratched her bulbous head, causing what remained of shoulder-length hair to fall out. Or at least some of it.
"Guwaaa?"
"Grrrr." The growl this time was short. And Sobelle felt as though she was about to die, so she moved. She jumped out of the way at the same time as the Pudge raised the fallen tree that she called a club. Moving before the Pudge even thought of swinging her club meant that Sobelle easily dodged the attack, however, this did not change the fact that she still had wounds all over her body. The gash on her head kept bleeding, and the myriads of scratches on her torn body did not disappear.
She stumbled forward and almost tripped from the lack of balance. Bile rose from Sobelle's stomach so suddenly that some of it slipped out her lips, she was taxing her body in ways that she never did before. Not even the training that she used to do was able to put this much stress on her person. Yet she did not stop. Because she knew that if she did, then she'd lose her life.
'Keep moving. I just need to keep moving—' Sobelle's thoughts were cut off when she crashed against the wall of a house arm-first. She wobbled as she pushed herself off the flat surface, and another wave of nausea descended upon her mind, it made her puke again. She fumbled her way to the door, her hands moved non-stop as she braced herself against the stacked stone. It was the only way she could support her weakened body, and Sobelle feared that this was a sign that she wouldn't be able to fight back.
"AHHHH—" A guttural scream tore through her throat when the Hob Goblin threw a spear that punctured her lower leg. She hissed and entered the house, then barred herself inside. Her breathing turned heavy as she fell to the nearest table. Her body felt cold, and she couldn't even feel her own skin. She shivered while stumbling deeper into the house, until finally, she got inside a room. With the remaining ounce of strength she had left, Sobelle closed the door and blockaded it using a chest.
She closed it and then ran to the opposite side of the room. She gulped, which did not help with quenching the dryness in her throat.
