The Number Crunching Peasant Saves the World [Grim Dark, Slow Burn] · Ayaise · 74 chương · ~17 phút đọc · Tạo 05/09/2026
Goblins were relentless, and they did not care for their lives when they were on the hunt. To them, dying was simply not part of their worries, if anything, they were scared of losing their prey rather than their lives. And this is especially true if they hunted women. Whether or not this was part of their nature was irrelevant, the only thing that mattered was that this way of thinking made Goblins dangerous. Pursuing their quarries relentlessly meant that their numbers would eventually wear their enemies down.
And in most cases, this tactic worked. It was against Sobelle that such a thing turned ineffective. As not only was she hard to exhaust thanks to the combination of [Inexhaustible Vessel] and [Biological Hypertrophy] which kept her body at top physical shape, she was also just simply far too strong for a horde as small as this one to be able to overwhelm. Sobelle, despite not knowing this, did not hesitate when she faced the first Goblin.
It jumped and in response, she pulled out her axe and after punching the greenskin mid air, proceeded to split the thing's head wide open. The stone weapon offered no resistance when she pulled it off the twitching corpse, as her boosted strength caused the sinuous flesh to give out from the force of her pull. Strips of meat still connected themselves to the axe's head, and a bit of brain matter was mixed with the blood that soaked the upper half of the weapon. Some even splashed on Sobelle's clothes.
While the greenskin did its last, involuntary twitch, Sobelle grabbed her dagger and held it in a reverse grip in her left hand. She positioned her thumb under her grip and other the back of the dagger's handle, this curled her hand into a fist that she could use to punch a greenskin should she be in a position where stabbing was impossible to do. Which shouldn't happen unless she made a mistake or if the greenskins were a lot more cunning than she expected.
And she was betting that the latter was true, given that she did not want to give even the slightest compromise to the greenskins. Her axe swung left and cleaved through the upper half of a Goblin's head cleanly. There was another one behind it so Sobelle took a step back, pulled her axe in that exact time frame and readied it for another strike, all while she raised her left hand so that her dagger was pointed directly at the position of another Goblin.
The Goblin who dared to run at her got its head cut by her axe while the other one, who jumped, was killed by its own momentum when Sobelle's dagger met it effortlessly. It got stabbed in the chest and Sobelle then leaned into the jump, she did not stand her ground and just let the force of the collision bleed out through her movements. She continued moving backward, which led her to repositioning herself in a way that she was ready for another wave of greenskins.
And these four would be her last fight before she ran away from the horde. A goblin dies when she stabbed it with her dagger, and the one behind it did not expect a kick to the head, nor did he think Sobelle would crush his face underfoot. Two dead, all in one movement. She raised her axe and buried the weapon on the head of another greenskin, this one stood on her left. Lastly, she pulled out her dagger and then plunged it into the eyes of the remaining Goblin.
Sobelle looked at the approaching horde in the distance, she counted around 30 of them in total. Which wasn't a lot, but it was still too much for her to handle all on her own. Not to mention, her guess could be wrong and that there might be more greenskins than she initially believed. It was safer to run away. She turned and fled to the outskirts of the village, and her pursuers did not relent. They followed after her, emboldened by the sight of their prey running away.
Choosing to weave past houses and use them as some form of barrier that prevents the greenskins from forming into one cohesive group was an obvious thing to do. Soon enough, the greenskins parted into three groups; one kept chasing after Sobelle in a straight line, and two took winding paths around the ruins that'd allow them to eventually intercept her. Utilizing the buildings and the environment as much as she could was also something that Sobelle did, because she knew it was only a matter of time before the Goblins caught up to her and whittled her down through sheer numbers. The horde chasing Sobelle was by far the biggest, and while it was dangerous to confront them, things would be even worse if Sobelle was to get caught by the intercepting greenskins. By then, she'd be swarmed in all directions and would be easily overwhelmed.
Sobelle turned back and stabbed the Goblin who had been miraculously keeping up with her. She pulled her dagger out in that very same moment and punched the greenskin behind it, then she hit the head of the Goblin next to that one. She took a step back and slashed at the group who flanked her, she aimed for the upper halves of their heads and intended to slice their brains. Eyes were lost and some of the surviving Goblins retreated because of the damage she did to them.
Sobelle quickly pulled her arm back and almost fell when she felt a sudden wave of resistance.
"Ugh!" The Goblin foolish enough to think of disarming her grunted as he pulled with all his might. He let out a chittering noise that attracted the nearby greenskins, who then either joined in on pulling the axe or inconvenienced Sobelle.
"Leg go!" She screamed when she noticed one of the Goblins had opened its mouth and was about to bite her. Maybe it was because her mind was running on a wave of panic mixed with a lot of stress, but Sobelle did not want to risk even the slightest chance of getting infected. The strength she had been holding back until now, the one that ensured she didn't break anything she touched, came rushing forward. Her effort was so great in fact that the axe's handle broke apart from the force of her grip.
The wood easily gave in to Sobelle's strength and then two things happened; the first was that the Goblins who had been tugging on the axe fell backwards in a heap of bodies, one of them got stabbed by the axe head. Second, Sobelle also fell in the opposite direction. The force of their struggle was so great that she practically got flung backwards. The greenskins which had been trying to bring her down with numbers fell alongside her and most of them crashed to the floor harshly.
There was one greenskin unfortunate enough to cling to Sobelle's back, he was crushed between her muscular shoulders and the stone walls. Blood seeped out of his nose and mouth as his crushed lungs desperately tried to keep itself functional, sucking in a vain attempt to live. This only resulted in the blood that now filled his ruptured throat to rise out of his mouth and into the floor. It did not take long for him to fall dead.
Sobelle shook her head then punched an approaching so hard that its head just caved in. The strike might as well be a hammerblow with how much damage she did with her naked fists. By this point, Sobelle had given up on fighting with weapons. She stabbed her dagger on the head of a Goblin and left it there while she proceeded to tear through the horde that surrounded her from all sides.
[Limit Break] allowed her to just use her natural strength to its utmost limit, and while exerting this much would usually rip through her muscles, the effects of [Biological Hypertrophy] easily bypassed this drawback and her muscles would only slightly tear from the effort instead of being ripped apart. Every time she moved her hand, a greenskin would die.
She'd punched and kicked and just did not bother to raise her guard at all, there was nothing in her mind but senseless slaughter and a part of her reveled in the ease in which she tore through the horde. It was freeing to finally let loose without thinking of the consequences. And this feeling only pushed Sobelle deeper into the violent high she felt. She had been so focused on it in fact that she did not notice when a Goblin came up from behind her.
The greenskin carried a rock, and had a riveting grin as it leapt and struck Sobelle on the back of the head. The rock did not break, and while Sobelle's skull did not crack open from the hit, it still fractured. Not to mention, the skin of her scalp was now bleeding, so damage was done to her. A pair of Goblins jumped on Sobelle's back while she reeled from the pain of getting her head bashed in; they tried to pin her down but it did not work.
Sobelle reached behind her, grabbed one of the greenskins on the head so hard that her fingers dug into its skull and then she slammed the damned thing on the Goblin responsible for hitting her head. The other Goblin experienced a quicker death, as Sobelle crushed its head with the force of her grip instead of using it as a weapon. She wiped the blood dripping down her neck and shook her head to clear it. Her vision was turning hazy and she was partially exhausted, but she could still fight.
