Being the weapons of Gods must truly be envious to everyone else. Sobelle was not being arrogant as she thought of this, because that was the truth. It was hard to accept for some people, but that was just how things worked. Everyone in the village hated her, and Sobelle was confused as to the reason why until now. They couldn't accept that she did things while they remained where they were.
She constantly grew and improved while they remained stagnant, helpless to fate while Sobelle was guided by beings who did not follow such laws. It must hurt to know that someone like her would eventually rise above them.
'Well it's too bad if they can't accept it. I'm gonna keep following the Gods' orders and grow my system until I get strong enough to become a mercenary, and eventually? A knight.' She'd make a name for herself and it would be so widespread that everyone in the village would hear of her tales even when she was far away. Everyone would know then, that she was someone who was too big for their village and that she did not, in fact, care about their hatred towards her. And she didn't. Of course not.
This may have been just Sobelle's imagination, but the forest was strangely silent. The birds were actively chirping and she could see arboreal rodents scurrying up on the tree tops but there was an active void when it came to the presence of Goblins. It was like they had chosen to hide from her now that she was armed and ready to kill them. Were they afraid of her? Sobelle wouldn't blame them if they were. She carried a spear as well as two other weapons.
And while she wasn't good at using any of them, she knew that she would not have an issue when it came to fighting a bunch of greenskins. Her feet eventually carried her to the areas where she commonly laid her trap. Here, she had constantly emptied her bladder as well as her gut. Goblins were attracted to the scent of anything related to females, but this was especially true when it came to urine. It was like a drug to them, and they'd be able to recognize the scent from far away.
There should be Goblins around here then, right? Sobelle patrolled this particular area until she heard sounds that only Goblins could make. She ducked low and hid within the shrubbery and followed the noise. Greenskins were rarely silent, and everything they did always involved their loud voices. It was like they felt the need to announce themselves to the world, which wasn't that far off of a guess really.
Sobelle wouldn't be shocked to learn that greenskins were arrogant enough to think that people ran when they heard their voices. Right now, the chittering was still far. However, it got louder with every step that Sobelle took so she knew that she was going in the right direction. And sure enough, this proved to be right: the greenskins were gathered around a poor boar, they used the animal to satiate their endless well of lust and were eagerly doing so.
The male hog tried to resist but it got hit in the eye every time it struggled. Sobelle counted the greenskins. There were exactly 7 of them.
'A larger scouting party means a bigger tribe.' Sobelle remembered the warnings the chief gave her and gritted her teeth. So they really were increasing in number every day, weren't they? And she had to kill at least 24 or possibly more than that if she were to count the birth of a hypothetical number of female goblins. She needed to kill every single greenskin in front of her, and she'd have no other option but to do so.
If she misses even a single one, the tribe will start acting restless and possibly attack the village sooner than intended. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it. With the guiding words of her father repeating in her head, Sobelle carefully watched the Goblins' positions and made a plan on how she would efficiently bring them all down.
There were two along the head, another was on the back of the boar, and the other four surrounded the creature while playing with themselves. Most of them had their backs turned to her, and there were around three who directly turned away from her. Sobelle could rush out and kill them instantly, which lowered the goblin count down to 4.
'Stab the one on the right, hit the other on the left with my buckler hard enough to cripple, pull my spear back and then stab again. After that, run away.' This was her plan to take down the goblins. And she repeated internally until her vision focused on the greenskins' backs and her mind forgot all her other senses and solely processed the upcoming fight. [Flow State] activated and Sobelle initiated her surprise attack.
The unsuspecting goblins did not react in time and she swiftly killed the three greenskins she intended to bring down first. She pulled her right arm and stabbed the back of the right goblin with the maximum distance of her spear. Her left hand moved to bash the left goblin on the head while she pulled the weapon's blade from her first kill. Her spear was free and ready to stab by the time the sharp edge of her buckler cracked a Goblins' skull and pierced into its brain.
She did not need to pull the shield back manually, instead, she used the momentum from jumping backwards to do it. At the same time, she stabbed with her spear. The goblin in the middle died from its chest being punctured just as the remaining greenskins reacted to her attack. It was already too late by then, and Sobelle had positioned herself in an advantage. The greenskin at the back of the boar jumped over the struggling animal and rushed to Sobelle.
Its lust took over its mind and with how frustrated it was with just merely watching, the Goblin would do anything to get its hands on her. A spear went straight through its skull and out the other end. It fell dead and its lolling tongue stopped lashing. Saliva dripped downward and soaked the soil. It was a prelude to the Goblin's fall and the closest thing it would get to a funeral. The goblin watching by the head of the boar swiftly followed its kin. And by that, to the afterlife.
It died from Sobelle's buckler striking its face and dislocating its jaw. The other two let go of the boar and that was the last mistake they would ever make in their lives. Boars were known to be fierce, so fierce in fact that specialized spears were designed just to stop them from charging down the handle and stabbing the hunter with their tusks.
A frustrated boar was not something to be trifled with, and unfortunately for the goblin who used its mouth, it was the perfect target for the animal to vent its frustrations to. Sobelle made quick work of the other goblin with her spear then watched as the one that remained alive wished that he wasn't. Tusks sharp enough to pierce his skin and lacerate his organs stabbed at the Goblin every time the boar thrashed its head.
The Goblin tried to grab the animal's mane in a futile attempt to pull its head away from his gut but the boar didn't budge at all. It was simply too strong for the greenskin. The goblin cried for help as its stomach opened up and blood rushed out in waves. No one came to help it and the forest remained empty of more bodies for the boar to kill. Sobelle looked away once the goblins' guts spilled all over the boar's face.
While she enjoyed goring Goblins and didn't mind hurting them, the scene had turned far too gruesome for her liking. Instead, she focused on resting. She pressed the head of her spear on the ground and used it as a crutch while she leaned over and breathed heavily. The chief said that this was a problem that frequently appeared whenever goblins were involved. But it was even worse for her thanks to [Limit Break]. She had fought a single group of goblins perfectly, and in exchange?
She emptied her stamina and would need to rest. It took a lot from her body to move so efficiently, and not even [Inexhaustible Vessel] was enough to prevent the fatigue that followed such heavy movements. At her best, she was a reaper who sowed and harvested death effortlessly. If it weren't so taxing on her body, Sobelle would have just entered the goblin camp and started killing anything her eyes landed on.
'Who am I kidding? I'm not a God. Even if I'm inexhaustible, I wouldn't be able to fight an entire army of goblins all on my own.' It was a known fact that goblins used their numbers to beat their enemies, and that those who charged their armies head on was stupid and suicidal. There was no winning against an army alone.
'Ambushing them and slowly dwindling their numbers is the only thing that works.' Sobelle stood up. She heaved. The chief really was wise.
