Chương 166: Chapter 149. Emily's First Day

Emily Metis's Point Of View I woke up while the sun had begun to rise. Today was to be the first day of my new job as a Secretary to Lord Matthew. I wanted to be early. I was given a key to the mansion home that Lord Matthew and his wives lived in. The office where I would be working was on the 2nd floor of the home. I made myself a quick breakfast of a salad and an egg sandwich. I had to fight my desire to have a scoop of ice cream for dessert, but I was able to resist the urge and made it out of my door.

The addictive quality of ice cream is something I, and many of the other women in Paradise find disturbing. It all started with Lord Matthew commenting on Mr. Jim's 2nd helping of ice cream at the lunch where he debuted the ice cream. As Mr. Jim placed the 2nd spoonful in his mouth, Lord Matthew spoke to him with concern." Just a head's up, Jim. Too much of it will make you fat. It's a dessert after all. I know it doesn't always feel like it, but there are a lot of calories in it."

At his words, all of the women in ear shot had alarm bells ringing in their minds, except for Ruby. I assumed at first, that it was because she's the most physically active of the women. However, it seems she simply was too absorbed in the dish to hear Lord Matthew's words. When I informed her about the consequences, she had a very different reaction." Ms. Janet guided me to the office without much fanfare.

The Maids and Butlers of the mansion were hard at work cleaning the mansion before Lord Matthew, Lady Sarah and Lady Anna woke up properly to start the day. I must say as well, as someone who has seen Promethian Butlers and Maids in action, the Staff's movements here in Paradise could go toe to toe with any of the High-Ranking Noble Servants that visited Atheis for purchasing and selling products. My best guess is that Lord Matthew has 2 main reasons why he wants to bring milk and dairy products to Paradise. the 1st is that, as you know, even just the ice cream is addictive.

The Men, Women and Children of Paradise are already obsessed with it. From what I understand, cheese and many other products are just as much so. With that factor, milk and its derived products will not just bring money and affluence to Paradise, but it could honestly cause this Town's Income to become a force that could rival a nation's full income."" It's scary how I can see it happening too."" Yes indeed. Now the 2nd reason is connected to Lord Matthew's comfort and it's fairly simple.

He wants to have a taste of home with him here in Gaia. As you know, he isn't from here. He's a Human, as you know. He lost more than just friends and family when he came here. I'm sure even just having ice cream is a comfort to him. So, the more items he can have that brings him the comfort of his first home, the better he would feel about being here." I nodded to her words. It's understandable. I've noticed how much I've missed the people who've left us here in Paradise.

I also wish there was some way to know that they were safer. But in the end, all I can do is pray to the Gods that they finish the journey safely."
