Homelander and Stormfront sat inside the Congressional hearing room. Vought's other members sat with their lawyers. Vought had arranged their legal team around them before the hearing began. They were waiting for the witness who had been called to testify against Vought. The witness was expected to speak about the company and its experiments. Victoria Neuman was also present.

The older woman connected to the arrangement remained in custody, while Victoria stayed with the people who had brought the witness before the hearing. She was there because the proceedings had been arranged to expose Vought. One of the lawyers looked toward the entrance.

"Our witness is here," one of the lawyers announced. Everyone near the entrance turned toward the doors. The doors opened, and Jonah Vogelbaum entered in his automatic wheelchair. He moved forward until he reached the place prepared for him. Homelander turned to look at him. The moment he recognized the doctor, his expression changed. He had not expected Vogelbaum to be the witness. The doctor had been a father figure in his life, even though Homelander never accepted him as his father.

Vogelbaum had been the person who watched him grow inside the laboratory. Homelander had wanted that man's approval since he was a child. Since childhood, Homelander had done many things because he wanted Vogelbaum to be happy with him. He wanted the doctor to see his accomplishments and feel proud of what he had created. Every time Homelander had shown his strength, part of him had still been waiting for Vogelbaum's approval. Now Vogelbaum was standing before him as a witness against Vought.

Homelander kept looking at him, unable to understand why the doctor had chosen to testify against them. He could not connect the doctor he remembered with the witness sitting before the hearing. Victoria attacked. Vogelbaum's head split open from the middle. His body remained in the wheelchair as the hearing room reacted to what had happened. The people sitting near him began screaming. The lawyers and the other people tried to move away, but the attack continued around them. Panic spread through the room as everyone searched for a way to escape. Only a few greenish lights reached the room, and Starlight could not absorb enough electricity from them to use her powers and escape. The light did not give her enough energy to escape. Outside Vought's building, Adam flew down and landed. Cracks spread through the ground around his feet. The soldiers guarding the entrance stared at him in shock. They had been protecting the building, but none of them had expected Adam to arrive like this. Adam walked forward through the cracks in the ground.

The soldiers raised their guns. A moment later, they opened fire. The bullets struck Adam in the chest and the mouth. They fell away after hitting him. He did not even flinch. Adam's eyes began glowing red. Three or four soldiers stood near the entrance. Two of them continued firing at Adam while the soldiers behind them called for backup. Inside the Vought tower, Edgar saw what was happening. The attack had already reached the entrance, and Adam was moving through the guards.

Edgar immediately contacted the Supes in the building.

"Get out there and stop Adam," he ordered. Shockwave received the message first. Black Noir and Maeve received it as well, along with the other Supes. They understood that Adam had entered Vought and began moving toward the exit to stop him. Adam kept his laser vision active. The soldiers in front of him still refused to stop. The laser fired in a horizontal line. It struck the first soldier, and Adam turned his head while the beam continued moving across the entrance.

The line passed through the other soldiers as well. Their bodies burned and fell dead on the ground. The entrance was cut through the middle at the same time, leaving the doorway broken apart. Adam immediately walked inside. People outside had been frightened by what they saw, but some of them took out their phones and began recording him. They kept their distance while their cameras followed Adam's movements. Adam placed one foot forward. Then he vanished from his position.

The people inside Vought only heard a massive impact against the damaged entrance. Adam had reached the remaining sections of the doorway and punched them inward. The rest of the entrance collapsed inside the building. The sound spread through the lower part of the tower, and more security guards began rushing toward him. Adam thought that he had wanted to do this much later, but he would have to change his plan. He turned his laser vision on again.

He kept switching it on and off while firing at every soldier who came in front of him. Each burst reached the next guard before that guard could get close to Adam. Then Adam felt something moving through the air. A powerful wave was rushing toward him. It felt as if something was cutting through the air at extreme speed. Adam sensed the attack before he could see the person behind it. Adam understood what was coming and immediately moved to the side. A shadow passed through the place where he had been standing.

If Adam had not moved, the attack would have struck him. It was Shockwave. He had run toward Adam from a great distance, holding both arms in front of him like a shield. He intended to collide with Adam at full speed and kill him with the impact. But Adam was no longer there. The attack passed through the space he had left behind. Shockwave crashed into the sofas placed nearby for Vought's guests. His body continued forward and struck the glass wall beyond them.

The glass broke, and Shockwave fell outside the building. Adam looked in the direction where Shockwave had gone.

"Couldn't you see me?"
