Adam was still standing in front of Stormfront. Red light glowed around him, and the color had left Stormfront's face. Everyone thought Sage Grove was Vought's secret facility, but Stormfront knew the truth. The facility belonged to her. She had been using it to create her own Supes. Stormfront flinched when she saw Adam in front of her. Stormfront smiled. Stormfront lowered one arm after seeing Adam. Adam remembered sensing her when she flew into the facility and kept his full attention on Stormfront.
He looked toward M. M.
"Stormfront is here." Adam did not think there was any reason to hide that ability from the others. He could sense people around him, and telling The Boys about it would not harm him. It was more useful for them to know that Stormfront had arrived before she reached the room. M. M. looked at him. Frenchie and Lamplighter looked over too. Adam turned toward the exit.
"I'll deal with her." M. M. stepped forward.
"Adam, we don't want Vought or Homelander to know about this." Adam considered it. Then he looked back at them.
"Fine. I'll handle it; you get out of here." The Boys left with Lamplighter and the remaining subjects. Adam waited until his friends were out of the facility before facing Stormfront again.
"I was flying over this place," Adam said.
"Then I sensed a lot of Supes underneath me." He shut off his laser vision and gestured toward the damaged facility.
"Sorry about the mess; they attacked me, and I didn't have a choice." Adam sounded casual, but he thought, 'You have to believe me.' Stormfront looked around. She had expected to find the group that attacked Sage Grove. Instead, she had seen only the test subjects. Adam's explanation could be mostly true. She still kept some doubt because the man standing in front of her had already hurt Homelander. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
She believed him by seventy or eighty percent. The rest of her wanted confirmation. She could not forget that Adam had stopped Homelander, and she did not know whether Adam had destroyed the facility alone or whether someone else had helped him. She had to keep listening before deciding how much of his story was true. Her smile grew.
"I've always wanted to meet you, Adam." Adam was surprised, but he understood what Stormfront was doing. She walked past him and stopped behind him.
"Do you know how many Supes I've seen?" she asked.
"Every one of them has the same problem. They aren't pure." Adam did not turn around. Her hand touched his waist and moved lower. He was not afraid that she might attack him from behind. He knew he could endure her lightning and strike back. Stormfront knew that too. Adam would be lying if he said the thought of her attacking him did not matter at all. He did not care what the attack would do to him. Her power would not stop him. He could answer with a counterattack.
Stormfront understood that she could not win a direct fight against him.
"But you are different," she continued.
"You're moving toward absolute perfection. Homelander is just an attention seeker. That's the difference between you and him." Adam smiled. Stormfront's hand moved lower, but his waist suddenly disappeared from under it. Adam vanished from in front of her and appeared near a chair. He sat down after crossing the room in an instant.
"I know you're not stupid," Adam said.
"You probably sensed it already. My girlfriend is Starlight. So think carefully before you hurt her. It won't end well for you." Stormfront looked shocked. She smiled again.
"I had already realized that." Stormfront was pleased. Her physical move had been meant to send Adam a psychological message, and she believed it had worked because he had pulled away. His warning about Starlight had also built a wall between him and her. Now she knew that Adam had someone he wanted to protect. She believed her message had worked. Adam had moved away when she touched him. If she had done the same thing to Homelander, his reaction would have been different.
Adam's girlfriend was a vulnerable side she could use.
"My army of Supes is not enough to rule this world," Stormfront said. She spread both hands.
"But imagine a child born from the most powerful Supe and the strongest woman. The next generation could bring the whole world to its knees." Adam looked at her.
"Why are you people so obsessed with ruling the world? I mean, what's even here?" His question was genuine. Stormfront waited before answering.
"You have no idea what this world is hiding," she said.
"If you want to understand why people like us are fighting for it, talk to Homelander." She watched Adam for a reaction, but he remained indifferent.
"Homelander is desperate for attention," she continued.
"You know that better than anyone. Why do you think he acts that way?"
"Because he has been alone since childhood," Adam said.
"Just like you." Stormfront went silent. Adam stood and faced her.
"That's a terrible idea. I would never get into a relationship with a racist psychopath who has no empathy for anyone. It goes against my morals, and it seriously creeps me out." He turned away and started walking toward the exit. Stormfront watched him go. She could not attack him. She knew what would happen if she tried. Adam had joined the short list of people she feared, along with Homelander. Adam waved without turning around.
"And sorry about the damage. I don't have enough money to pay you. Vought gives you plenty anyway. You're the founder's wife and the first successful Supe." He walked out of the facility. He had stayed to keep Stormfront busy, but he had also wanted to understand what kind of person she was. Now he knew. When he sensed that his friends had already gone, he left as well. Stormfront remained inside the ruined facility. She wanted to say more to Adam, but she could not find the words.
