Chương 87: OATH AND LUCK
RISE OF THE SKILLMASTER · S.T.J · 100 chương · ~16 phút đọc · Tạo 20/08/2026
For the next few days- Jimin and his party started raiding the E-Rank Field Rift again after their first triumph. Unfortunately, things did not go nearly as smoothly as the first successful run. The first attempt ended in failure. The second attempt ended the same way. Still, nobody complained. They knew it was only a matter of time before they succeeded again. Meanwhile, Jimin had his own priorities. Initially, he planned to create 'Absolute Oath' first. But after some consideration, he changed his mind.
He decided to postpone it slightly to level-up 'Moment of the Skillmaster' in the meantime. Because, he wanted to kill the Boss by himself for once. And it was necessary for that. More importantly, it was becoming increasingly necessary. However, another issue soon revealed itself. A familiar one. LP gained per monster had started decreasing slowly. Now, killing a goblin gave him 21 LP, instead of 22. Making it clear to Jimin that raiding the same rift again and again, decreased the Exp and LP yields.
Just like the previous one. Fortunately, it wasn't all struggle and disappointment. In fact, those few days became quite productive. Most of that was because of Mimi. Jimin used this time to refine and improve 'Mi-mi' further, so that she could assist in combat as well. He even gave her authority to use his perception type skills autonomously all the time. She could now provide battlefield status in real-time. Which meant that he could focus more on combat. Mimi handled the rest.
Managing his resources, cooldowns and status; even analyzing enemy status, she managed everything simultaneously. And not only that; Mi-mi's speech and interactions were becoming more smooth and human-like, as she was learning from Jimin's interactions and evolving. She also didn't interfere with all of his thoughts anymore. Jimin even started referring to Mi-mi as 'she', instead of 'it'. The functional improvement was substantial. And eventually- His opportunity finally arrived.
Luck proved to be on his side on the fourth day. Because he managed to enter the Boss's lair by himself, leaving his party behind. At the Goblin Chief's chamber- The final remaining goblin collapsed onto the stone floor. Its head had been separated from its body, blood splattered across the ground.
"All the mobs are dead," Mimi's calm voice echoed inside his mind. The battlefield was a complete mess. Bodies were scattered everywhere. Truly the sight of a massacre. Yet Jimin barely spared it a glance. His focus remained entirely on one target. The Goblin Chief. Everything around him seemed slower. Jimin had already thrown his lance. The Goblin Chief's eyes widened. Its muscles tensed. It tried to dodge. But it was too late. The lance pierced directly through its face.
The Goblin Chief released one final groan, as its massive body slowly staggered backward. Everything still seemed to move in slow motion. Then Mi-mi spoke,"The Goblin Chief is dead." Suddenly, everything snapped back to normal. And the chief quickly crashed dead-flat on the floor. Then, the notification appeared as expected.
【The E-Rank Boss 'Goblin Chief' has been killed】 Reward: +121 LP Total LP: 3428 A grin appeared on Jimin's face. Nice. I can finally create Absolute Oath. However, his gaze suddenly shifted toward the loot. The chest. Maybe… I should collect the loot first. Without wasting any time, he approached the chest, collecting all of the scattered mana cores. But as he stood in front of the chest, a thought suddenly crossed his mind. Man, I forgot to use 'Treasure Hunter's sense' last time…
The way they were looking at me with sparkling puppy eyes… Jimin sighed. Whatever.
He immediately activated 'Treasure Hunter's sense'. But something unusual and unexpected happened.
"Huh?" he muttered. His eyebrows furrowed. Why is there no aura around it? Then suddenly- His eyes widened. As if he had realized something. Yeah… Unlike the mystery chests… Maybe these are luck based. That would mean the loot isn't fixed. But then, a wicked idea hit across his mind. And a grin slowly spread across his face. That means it can be changed. The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there. Jimin wasted no time.
"Mi-mi, analysis mode. Skill creation window…" She responded immediately. And soon, they came up with a new skill idea.
[Skill: Loot Enhancement] Category: Active Rank: Custom Description: Increases the quality and amount of items found in treasure chests and drops. Effects: +(10 + 0. 5 × LUK)% chance to get rarer gear. 10% chance to get double of a random dropped item. Required LP: 2450 【Create】 【Edit】 [Draft] 【Delete】 Jimin immediately frowned. Damnit. It's still too pricey. If I downgrade it even further, it'll be basically useless. He took a deep breath, rubbing his forehead. No… I need to change my approach.
"Should I draft the skill?" Mi-mi spoke. Jimin decided not to draft the skill. And he started working on a new skill. Descriptions changed. LP requirements fluctuated. Mimi occasionally provided suggestions. And eventually- A smile appeared on Jimin's face, as he got what he wanted.
[Skill: Lucky Looter] Category: Passive Type: Utility Rank: Custom Description: A permanent blessing that boosts the user's fortune right before opening a container, forcing chests to yield rarer and high-grade treasures. Scaling: Scales with LUK. Effects: +(10 + 0. 5 × LUK)% chance to get rarer gear. 10% chance to get double of a random dropped item. Cooldown: None Cost: None Required LP: 1340 【Create】 【Edit】 [Draft] 【Delete】
"Yeah. This is it," he murmured.
"Should I create the skill?" asked Mi-mi. Jimin wasted no time. Without any hesitation, he said, "Yes." And soon, a notification popped up.
[Skill Successfully Created]'Lucky Looter' – Acquired. Total LP: 2088 Jimin could feel a strange, slightly abstract sensation spreading across his body, as the skill settled in.
"Woah!" he murmured. It was clearly different from his other skills. After all, it was his first luck-based skill.
"Well then," Jimin muttered, as a grin formed on his face. It's time to see what's inside the chest. Without any hesitation, he opened the chest right away. The familiar burst of golden light exploded outward and as the light dimmed, the loots revealed themselves. There were a number of items. A staff. An armor. Two vials of potion. A Goblin Chief's Liver. And a Mana Crystal. He immediately started appraising the items. One item after another. The armor turned out to be E-rank. It was nothing special. Useful.
But ordinary. Then, he checked the staff. And the moment the item information window appeared, his eyes widened. The staff was a genuine D-rank.
"Damn!" he murmured. A grin appeared instantly. I really got a D-rank this time. But a disappointed sigh followed right after. Too bad it's a staff. I got no use for it. But his smile still remained. The value alone made it worthwhile. Anyways… This will fetch me a good load of money. Then, he moved to the rest of the items. But they turned out to be the usual loot.
After that- Jimin's attention shifted to 'Absolute Oath'.
"Mi-mi. Open the draft for 'Absolute Oath'," he said.
"Here you go," said Mi-mi, as a familiar window appeared before him.
[Skill: Absolute Oath] Category: Special Type: Contract Rank: Epic Description: Enables the user to propose a specific oath to a target. If the System deems the terms valid and the target provides informed consent, the oath is etched into their soul. Any conscious attempt to violate the oath results in 'True Torture'; an immediate and excruciating phantom pain, incapacitating them to prevent the breach.
System Intervention: For outcomes involving metaphysical changes, the System will directly execute the said change to ensure total compliance. Duration: Permanent (Until conditions are met / revoked by the User) Cooldown: None Cost: 40 MP Required LP: 2, 700 【Create】 【Edit】 [Draft] 【Delete】 Looks perfect for now… I can even decide the release conditions and punishment… Or other countermeasures.
"Correct," Mi-mi commented immediately. Jimin gave it a final look. But this time, his expression suddenly became thoughtful. On a second thought… Maybe it needs just a little extension.
"Mi-mi. Add just a simple detail…" he said.
"'The user can draft oaths or later uses'." And she complied. The modification was added instantly. But the increase in required LP was almost negligible. A grin appeared on his face. Alright. But then his expression slowly turned into a thoughtful one. He let out a big sigh. I couldn't create it this time either. This had been happening most of the time. He would plan to create a particular skill and some other idea would pop up out of nowhere. It was frustrating, yet somehow…
This was what pushed him forward; without him even realizing it. Jimin stared at the draft silently. Then finally shook his head. I should leave now… I'll create it later. Suddenly- Mimi began speaking.
"Since it's a Field Rift, you don't have to exit-" But Jimin immediately cut her off.
"Analysis mode off," he said in an annoyed tone.
"Analysis mode deactivated." Jimin stretched slightly. Then looked toward the exit. I should get back to my party now. But suddenly, a realization came over him. And he had a change of heart.
"No," he murmured. His eyes narrowed. I'll have to go to the arena tomorrow. And my final evaluation is in 3 days. This is my last raid before that. His fists tightened slightly. And a determined look appeared in his eyes. I'm not taking any chances… It's not like the Rift is closing anyway. His expression slowly brightened. I'll create it today.
