Chương 65: Choosing Jutsus

Shunsui along with Genma and Guy continued their training on the basics of ninjutsu and what was actually basic nature transformation. Nature transformation was basically changing their chakra to fire chakra or water chakra so that it would match the type of jutsu they wanted to use. The three genins worked hard every day under Choza's guidance. They practiced molding their chakra carefully and tried to feel the difference between their normal chakra and the transformed version.

Just like that a week had passed and Choza was quite sure that all three of them had mastered the basics of this. This meant it was finally time for them to finally learn ninjutsu. Choza gathered them together and told them that they had earned the right to visit the library and pick their first real techniques. As they reached Konoha Jutsu library which was guarded by quite a lot of shinobi and Shunsui was sure there were also some Anbu hiding around, Choza said, "I won't be able to accompany you from here.

Choose the most suitable jutsus for you and hand it to the person in charge there. He would give you a scroll for that jutsu."

"Oh and you can only access first and second floor which houses D and C rank jutsus respectively," Choza said. And Shunsui inwardly groaned, 'Of course, stinky Hiruzen just allowed us access to low level jutsu. Ughh.' He felt a bit annoyed because he wanted stronger techniques right away. Still, he hoped the C rank jutsus would be useful enough for their current level as genins. As they entered the library, they did not even look around and went straight to the second floor.

The inside of the building was qute big with rows of shelves filled with scrolls and books. They climbed the stairs quickly and reached the second floor where the C rank jutsus were kept. Shunsui whistled as he saw the number of jutsu scrolls and books on the second floor. The shelves stretched far and held hundreds of different techniques.

'Even though it's just a c rank floor. But damn that's so many jutsus. I don't think any other village could even hold a candle to the amount of jutsus Konoha has.'

'I bet lot of these jutsus are contribution from Uchiha Clan who might have just copied jutsus with their Sharingan and after mastering them submitting here to earn recognition and money. As Guy was about to pick the first jutsu he saw which was fire style fireball jutsu, Shunsui had to step in from making that stupid choice. He quickly put a hand on his friend's shoulder and stopped him.

"Don't pick that. Sensei probably knows that. Pick jutsus that you think that would fit your style and something that Choza sensei does not know," Shunsui said. Shunsui inwardly thought, 'Fireball jutsus does not even kill anyone in the anime despite being used so many times.' He remembered how often that technique appeared but rarely caused serious damage against strong opponents so he wanted his team to choose more practical options that matched their fighting ways.

The genins browsed through the jutsus carefully. They spent a good amount of time walking between the shelves and reading the descriptions on the scrolls. Shunsui looked for water release techniques that would help with his sword fighting while Genma searched for fire methods that could be used from a distance or for defense. Guy tried different fire techniques that involved strong physical moves because that matched his energetic style.

After they picked their jutsus, they met again near the entrance of the second floor. Each of them held two scrolls and looked happy with their selections. They found a quiet corner to talk before handing the scrolls to the librarian for copying. Genma showed his scrolls first and explained his choice to his teammates,"My first pick is Fire style: flame senbon. It allows me to mold the flames into flame slivers between my fingers in order to craft them into senbon.

These are then fired from my hands with a swiping motion." Genma demonstrated the hand movement slowly so his friends could picture it.

"This way even if I am out of senbon I would have a backup weapon in hand," Genma said. He sounded proud of this choice because it gave him more flexibility in fights when he ran out of his usual tools.

"The second pick is Fire release: Flame wall. It is a defensive jutsu that our team lacks and I am pretty sure neither of you picked something like that so I went ahead and picked one myself," Genma continued.

"It's a defensive Fire Release technique where I could release a spout of flame directly into the ground. When it hits, it spreads in a circle and erupts around me in a flaming torrent. Due to being made of flames, it is not a sturdy defence like an Earth Style Wall, but it has its uses against physical attacks. The fear of flames often enough to make the opponent back off." Shunsui was happy with Genma's choices.

'That's some good choices. And he even looked for the team while choosing. I don't think I can be that selfless.' Guy went next.

"I picked Fire style: heat shockwave jutsu. By focusing fire chakra to my palm, I can launch a heat shockwave," he said with enthusiasm.

"And my second jutsu is Fire style: Blazing tiger kick which channels Fire Release chakra into my leg, igniting it in flames. I can then perform a high-speed spinning kick aimed at the enemy. Upon impact, the flames explode outward also." Guy demonstrated a small kick in place to show the power he imagined. His choices fit perfectly with his taijutsu heavy fighting style and added fire damage to his strong kicks.

'Umm I should just tell Guy to call the second jutsu Diable Jambe. This is just ripping off sanji,' Shunsui thought with a mental smile. He then told about his own jutsus.

"I picked Hidden mist jutsu which you all know is a speciality of Kiri Shinobi and my second jutsu is Water Release: Water Forge Technique. By gathering water around my sword, it generates a rapidly swirling stream. Once striking with it, it unleashes a strong surge of water to launch a target," Shunsui explained.

He described how the hidden mist would create confusion on the battlefield by filling the area with thick fog and how the water forge would make his sword strikes even more powerful by adding spinning water pressure.

"Those are really suited to your kenjutsu style, Shunsui," Genma said nodding with approval.
