3 King stepped forward, cracking his knuckles.
"Alright... let's test this power of yours." He raised his hand.
"Magic Skill: EVERGREEN ARROW!" A glowing green bow formed in his hands. The arrow shot toward Mochi at incredible speed. Mochi immediately dashed forward.
"Too slow!" He flipped over the arrow, caught it in midair, and landed smoothly. King's eyes widened.
"What?!" Mochi grinned.
"Here!"
"YOU CAN HAVE IT BACK!" He hurled the arrow straight back at him. King's eyes widened even further. He twisted his body at the last second. WHOOSH! The arrow narrowly passed his face. But Mochi was already there. King's expression changed.
"Wait..." Mochi grinned menacingly.
"Gotcha." Mochi drove his fist directly into King's stomach. King's eyes widened as the impact knocked the air out of him.
"GHH!" Blood escaped from his mouth as he stumbled backward. He dropped to his knees, clutching his stomach. Krystal's eyes widened.
"What the heck?!" She looked at Mochi.
"That was way too violent for a friendly spar!" Mochi stared at King for a moment. Then he started laughing.
"HAHAHAHAHA!" He wiped his mouth.
"Aww... was that too much?" His grin widened.
"Well, he wanted to see my power." He cracked his knuckles.
"And he got it." Mochi's magic suddenly surged.
"Now then..." His body became surrounded by dark energy.
"Time to end him." Krystal immediately moved.
"Not so fast!" She charged toward Mochi. Mochi ducked underneath her attack. King suddenly appeared beside him. The two fairies attacked together. Mochi's grin returned.
"Two against one?" He blocked one strike before twisting his body. He elbowed King and Krystal at the exact same time. Amelia stared in disbelief.
"Has Mochi lost control?" Mochi laughed. This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
"Missile Jab!" He thrust his arm forward. A Mochi projectile launched toward Krystal. It moved so quickly that she barely had time to react.
"Wait..." The projectile exploded on impact. Krystal was launched across the arena and crashed outside the ring.
"KRYSTAL!" King immediately turned toward her. Mochi laughed.
"HAHAHAHA!" King clenched his fists. He launched himself toward Mochi.
"This is for Krystal!" Mochi pulled his arm back.
"Magic Skill: COUNTER STRIKE!" King's fist collided with Mochi's. The ground beneath them cracked. For a moment, they remained locked together. Then Mochi's strength overwhelmed him.
"GRAAAH!" King was launched backward with tremendous force. He flew across the arena and crashed outside the ring. Benkay stared in disbelief.
"He defeated both of them..." He slowly lowered his arms.
"Just like that..." Mochi stood in the center of the arena. His breathing became heavier. He suddenly clutched his head.
"C'mon..." He squeezed his eyes shut.
"It's over..." His voice trembled.
"Stop it..." Dark energy began leaking from his body. Amelia's eyes widened.
"Mochi...?" Mochi's body suddenly erupted with pure negative energy. The entire arena shook. Ace stepped forward.
"Crap!" He clenched his fists.
"He's gone out of control!" Krystal slowly pushed herself back onto her feet.
"We have to put a stop to him." King stood up beside her.
"Yeah." Thomas looked toward Benkay.
"Should we do something?" Benkay remained surprisingly calm.
"Nah." Thomas looked at him.
"What?"
"Are you sure?" Benkay nodded.
"These are fairies." He glanced toward King, Krystal, and Max.
"Support magic is their strong suit." He smiled.
"And once they combine their powers..." Benkay's eyes narrowed.
"You'll see what they can really do." King looked toward Max.
"Hey, Max." Max looked at him.
"You ready?" King nodded.
"You mean the..." Max understood immediately.
"The combination?" King nodded.
"Yeah." Max smiled.
"Alright. Sure." The three fairies instantly charged toward Mochi. Mochi's laughter grew louder.
"Three at once?!" His eyes widened with excitement.
"OH, THIS IS GOING TO BE GREAT!" He spread his arms.
"THREE WONDERFUL BODY BAGS!" Amelia watched nervously.
"Mochi is that really you?..." Krystal formed a glowing sphere of magic between her hands. Mochi immediately turned toward her.
"Gotcha!" He prepared to attack. But Krystal suddenly threw the sphere into the air. Mochi blinked.
"... Huh?" He looked upward.
"That wasn't the attack?" King was already in the air above him. Mochi's eyes narrowed.
"No you don't!" He thrust his arm upward.
"MISSILE JAB!" The Mochi projectile launched toward King. King grinned.
"MAX!" Max appeared beneath the projectile. He swung his fist. He knocked the projectile away. It flew straight toward Krystal. She caught it with her magic and redirected it. The glowing sphere flew toward King. King sent it toward Max. Max sent it back toward Krystal. The three passed the sphere between them in a perfect triangle. Mochi's eyes darted between them.
"What...?" The ball moved faster. And faster. Mochi tried to follow it.
"It's fast..." King smiled.
"Now!" All three fairies stopped simultaneously. Krystal, King, and Max shouted together.
"MAGIC SKILL: TRIANGULAR ZONE!" A massive zone of magic suddenly formed around Mochi. His eyes widened.
"Damn it!"
"What's going on?!" He tried moving. Nothing.
"I can't move!" King smirked.
"Exactly." Max suddenly appeared directly in front of Mochi.
"Now!" Max drove a fist into Mochi's face. Another struck his stomach. Then another. Mochi couldn't react. He couldn't even raise his arms. Krystal appeared behind him.
"Got you!" She landed a powerful punch against the back of his head. Mochi staggered forward. King launched himself into the air.
"Magic Skill: TRUE BLOOM!" A massive sphere of green magic formed above him. He over head kicked it down. It split apart. Hundreds of glowing green pellets began raining down. Mochi looked upward.
"No..." The pellets crashed into him. The entire arena disappeared beneath a cloud of dust. Amelia stared in utter shock.
"Mochi couldn't even move..." Thomas shook his head.
"No, that's not particularly the case.." Amelia looked toward him.
"What?"
"He could move." She stared at him.
"Then why didn't he?" Thomas pointed toward the zone.
"The Triangular Zone makes the opponent believe they can't move." Amelia's eyes widened.
"It messes with their mental state?"
"Exactly." Thomas looked toward Mochi.
"And right now, Mochi is mentally vulnerable." He narrowed his eyes.
"So the effect was even more effective against him." Benkay nodded.
"Exactly." He folded his arms.
"And there's something else." Ace looked toward him.
"Hmm?"
"The Triangular Zone also doubles their speed." Ace's eyes widened.
"So that's why Mochi couldn't keep up." Benkay nodded.
"Exactly." The dust slowly cleared. Everyone stared into the crater. Mochi lay motionless at the bottom. Unconscious. Amelia's mouth fell open. Ace couldn't believe what he was seeing. Tony stared blankly.
"They..." He pointed toward the crater.
"They actually beat Mochi..." King, Max, and Krystal looked down at Mochi, who had finally reverted back to his normal form. For a moment, none of them said anything. The horns were gone. The scar had faded. But the weight of what they'd just watched still hung heavy over the arena, the rubble, the scorched ground, the lingering trace of that dark magic still fading from the air. Nobody was in a hurry to break the silence. King finally exhaled and rubbed the back of his head.
"Yeah... we might have overdone it a little." Max nodded slowly, still staring at where Mochi lay.
"Yeah, just a little." Krystal glanced at the unconscious Mochi, her earlier smile long gone.
"Okay, maybe more than a little." Amelia hurried over, kneeling beside him, checking for a pulse she already knew was there.
"Will he be okay?" Benkay walked over and looked him over carefully before finally waving his hand, some of the tension easing from his shoulders.
"Relax. He'll be fine. We'll just let him rest." He sighed, glancing back at the wreckage of the arena.
"Although, that does mean we're down a man for fighting the RobogeneX units." Thomas stepped forward, his expression unreadable.
"That can't be helped. I'll get him." Thomas walked into the arena and effortlessly lifted Mochi over his shoulder, careful despite his strength. Nobody spoke much as they gathered themselves. It had been that kind of fight. Benkay finally clapped his hands together, if only to shake off the mood.
"Alright. We'll head back to my guild house." The group left the arena and made their way back to Benkay's guild house, the walk quiet at first, everyone still turning the fight over in their heads.
