Grid groaned, tapping the white metal.
"A fifty-five percent penalty? Why is there a name lock on this thing?!" Rudra walked over. Piaro and Mumud stood behind him. They all looked at the glowing gear.
"Can any of you even wear this?" Grid asked. Piaro shook his head.
"It is customized for Pope Franz. The armor rejects me." Mumud sighed quietly.
"Even if I could wear this armor, this holy armor would not be compatible with me." Rudra just shrugged.
"I only need my coat. You can keep the whole set, Grid." Grid blinked. He hugged the armor set tightly.
"Wait. Really? You don't want to argue over it?"
"Nope," Rudra said.
"But it isn't totally free. You keep the legendary set. In exchange, you owe me, Piaro, and Mumud one free, custom-made item in the future. And we get to keep the Goddess's Essence material" Grid did the math in his head. Giving away free labor hurt his wallet. But keeping a full legendary set without a fight was a huge win.
"Deal!" Grid agreed instantly. He smiled, completely convinced he just got the better end of the bargain. Isabel walked into the ruined throne room. She looked tired, but she was smiling. Rin was safe, and Luna had been subdued. Isabel bowed to the group.
"Thank you," Isabel said.
"We saved Rin."
"Great," Grid said, walking right up to her. He held out his two golden Pavranium discs.
"Now, give these the goddess's blessing like we promised and give me back my Divine Shield." Isabel sighed but nodded and returned the shield to Grid. Then she walked over to the undamaged Goddess Statue at the back of the room. She knelt down and prayed. A warm light fell from the ceiling and wrapped around the golden discs. [Goddess Rebecca's blessing has fallen on the Pavranium.] [The Pavranium will increase the owner's health recovery speed by 300%.]"Yes!" Grid cheered, kissing the golden discs.
Rudra watched from the side. He opened his inventory. He pulled out three heavy, unrefined chunks of metal. The moment the raw ores hit the air, they reacted. They hummed loudly. They floated right out of Rudra's palms and tried to fly straight across the room toward Grid. Rudra quickly reached out and grabbed them, holding them tight against his chest. The ores wiggled, desperate to reach Pagma's Successor. Grid froze. He stared at the struggling, sentient rocks. His jaw dropped. His hands started to shake.
"Is that..." Grid whispered, pointing a trembling finger.
"Is that more Pavranium?"
"Yep," Rudra said, keeping a firm grip on the floating metal.
"I found it a while ago. I'll trade you all three ores right now." Grid's eyes turned into giant dollar signs. He practically drooled. Having three more pieces meant he could craft something truly ridiculous.
"What do you want for them?" Grid asked quickly.
"Gold? Potions?"
"I want a staff," Rudra said flatly.
"And I know you have the Legendary Blacksmith's Creation skill. Use it." Grid stopped breathing. The color completely drained from his face. Pagma's Successor had a specific, limited number of times he could invent a brand-new item from scratch. The skill slot was incredibly precious. Wasting it on a weapon for someone else felt like a physical punch to the gut.
"No," Grid gasped, shaking his head.
"You can't ask for that. That's extortion!"
"Three pieces of Pavranium, Grid," Rudra said.
"I can just hold onto them," Rudra said, loosening his grip just a little. The ores buzzed happily.
"But come on, Grid. I've helped you out a lot lately. It'd be a shame to let a little favor ruin our friendship." Grid stared at the ores. He wanted them so badly his chest physically ached. He looked at Rudra. He looked back at the metal. Tears of actual blood welled up in Grid's eyes. He sobbed loudly, pulling his hair. The system was forcing him to choose between his most precious skill slot and the rarest metal in the game.
"You thief!" Grid wailed, crying openly in the middle of the ruined throne room.
"You absolute scammer! Fine! I'll do it! Give me the mineral!" Rudra smiled and let go. The three ores happily zoomed over to Grid, floating around his shoulders. Grid sniffled. He wiped his nose on his sleeve and glared at Rudra.
"Tell me what you want," Grid grumbled.
"But we have to go find a real forge first. I don't carry a furnace in my pocket."
"Works for me," Rudra grinned.
"The Vatican definitely has a smithy. Let's go find it."
