Grid kicked the heavy wooden doors open. They crashed loudly against the stone walls. Inside, the Vatican throne room was a total mess. The red carpet was burnt to pieces. Dozens of paladins lay groaning on the floor. At the far end of the room, a man in white and gold robes stood laughing. It was Pope Drevigo. Drevigo was incredibly corrupt. He was currently blasting light magic at a wounded man and a purple-haired girl. The girl was Rin, one of Rebecca's Daughters who tried to escape the church's brainwashing.
The bleeding man standing in front of her was a paladin named Damian, desperately trying to protect her. Grid jogged forward. He didn't look worried at all.
"Hey," Grid called out to Damian.
"Invite us to the party. Let us have the boss drops, and we'll save your life." Damian blinked. He was bleeding and out of options. He nodded frantically and accepted the party invite. Damian sighed in relief. Then he looked past Grid. He saw a man in a black trench coat holding a jagged, fiery bone staff. Damian's jaw dropped.
"Wait," Damian choked out, pointing a shaking finger.
"The black coat... the staff... You're The Zenith!" Rudra scratched the back of his neck.
"I really hate that nickname." The Pope finally noticed the intruders. He glared at them, his face turning red.
"Infidels!" Drevigo yelled.
"You dare point weapons at the agent of the goddess?!" The Pope waved his hand. A fast volley of white light bullets shot across the room, aimed right at Damian and Rin.
"Kratos, watch the squishy ones," Rudra said. The half-gold, half-black lion trotted forward. Kratos stood in front of Rin and opened his jaws. Chomp. Kratos literally ate the light magic bullets right out of the air. The lion chewed them happily, then let out a tiny burp that smelled like ozone. Damian stared at the beast.
"Did that lion just eat magic?" Drevigo was furious.
"I will punish you myself!" He raised his hands. A massive, blinding wave of light magic erupted from his body, covering the entire width of the throne room. It was a devastating area attack. Piaro stepped forward. He didn't look impressed. Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. He drew his steel sword. He didn't yell an attack name. He just took a perfectly balanced step and swung his blade. Swish. The sword cut cleanly through the air.
The massive wave of light magic split completely in half. It rushed harmlessly past them and scorched the back walls. Drevigo gasped.
"What?!" Piaro didn't stop. He dashed forward, his footwork flawless. He slashed his sword, pressing the Pope into a corner. Drevigo panicked. He couldn't cast offensive spells fast enough to keep the swordsman away. The Pope threw his hands up. A pale green, translucent shield formed around his body.
"Goddess' Protection!" Drevigo screamed. Piaro's sword bounced off the absolute defense.
"My turn," Rudra said. He slid across the floor, gripping the Staff of the Fire Lord. The fiery bone blurred. He dropped his hips and brought the staff around in a brutal, sweeping arc. CRACK! The staff smashed into the green shield. The heavy blunt force didn't care about magical defense. The impact rattled the Pope's teeth. The green shield cracked. Rudra pulled the staff back an inch and thrust it forward, hitting the exact same spot. The shield shattered completely into glowing green dust.
Drevigo stumbled backward, coughing up blood. His invincibility was totally gone.
"He's open!" Grid yelled. Drevigo was desperate. Two large gold circles formed quickly behind his back.
"Goddess' Wrath!" the Pope roared. A massive, terrifying beam of white light shot from the circles. It was strong enough to destroy the entire building. Grid didn't flinch. He tossed two small golden discs into the air. Clang! The discs moved on their own, blocking the massive beam perfectly. The deadly light harmlessly bounced off the metal. Rudra blinked. He stared at the spinning golden discs. Wait, Rudra thought. That looks exactly like the raw Pavranium ore I found in the vampire vault. Grid rushed forward.
He gripped his greatsword, Dainsleif, with both hands. A bright golden aura wrapped around the heavy black blade.
"Pagma's Sword Dance!" Grid shouted.
"Kill!" Grid thrust the greatsword forward. The heavy blade pierced right through the exhausted Pope's chest. Drevigo's eyes went wide. He coughed up blood, staring at Grid. A second later, the Pope fell to the floor and turned into gray light. Golden system windows flooded the room. Grid cheered, immediately bending down to scoop up the dropped loot. Damian stared at his own hands. A new system window had just popped up for him. He had received the unique hidden class, Goddess's Agent.
"I... I actually got it," Damian whispered. He wiped happy tears from his eyes. Rudra walked over to the fading gray light where the Pope died. He didn't care about the item drops. He was more focused on the notification regarding his Rune. [You have successfully analyzed and claimed the enemy's ability!] [Saint's Breath] [Recovers 80% of your Health and 50% of your party members' Health. Clears minor abnormal status effects. Resource Consumption: 2, 000 Divine Energy. Cooldown: 20 minutes.] Rudra grinned.
He already had plenty of Divine Energy generated by his stats. Now he had a massive party heal in his back pocket.
"Good fight," Rudra said. He rested his fiery staff on his shoulder and looked at Grid.
"Now, about those golden discs..."
