The Kingdom of Harth was a modest country in terms of the Nightrealm. They specialized in studying Magics and Force, two common sources that were incredibly intuitive to learn. The military of Harth was about 3 million strong; however, that number paled when compared to some of their allies. While an army of Force users and magicians was deadly, it took only an advanced civilization dropping an unfathomable weapon to wipe out their kingdom.
So, instead of being warmongers, Harth stayed as a peaceful country, one that preached love and extended a hand downwards and upwards equally. Neutrality was a comfortable place within the Nightrealm. However, peace without power was a fever dream. Even if Harth could be destroyed by a weapon beyond their comprehension, the possibility wasn't zero; they still held enough power to be taken seriously. Why? You may be asking. Dreamers were the reason.
While awakening as a Dreamer was an incredibly rare occurrence, and recruiting one was an incredibly difficult ordeal, the genetic predisposition of the Harths being born with alters gave them an innate advantage in achieving Dreamerhood. A nuke may wipe out millions, but a determined Dreamer may just survive through innate Will alone. Lilia, her sisters, her mother and her father, even her butler and her swain, June, were all Dreamers.
Meaning that the family alone was a force that more powerful countries tiptoed around respectfully. The last thing anyone would want to do in the Nightrealm would be to anger a Dreamer. At least most Nightmares forgot about you if you riled them up. You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version. Lilia jumped as a few sudden shots were fired off. The assailant's voice, riddled with impatience, screamed at the top of their lungs.
"COME OUT NOW!!!" Either Lilia didn't want to get blood on their hands today. Bang Another gunshot rang out. She clenched her fists and held them against her chest with shut eyes.
'Pacifism! Pacifism… pacifism?' Repeated chanting those words like a mantra within her mind; each time, she felt a little less sure of the words' meaning. Lilia hated killing, murder, or just the act of hurting — or did she? A hint of ambivalence peeked through her psyche, a part of her that both alters pushed out of their mind. Did she truly believe in pacifism? The answer was a resounding no.
The assailant causing a ruckus outside was likely mundane, considering that she couldn't feel a Dreamer aura, and at worst, they could be an Aspirant. An Aspirant was nothing to her; she was by no means a weak damsel in distress. If anything, the thought of June being put through the wringer without her made her blood boil.
Unknowingly, her Dreamer aura's already frigid nature intensified, causing frost to creep over her dress, and nearby taps and toilets within the lavatory building froze, dripping water in their tracks. She grabbed her acquired sword and barged out of the door, leaving the hiding place of the few survivors she had found.
Before the assailant had a chance to even speak, Lilia flourished her free hand, manifesting a floating ice dagger in an instant, then sent it flying through the man's head, gibbing his skull on the way out, leaving a trail of splattering blood in its frozen wake. She was tired of waiting for someone to act in her place; she needed to save June.
