Leviathan leaned gracefully over the side of the bed, resting her arms on the mattress. She was so close that Ken could smell her perfume—it smelled like cool ocean water and fresh rain. She stared down at him, her violet eyes totally focused on his face.
"You know, I simply do not understand you sometimes," Leviathan purred, her voice turning incredibly soft and seductive. Ken blinked, looking at her suspiciously. He kept his hands safely tucked under his blanket.
"What is there to understand? I like snacks, I like sleeping, and I hate doing cardio. I am a very simple, very transparent guy."
"You are a supreme being," Leviathan corrected him, her voice dripping with absolute reverence.
"You possess a level of magic that defies the very laws of nature. You could literally split the sky in half if you wanted to. And yet... here you are. Wasting your time playing house in a dusty, estate with a team full of weak, mortal girls." Ken let out a loud, exaggerated sigh. He shifted his weight on the lumpy mattress, trying to get comfortable.
"I am not playing house," Ken argued lazily.
"I just got swept up in the moment. When I met Princess Iris on the street that day, she gave me this whole speech about potential. She was so stubborn about it. And then Grandmaster Finlay showed up at my front door and basically dragged me into this car. It was a very forceful recruitment process. I didn't really have a choice." Leviathan let out a sharp, highly amused laugh. She didn't buy his excuse for a single second.
"Please," Leviathan teased, shaking her head.
"Do not try to lie to me. We both know that is complete nonsense. With a literal snap of your fingers, you possess the magic to completely erase every single memory they have of you. You could wipe your name from their minds, turn around, and walk away scot-free. You could go back to your completely boring, normal life right now. Yet, you choose to stay. Why?" Ken opened his mouth to answer, but he suddenly paused. He looked up at the ceiling. He actually thought about it for a second.
Why hadn't he just wiped their memories? He definitely had the power to do it. It would only take a few seconds of concentration. He could have easily erased Naomi's memory of him jumping in front of the spear. He could have made Sayma forget his name. But as he thought about it, he realized he didn't actually want to. Ken laughed softly, a genuine, relaxed chuckle escaping his lips. He turned his head to look back at the beautiful Demon Queen.
"Honestly? I don't exactly know," Ken admitted, shrugging his shoulders under the blanket.
"At first, I just stayed to make sure my family didn't get into trouble. But now? I think I just find it slightly amusing. Naomi yells at me constantly, Laxmi throws fireballs at my shoes, and Ira refuses to share her chocolate with me. It is incredibly annoying, but it is also kind of funny to watch them try so hard." The temperature in the room, which had been slowly warming up, suddenly dropped by another ten degrees. She leaned in even closer. Her face was only a few inches away from his. Her violet eyes narrowed, and a sudden, sharp edge of teasing jealousy entered her voice.
"Amusing?" Leviathan whispered, her tone turning dangerously silky.
"Is that all it is? Or is there another reason?" Ken blinked, totally confused by her sudden mood swing.
"What other reason could there possibly be?" Leviathan reached out and lightly traced a single, perfectly manicured fingernail down the edge of Ken's blanket. She looked at him with a mix of fierce pride and deep, possessive curiosity.
"Did your future-sight show you something special about one of them?" Leviathan asked, her voice purring with a hint of dark suspicion.
"Or are you simply staying because you have a little human crush on one of those mortal girls? Is it the loud redhead who throws tantrums? Or the polite one with the thick glasses?" Ken's eyes went completely wide. He stared at her like she had just spoken in an alien language.
"A crush? Are you out of your mind? Naomi would literally use me as a human shield if we ran out of rocks to hide behind! They are my coworkers! Highly aggressive, deeply terrifying coworkers!" Leviathan didn't back down. She leaned her face even closer, her green hair falling over her shoulder and brushing against his arm. She looked deeply, intensely into his eyes.
"You do not need to settle for weak, fragile mortals," Leviathan murmured, her voice dripping with absolute, seductive confidence.
"You are a god walking among insects. You deserve a companion who actually understands the depths of your power. A companion who can stand by your side when you finally decide to conquer this pathetic Empire." She offered him a slow, incredibly dangerous smile.
"I am the only woman in this entire world who is truly worthy of sleeping beside a Sovereign," Leviathan purred softly. The atmosphere in the tiny bedroom was incredibly heavy. The tension was thick enough to cut with a sword. Leviathan was an ancient, terrifying, breathtakingly beautiful Demon Queen, and she was offering her absolute devotion directly to him. Any normal man would have been completely paralyzed by her charm. Ken Eliot stared at her. He looked at her beautiful face.
He looked at her glowing violet eyes. Then, Ken rolled his eyes so hard he almost gave himself a headache. Without a single word, Ken reached out and grabbed his second, slightly lumpy pillow. He didn't use any magical energy. He just used his normal, lazy human strength. He brought the pillow up and lightly, but firmly, shoved it directly into Leviathan's beautiful face, pushing her back away from him.
"Get out of my room," Ken said bluntly, totally unfazed by her supernatural charm.
"You are blocking my bedside lamp, and you are making my blanket cold." Leviathan let out a startled, highly offended gasp. She stumbled backward, batting the pillow away from her face. She stared at him in pure, unfiltered shock.
"Did you just push me with a pillow?" Leviathan asked, completely bewildered. She had just offered him the world, and he had treated her like an annoying housecat that was sitting on his keyboard.
"Yes, I did," Ken replied lazily, pulling the blanket all the way up to his chin again. He turned onto his side, putting his back toward her.
"Your report was great. Ten out of ten. Very informative. But right now, I am officially closed for business. Tell Ryu to keep watching the perimeter, and tell yourself to go back into the shadows so I can finally get some sleep." Leviathan stood in the middle of the room, staring at his back. For a second, she looked like she wanted to argue. She looked like she wanted to yell at him for totally ruining her dramatic, romantic moment.
