Chương 64: Ch 36a – Memory: Sisters

Jenny's cold toes press purposefully against her bare shin where the leg of her pyjamas has ridden up. She protests with a poke into Jenny's ribs.

"Ow," Jenny yelps.

"Stop putting your cold feet on me!" she counters. She rolls away as Jenny's hands seek to return the jab.

"Girls!" Gran scolds, "If you don't behave there will be no story tonight."

"She started it," Jenny taunts in a whiny voice.

"Stop!" she yells.

"Enough," Gran says, exasperated.

"Jenny, come and sit on my other side." Jenny sits up and twists towards Gran.

"But. That's not fair. This is my bed. She should have to move."

"She is your younger sister. You should know how to behave." Gran says sternly.

"It's not fair," Jenny sulks. She throws back the duvet unnecessarily wide, letting the cold air into the warm bed. Cara giggles as she watches Jenny stomp around the bed. Clutching Fiona Fluffy Bunny, Cara rearranges the duvet and snuggles back down into the bed to wait for Gran to start the bedtime story. Beside her the bed feels suddenly too big and empty.
