Lumia continued to watch Dex as he finished his defiant monologue. "My lost memory... it is my solitary cell. You remember every second of your torment, and that gives you purpose-it gives you fire for vengeance. But me? I stand in an absolute void. I do not know who I am. I do not know who my people are, or what my homeland is. I do not understand why the natural Mana in this forest recoils from me as though I were a contagion." She opened her eyes and looked directly into his blazing blue ones.

Her honesty was absolute-a cosmic honesty terrifying in its purity, so complete that the restless Phoenix Mana in Dex's chest went entirely still, and the fire receded like a predator bowing in the presence of royalty.

"But I know one thing with certainty-in the midst of all this emptiness. The soul I see before me may be broken, deformed, and burdened with the darkness of that other world you came from... but it is the only soul in this existence that did not look at me as a cosmic beast to be killed, or a legendary weapon to be exploited. And beyond that forest... an empire and an entire world in need of a hard lesson." He tightened his grip on her hand with a firm assurance and smiled-a royal smile befitting one born from the womb of hell.

"We will show them all... that when prisoners break free of their cells and shatter their chains-they do not flee to hide. They emerge to become kings." A large golden spark leapt from the Phoenix fire and danced around their clasped hands, announcing the beginning of a new age-and a pact between two strangers who would overturn the balance of the world of Ekarthas.
