Year 330. During those years, Xia and Mason began searching for other vampires, trying to discover how many of them were still left in the world. The search, however, proved almost impossible. Many vampires emitted no magical energy at all, while others were able to conceal it perfectly. From the outside, they appeared to be ordinary creatures, indistinguishable from other living beings and invisible even to the most sophisticated spells. Mason followed Xia more out of coercion than genuine interest.
He had tried to escape several times, but Xia had always managed to track him down. By now, it was obvious: Xia was vastly more powerful than him. Mason regretted revealing the truth about his identity to her so easily. Ever since she had begun feeding regularly, once a month, Xia had far surpassed the limits she had known throughout her entire life. Moreover, living with that curse had become a torment for him.
Every time he felt desire, even for just an instant, a terrifying pain exploded throughout his entire body. The suffering was so intense that it was almost incomprehensible. Because of this, his usual liveliness had slowly faded. One evening, Xia was adjusting her kimono while three men finished getting dressed. One of them sighed in satisfaction.
"That was spectacular…the thought of having to go back to my wife now is depressing". Another turned toward Xia.
"Madam, if you intend to invite us again, you'll find us at the same tavern. We'll be happy to satisfy you whenever you wish". Xia took a step toward them and smiled faintly.
"Thank you, but that won't be necessary". She pointed at the floor in front of her.
"Now, please remain standing there". The three men looked at one another in confusion. Then, without understanding her intentions, they obeyed. Xia remained motionless before them. Then she opened her mouth wide. Her jaws distorted, briefly taking on the unnatural shape characteristic of vampires. A moment later, only three gnawed skeletons remained in the room. Very little flesh was still attached to their bones. If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Xia slowly wiped her mouth with a cloth, then went over to Mason. She sat down in front of him with her legs apart. Mason looked at her for a moment. Then he immediately looked away. He could already feel his bones throbbing with pain. He had never found Xia particularly attractive. By his standards, she was too tall and curvaceous. And yet, after years of abstinence, his desire had become so uncontrollable that it had begun turning toward women he would not normally have even given a second glance. Even Xia.
And every time that desire appeared, even for an instant, the pain came without hesitation.
"You're truly an unworthy woman…" he growled in frustration. Xia smiled and crossed her legs.
"A rapist talking about dignity is rather interesting", she replied calmly. Mason smirked.
"You're unrecognizable. What happened to that woman I met in that alley?" He studied her carefully.
"If I had known you were like this back then, I would have killed you". Xia did not flinch.
"I'm still the same. I simply accepted my vampiric nature, just as you taught me". She slowly stood up.
"We are apex predators. A race superior to all others. That is why the Clan Prinz had to exterminate us thousands of years ago. We were too dangerous for the world". She paused briefly.
"And apparently, we are the only remnants of that superior and pure race". Her gaze became more resolute.
"But it would be a waste to allow everything to end with us". She looked Mason in the eyes.
"We should recreate it". Mason remained silent for a few seconds. Then he smiled. And burst out laughing. Quietly at first. Then louder and louder. He was laughing out of sheer amusement. Xia stared at him, slightly annoyed.
"What's so funny?"
"Now I understand all those encounters you've been having…" Mason's laughter turned into a smirk.
"You didn't suddenly become a nymphomaniac". He covered his mouth with one hand, clearly amused.
"You're trying to have a child". He laughed again.
"Now that's funny".
"What exactly is so funny?" Xia replied in a cold voice. Mason's laughter gradually died down, though that irritating smile remained on his face.
"Vampires are not fertile". Xia frowned.
"The Clan Prinz's extermination was successful precisely because there were so few of us, partly because of this problem".
"We're not fertile? How is that possible?"
"In theory, we are. Otherwise, the first pure vampire would never have been born". Mason leaned back in his chair.
"But that fertility…is even lower than that of elves". Xia remained silent.
"In simple terms", Mason continued, "even if you had intercourse for a million years, the chances of becoming pregnant would be less than one percent". Xia remained motionless. Those words had surprised her. After a few seconds, she slowly stood up.
"Then how were you and I born?" she asked tensely. Mason shrugged.
"We're half-bloods. Our ancestors were vampires".
"I don't know exactly how we were born", Mason explained.
"But being born a vampire isn't the only way to become one. Perhaps our ancestors were bitten by vampires. Or perhaps they were born through vampiric rituals". Xia stared at him.
"Vampiric rituals? What are they?"
"Rituals in which two vampires combine their blood to create another one. They have a very low chance of success". Xia narrowed her eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me before?" Mason shrugged again.
"Because you never asked me". Then he laughed again.
"All those encounters…completely pointless". His smile turned cruel.
"You feel stupid, don't you?" Xia remained motionless. Then she approached him. She grabbed his chin and turned his face, forcing him to look her in the eyes. Desire struck Mason immediately. Pain exploded through every fiber of his body. Mason began writhing and screaming, unable to free himself. Xia continued holding his face firmly in place. Her gaze was icy.
"You'll tell me how those rituals are performed. Understood?" Mason nodded with difficulty. His body was ravaged by agony.
"Good", Xia said coldly. She let him go. Then she left the room without looking back. Mason remained there, panting, his mind still shaken, while the pain slowly receded, leaving behind a feeling of emptiness. Every time, it was like enduring the worst tortures all at once in the span of a few seconds. Mason felt an ever-growing hatred toward Xia. But along with the hatred, something else was growing as well. Fear.
