Xarath watched Loxia engulfed in flames. Despite the countless magical particles absorbed by Faelira, one of the most powerful mages of the era, he could still feel the limiters constricting his power like invisible chains. His plan had always been to absorb as many magical particles as possible, forcing the limiters beyond their limits in the hope that they would eventually break. But so far, it had not worked.
"Even this wasn't enough…" he thought.
"Is the Seer Aelira's ritual really that powerful?" He clenched his teeth.
"It doesn't matter. I won't give up. Sooner or later, I'll be free from the Seer Aelira's chains". He steadied his breathing and began walking toward the devastated city. In a large hall, Nikos Nervos sat comfortably at the head of the table. To his right, he was playing chess against the mage capable of predicting the future by a few minutes. At the same time, to his left, he was playing a game of backgammon against another mage. Morvath sat across from him.
"Mage Morvath", Nikos said, "you and the mages present here are capable of opening portals to anywhere in the world, correct?"
"Yes", Morvath replied.
"We should all be capable of doing so". Nikos moved a piece on the chessboard, then immediately moved another piece on the backgammon board.
"And your sensory perception? How large an area can you cover, on average?" Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.
"It depends on the mage. I'd say around fifty kilometers".
"Fifty?" Nikos remarked with a faint smile.
"That's rather limited".
"I can reach one hundred and fifty", Morvath countered.
"One hundred and fifty…interesting. Then you'll be the one to search the area where I suspect the swords may be". Morvath raised an eyebrow.
"And where would that be?"
"The Frozen Lands".
"The Frozen Lands? What makes you think they're there?"
"We've been in the Central Lands for quite some time and we obtained the two legendary swords we currently possess here. However, we haven't sensed the ones the black-haired mage should possess. And they can't be to the south, otherwise Seer Aelira would have sensed them". Nikos leaned back in his chair.
"I therefore suspect they're in the Frozen Lands, but it's only a supposition". Morvath crossed his arms.
"You make it sound like a small area. The Frozen Lands encompass dozens of regions and islands. Including the Last Island of the North, where the cold is unbearable".
"And that's where you come in", Nikos replied.
"I've narrowed down the search area. You, with your sensory perception, will narrow it down even further". He made another move on both boards. He had won both games at the exact same moment.
"But…that doesn't make sense", the chess mage muttered, staring at the board.
"That's enough. I surrender", the backgammon player grumbled, getting to his feet in defeat. Nikos turned his gaze back to Morvath.
"So, Mage Morvath, can you do it?" Morvath nodded seriously.
"Certainly. It will only take some time". Teresa slowly approached the three enormous black eggs embedded in the rock and gently brushed her fingers against them. They were gigantic, nearly two meters tall and equally imposing in width. Their shells were a deep, dark black, almost incapable of reflecting light.
"They're here…" Teresa whispered, overwhelmed with emotion.
"These will be the Green Dragon's offspring". The gnome approached, studying them carefully.
"I can't believe my eyes". Teresa continued staring at them in fascination.
"I knew it wasn't a legend…I knew it". The gnome examined the eggs again.
"They look like they could hatch at any moment". Naomi nervously glanced toward the horizon.
"Then we need to hide. If the green dragon finds us beside the eggs, it won't hesitate to attack us". Teresa nodded, holding back her excitement.
"You're right. Let's hide and wait for it". They silently moved away, hiding behind some rocks. The warm wind blew between the rocks. Then, almost imperceptibly, the eggs began to tremble.
