"So we're opening the first batch of gates today?"

"Yes," the vice-captain replied without looking up from the runes.

"The others will be connected sequentially over the coming days."

"What do they call this initial one?" The vice-captain checked the invading records, running a claw down the interface.

"Earth." The leader paused, the name echoing in his throat.

"Earth?" A wide grin spread across his scaled face, exposing rows of sharp teeth.

"How arrogant." He turned his full attention toward the swirling vortex forming inside the frame of the gate.

"Remember Heaven? The world that called itself Heaven." His grin widened at the memory.

"We destroyed it in record time." The gate began to glow with an intense, ominous light, the boundary between universes beginning to buckle.

"It's always amusing," the leader murmured, taking a final look toward the rift.

"The more arrogant a world is, the faster it falls."

The rhythmic, aggressive clicking of a mechanical keyboard was the only thing keeping Leon anchored to the physical world. Leon, wondering if today is the day he dies, stared blankly at the dual monitors of his desk. Interlocking lines of JavaScript blurred together into a dull, neon maze. Inside him constant unimaginable agony was coursing throughout his entire body and soul. To anyone passing by his cubicle though, he looked like a model employee.

He was twenty-four years old, standing at a lean 173 centimeters, and carrying an athletic 61 kilograms built from years of hyper-fixated, chaotic calisthenics. Today, he wore his usual comfort uniform: black jeans and shoes, along with a white t-shirt that contrasted with his dark brown hair. He possessed striking, honey-colored eyes that usually held a glint of intense, wandering curiosity. Right now, however, those eyes were glazed over with absolute, soul-crushing boredom.

His ADHD was clawing at the inside of his skull. The office was too quiet, the fluorescent lights were too bright, and the standard daily code tasks felt like a prison sentence. "Finally..." Leon whispered, his voice shaking as he looked down at his trembling hands.

"It's been over a decade..... I am so tired."
