Seraphina continued down the corridor before stopping at the containment room. She clicked the intercom, relaying her voice through it despite knowing full well that Nina would not be awake for the next few hours.
"I don't know what you are," Seraphina began, "but this should be the prime time for you to stabilize Nina in order to permanently lock her sanity level. Whatever you did last time..."... Seeing that there was no flicker or movement, Seraphina pursed her lips before continuing.
"You and I both know we've already met due to your slip-up last time." Seraphina watched carefully. After some time, the intercom turned green. It was a feature that was not available within the intercom system itself. So, it's good that we agree.
"Let's hope this time things go much better than expected." Seraphina turned and walked away.... System Transfer. Will to Live Value: 60. True Will to Live Value: -59. Loading… Transfer complete. True Will to Live Value: 1. Current Will to Live Value: 0. Loading… Debt for " Current Will to Live" has been terminated, restrictions upon the soul "Nina" are lifted.... Seraphina made her way to another room. This one was much less of a containment facility and more of an ordinary interrogation room.
She scanned her iris before stepping inside. Inside was Nate, who should have been awakening within the next few seconds. Seraphina grabbed a seat and waited. Sure enough, Nate soon opened his eyes. He looked rather bewildered by what was happening, which made Seraphina frown. The last time Seraphina had seen Nate, he had almost always looked at her with anger or hatred. Yet now, he seemed genuinely bewildered.
Seraphina's eyes twitched as she remembered her first rebirth and how they had come to the same point at the same time. Is it possible?
"What do you remember?" Seraphina asked. Nate, who had been lost in his own thoughts, snapped to attention. After laying his eyes upon her, his eyebrows lowered slightly as he noticed her one golden iris. A faint sense of recognition flickered within him. Seeing that faint recognition, Seraphina pursed her lips. It can't be true.
"You're back, aren't you?" Nate sighed, trying his best to relax despite being restrained in the chair.
"Yeah." Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. He looked around the room.
"To think that the plan would fail so dramatically." He glanced back toward Seraphina.
"So, what exactly is happening here? I'm sure I should be the one sitting across from that Nina girl, and she should be the one in restraints, should she not?"
"Good." Seraphina relaxed.
"Seems I don't need to bring you up to par." She reached forward and grabbed his face, leaning closer to stare into his eyes.
"Do you not remember this life?" Nate tried to speak, but no words came out. Sensing his discomfort, Seraphina stepped back, retracting her hand. Sure enough, moments later, Nate suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood. Both of them stared at the blood as it continued flowing from his mouth, staining his clothes.
"Ah, it seems I've become much weaker." Nate let out a dry laugh, trying to lighten the mood. Seraphina didn't even bother commenting. She swiftly grabbed a pair of gloves and a handkerchief, wiping the blood from his face before opening a bottle of medicine. She pinched Nate's nose and tilted his head upward. With some assistance from him, she managed to get the medicine down his throat.
Afterward, she stepped back and carefully removed the items, wrapping them up before taking another handkerchief and wiping the remaining blood from his face. She tidied everything up, preparing to dispose of it in the incinerator.
"It seems you're still the same as ever," Nate spoke slowly, ignoring his pain. But Seraphina paid no attention to him as she left the room without even bothering to look back. When Nate tried to say another word, he couldn't. He found himself losing consciousness. Damit. He thought. … After her brief exchange with Nate Monet, Seraphina quietly updated the plans in her mind. They had managed to finish everything in roughly two years and seven months, just under three years in total.
The Calamity was not supposed to appear for another eight years, giving them far more time than Seraphina had originally expected. It's a good thing Nate is back from the last life. That alone made many of the things that needed to happen far less relevant now. Some of them did not need to happen at all. But Seraphina stopped as she looked toward the door in front of her. Jeanette Monet. She would be quite the troublesome one to deal with.
But given that her tactics had not changed, Seraphina could simply use the same method she had used last time. Opening the door, Seraphina was met with a room in complete disarray. Everything breakable had been broken, and everything that could be thrown had been tossed around. Yet no matter how much Jeanette tried, she would never be able to break through the cylinder surrounding her prison. Seraphina sighed.
You would think that, given this was her second time being here, she would understand that it is impossible for her to destroy this place. Seraphina pressed the intercom, and everything in the room slowly began putting itself back together. As the objects moved into place, Seraphina's eyes scanned the room. Where could this girl possibly be? Walking around, she eventually found Jeanette curled up beside a closet, huddled within the shadows.
"Good day to you, Jeanette Monet." Bloodshot eyes met hers.
"What do you want?"
"Isn't the world you wanted saved? You have your own reputation. You have the Seer to do your dirty work, for crying out loud. Why are you coming after us two siblings again?"
"I don't understand. I did everything right, and yet..." Her voice began to crack.
"And yet..." Seraphina looked at her coldly, not opening her mouth to offer a single word of comfort. She simply waited as Jeanette continued to ramble on and on. She watched as Jeanette went from pleading, to cursing, to threatening, all within the span of a few breaths. Eventually, Jeanette simply fell silent and quietly heaved in her corner. After ensuring that Jeanette was finished, Seraphina spoke.
"If you're done, I have a proposition for you."
"I'm not doing anything for you," Jeanette shot back, not even giving Seraphina a chance to explain.
"Are you sure?" Jeanette huffed, curling further into herself.
"What if..." Seraphina began lightly.
"In return for your cooperation, I give you Duke Valcrest on a silver platter. Alive. What you do with him afterward is entirely up to you." A brief silence ensued. Jeanette kept her mouth shut while Seraphina brought forth her pink sofa and lightly lay down on it, patiently awaiting Jeanette's answer. After some time, Jeanette finally turned toward her.
"I want a magic binding contract." Seraphina brought forth a magical contract, sending it through the cylinder and directly into Jeanette's mind. The contract passed through the cylinder, carrying all the conditions specifically related to the room and Jeanette herself. Everything else was free to pass through the cylinder. However, if a human wished to enter, they would need Seraphina's permission. Likewise, anything that needed to leave would require Seraphina's approval.
Jeanette quietly read through the contract. She was pissed. Everything she could possibly have wanted to ask for was already written into it, which only made her more annoyed. Before Jeanette could open her mouth, she spoke again.
"I want you to suffer a gruesome death if you dare go back on your word, this contract, or anything written within it. If you violate it, I want you to suffer a gruesome death and never reincarnate again."
"I agree," Seraphina said lightly. Her immediate agreement to such absurd terms made Jeanette feel as though she had just punched a cloud. As she watched the new term appear within the magical contract, Jeanette could only purse her lips before signing it. The contract disappeared, its contents being imprinted into both of their minds. Even then, Jeanette still felt cheated. Aside from a few major provisions, most of the contract concerned her behavior and what she could or could not do in certain situations.
Some of the clauses would even result in her death if she failed to comply. It was incredibly annoying. But the temptation of finally getting her hands on the person who had caused her death brought a heavy sense of satisfaction to her heart.
