Seraphina stood within the inner courtyard of the Anti Holy Faction. Beside her stood Rosa, who had grabbed one of the guards by the neck and was holding him up while force-feeding him the heart she had just ripped out of his chest. Rosa watched coldly as his body slowly stopped spasming before tossing him aside like a ragdoll. She shuffled through his pockets, eventually finding a conspicuous string of keys.
"When can we go inside?" Rosa said, her expression as cold as ice. A bit earlier, when they had arrived, Seraphina had stated that they should not go in yet, as the timing would be off if they went in too early. But even so, Rosa had crossed her legs and sat on the ground, with one hand lightly supporting her head. One whole hour had passed. During that time, she had used her powers to look through the past of each individual person. Those she found to be ill-natured or criminals, she slaughtered without mercy.
Rosa had even let her other copies go out and have some fun. Out of the 230 people she had examined, only 54 were people seeking refuge within the knight order who had done nothing to regular individuals. About 20 were simply people who worked at the estate, doing familial work such as cooking, cleaning, and all the other necessary tasks. Those individuals were only knocked unconscious before being fed a sleeping drug that would wear off within 24 hours. They could not have the people inside being alerted.
Everybody else, on the other hand, met a gruesome death. As Rosa thought about what to do next, Seraphina spoke.
"Open the gateway." Rosa opened a portal, the other side revealing what appeared to be a cell. But before she could think much about it, Seraphina prepared to step through. As she was about to pass through the portal, she spoke lightly to Rosa.
"Remember what I told you, don't you?"
"Yes, I know. I know."
"Good."... Just as Mr. Blackmore was about to begin influencing Jeanette, believing this to be the perfect opportunity to get her to agree to something she normally would not, he noticed a swift figure move to cover her in the blink of an eye. Due to the speed of the person in question, Mr. Blackmore felt as though he had been assaulted by the wind itself. After getting his bearings, he turned toward the figure, only to realize that the person had not even bothered to look in his general vicinity.
"It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. Breathe. Breathe." The mysterious figure repeated the words over and over again. Mr. Blackmore quietly watched as his perfect opportunity to act disappeared. But given the change that had just occurred, he felt that there would always be another opportunity as long as he remained in this place.
"Ahem." Mr. Blackmore coughed lightly, causing the shadowy figure to startle and reflexively turn his head toward the source of the noise. Mr. Blackmore had expected to see another shadowy face. After all, both Jeanette and the tattooed man, who had always been in this room, seemed to have some sort of mysterious identity-hiding mechanism. But seeing someone's bare face after more than two years left him dumbfounded.
Despite not actively experiencing those two years, given that he had only been awakened for a short period of time, he had developed a general theory about this room and the way the people within it hid their identities. He had two possibilities. The first was that the effect was related to the room itself. Perhaps entering the room caused one's face to become hidden from others, similar to Mr. Hemmensway's power. That would make sense if this place was someone's domain.
But seeing that this individual's face was clearly visible to him meant that Jeanette must have been wearing some sort of device that specifically hid her identity. This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Mr. Blackmore's thoughts moved quickly. After reaching that conclusion, he decided that it would be best to quickly figure out who this person was and what relationship he could possibly have with Jeanette. Seeing the short pink hair and blue eyes, Mr.
Blackmore fell deep into thought.
"Nate Monet," Nina murmured. Hearing those words, Mr. Blackmore subconsciously repeated them.
"Nate Monet." Hearing his name, Nate subconsciously furrowed his brows. He was sure that he did not know this person. And what was that last thing he said? Monet? Could this person have confused him with somebody else? Why would they call him Nate Monet? As Nate thought about that, pain suddenly shot through his head and eye. He subconsciously raised his hand, wanting to claw his eye out. But before he could, a swift strike to the side of his neck sent him into a deep state of unconsciousness....
After saying those words, Mr. Blackmore closed his mouth as he realized that he had accidentally said them out loud. He looked warily at Nate. Mr. Blackmore had prepared himself for some kind of outburst, similar to how Jeanette had reacted. But instead, he was met with a pair of confused eyes. Just as he was about to open his mouth to clear up the situation and promptly apologize, he saw Nate's hand clench. Mr. Blackmore was about to wonder what was happening when the space before him opened up.
Saintess Seraphina stepped lightly through the opening. In the next moment, she knocked both Jeanette and Nate unconscious. As Nate was struck, Mr. Blackmore noticed his eyes widen in pain. One of his irises was slowly turning gold. Mr. Blackmore frowned, but before he could say anything, Seraphina made her way toward him. Thinking that she was about to release him, Mr. Blackmore relaxed. But in the next moment, Seraphina grabbed Nina's face, opened a bottle of medicine, and forced its contents down her throat.
As the medicine went down, all the personas gradually began to feel dizzy. Nina, from within her conscious state, unwillingly watched as all of her personas were forcibly dragged back into their subconscious states. Before she could even process what had happened, an unknown force pulled her into the conscious state. And just as she was about to try to make sense of everything, she suddenly saw stars. Then she, too, fainted. …
After seeing the success of her potion, Seraphina stood straight once again and politely took a handkerchief to wipe her hands. As she did so, the guards who had been guarding the area noticed that something was wrong and made their way inside. Earlier, they had pretended not to notice what was happening because they had realized who the person inside was. But now that things had calmed down, they found that it had become a little too quiet.
When they checked, sure enough, they saw a gorgeous woman dressed in white who slowly turned her attention toward them. She was quite a sight to behold, but they still had to remain on guard.
"Young lady," one of the guards said.
"Put your hands where we can see them and step away from the people." Seraphina looked lightly at the people who had entered, but her eyes did not land on them. Instead, her gaze landed on the grieving souls that lay behind them. Looking at them, Seraphina sighed. To purge the wicked and satisfy her duty, she needed to do her job. Without much thought, she cast Light of Judgment, a spell that looked into a person's life and the people they had wronged.
The spell placed the person within a sanctuary where the people they had wronged possessed complete control and could do whatever they wished to them, based on everything the person had done to them. If the person was innocent, the sanctuary would be seen as a gift from the Goddess, allowing them to spend time with loved ones who had long since passed away. But for the wicked, it was a nightmare waiting to be bestowed. Whatever was done to them within the sanctuary would eventually manifest in the real world.
In other words, after casting the spell, there was nothing but two lifeless husks standing before her.... After some time roaming around the Anti Holy Faction's manor and headquarters, Rosa was able to accomplish a great deal. She also sent forth her copies to hunt down different houses and slave-trading areas, as well as help deal with other corrupt nobles. However, she ensured that she only dealt with poorer nobles, as she had made a promise to Seraphina not to attack the higher-ranking nobles just yet.
Within the headquarters itself, there were many more people who had been knocked unconscious and fed sleeping drugs. This put Rosa in a rather pleasant mood, as their cause was rather noble and something she would have most likely joined had things gone differently. After sweeping through the entire area, Rosa finally made her way to the last place Seraphina had instructed her to visit after she had finished having her fun. Making her way down the stairs, Rosa eventually reached the lower level.
Seraphina had been waiting there. After ensuring that Nina had been removed from her restraints and placed outside the prison area with guards, Seraphina turned off the reflective mirror and closed off the area, ensuring that Rosa would be unable to discover what Nina had gone through. As Seraphina waited for Rosa to come down so they could help send the three people out, she watched the stairs. Then, she noticed a swarm of souls surrounding a figure from both the front and back.
Unsure of what was happening, she prepared to kill the person. But then she realized that the dark figures were leaving behind golden light. One by one, they let go of their hatred and departed toward the underworld, where they would be freed and judged according to their lives. Eventually, the swarm began to die down. Seraphina watched as the figure was revealed. It was Rosa. She was surrounded by a golden ray of merit.
This merit was like giving someone a portion of one's own luck, allowing them to be reborn into another life with a portion of that merit carried over. Despite this being one of the reasons Seraphina had chosen to work with Rosa, there was another reason. In her previous lives, despite Rosa turning to a life of crime, Seraphina had never registered her as a criminal. She had seen her more as a kindred spirit. The reason was simple. Rosa had never had any dark souls hovering around her because of wrongful deaths.
Instead, she had always been surrounded by a magnificent array of merit, something Rosa herself seemed completely unaware of. However, Seraphina was uninterested in telling her about such matters. If Rosa were to absorb the Golden Merit, it would make things far more troublesome than they already were, especially if Seraphina wished to finally get rid of the True Calamity. Rosa still needed to be tamed.
