"Yeah, I can see it in your eyes, you understand… how can someone coming out of the Tutorial manage to not only reach the pinnacle of power, but surpass it so much that the existing powers can't do anything to you? Well, nobody really knows the details, but he took advantage of the tutorial for all it was worth, and when he went out he crushed any kingdom, faction, clan or corporation that dared to put a foot on his planet, his planet."
"Are there really that many opportunities in the tutorial to do so? Especially in a hundred days?"
"Ah, of course you don't know. The tutorial will last way longer than a hundred days, this is just the first phase. But I can't tell you more. Anyway, yes. There are a great number of opportunities here, and many will be snatched by others, like the first achievements." He said while downing a third glass. Damn, this guy drinks like a professional.
"What are those?" I asked him. He smacked his lips in enjoyment.
"Achievements for being the first of your race to cast a spell, kill a monster, kill a monster of a certain level etc. etc. Very powerful things that you don't have, but Libu got them. Not because he was the first to do those things, that is dictated by chance more than anything. There are so many stories about some nobody getting the achievements just because they threw their sword and miraculously killed a horned rabbit before anybody else.
The point is, those achievements can be taken by those of the same species who kill their bearer…" That was… not what I was expecting.
"Ok, but I don't see how those have anything to do with me."
"Those in particular? Nothing. But there are many first achievements you will be able to obtain, they are very powerful, and there is a simple way of getting those. I can't divulge how to get them directly, but you can buy a guide in the System shop. It is expensive, but worth it." He winked at me.
"Ok, so that will be something we can put our money together to get. What else should I be considering for my near future, regarding skills and class, for example?" He thought for a moment. He looked like he was a bit disgruntled by me changing the topic. Maybe these achievements were better than I thought.
"Apart from that, which I strongly advise you to look into, about your class I'll tell you right now, don't evolve it."
"For the achievements?"
"Yeah. You are near to some good stuff, especially if you manage to pump your stats a bit more. At three thousand total you will get a new one of the growth series."
"Why three thousand and not two and a half? I thought the progression would follow that pattern, it did for skills and class."
"It does, normally, but you used a class evolution token. Before you say anything, yes I can tell. If you were outside the tutorial it would be a big problem, but here you're playing in easy mode, so you only get a little penalty for the next threshold, then the progression will return to normal. So it will be an achievement at three thousand and one at five thousand.
If you can manage that, it will be the greatest boon you can imagine, and I'm not talking about the stats, but the insight and growth of the skills and class. They are doing more than you think for you right now." If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. I rubbed my chin. I'd have to shave soon, it was starting to get itchy. I thought about what he was saying. With access to the shop I could go for more rounds of cursed potions.
So I told him so, explaining how I went through three rounds of boosting my stats already.
"You won't be able to use them forever," he replied.
"They will start to have diminishing returns soon, until they won't provide any more benefits. But there are other ways. You will have to find them by yourself though, I can't tell you anything more. Ha! This is exciting! Maybe I'll manage to make a little monster out of you, especially with your skill set."
"Is it the first time you teach someone?" He laughed at me.
"No, not at all. I'm a renowned martial master and teacher in my sector, but it is the first time I decided to enter a tutorial in this role. Usually I have to deal with people who come to me for learning, but then try to impose their ideas on me, like they're somehow better just because they got taught by their stupid clan something that doesn't work in the real world… it is hard to fill a cup that's already full. But you, you are clean slates. No preconceptions, and incredible potential.
It is kind of fun to think about what the future holds in store."
"Glad to be an interesting student. But can we go back to class and skills?" He filled me another glass, and his own too.
"Right, right. So start exploring your class better, especially that hex skill. It is extremely powerful and versatile. Train it to go deeper. If you manage to link it to someone's aura it will be even better. It could lead to some interesting evolutions. Talking about evolutions… what you want from your skills is to synergize between one another. You have a curse theme going on for you.
Mind you, many will hunt you down just for having the Hexer class, so if you proceed forward you will get some really unwanted attention. But curses are quite powerful, more than many other element or concept type skills. There is a reason they are so feared. Anyway, your aura is intrinsically related to the curses that affect and have affected you. The more it happens the more your aura will strengthen. If you can make your hex scale off your aura instead of just your willpower stat…
that will make it that much stronger. Then you could evolve that stupid dart skill to become aura based too, or to be able to carry curses at least. Where did you get that anyway?"
"I bought it from the System shop. The first two skills I got with my mage class were Arcane Manipulation and Arcane Sense, so I wasn't left with that many options except buying an offensive type skill. Actually I bought three: Arcane Bullet, Push, and Barrier," I told him.
"Mmm, yeah, it makes sense, but with only ten free skill slots, it's a bit of a-" I did a double take at that.
"Whoa, slow down! What do you mean only ten slots? You're telling me that we can just add ten skills outside of class related ones?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot that these kinds of information are still not available to you, but yes, ten skills is the limit. There are achievements and ways of increasing the number but they are really rare. So take it into consideration for the future. Your skills are quite lackluster for being there, and no, you can't change them, only evolve them." Fuck… why didn't the System say anything to us? It wouldn't have been hard.
Just a little message before buying the skill, like you have limited space so think carefully about it. It would have been nice to know.
"That is not good. I still have Dart and Blast. What should I do with them?"
"Well it depends on where you want to go, but in my opinion evolve them to work off aura or your hexes. Actually any kind of offense could be performed through your aura alone, defense too. But a dedicated skill will improve their power for sure. A question though, what happened to your Barrier skill? I don't seem to remember seeing it in your status."
"It mutated into Aural Manifestation."
"Motherfu- hrm… of course, of course it mutated into that skill, because it makes so much sense…" He was gritting his teeth, the sound much different than when a human did it. I was starting to enjoy making him upset about these things.
