Recap: You are Dungeon Sovereign. System Tether is active (24h Warning). MP is Critical (7/28). You voted to EARTH JAMMING (DECEPTION). Seven MP. I needed at least twenty to open enough doors to confuse a System-level tracker. I couldn't run this plan on empty. Priority One: Fuel, I thought. I settled against the Core. The golden sphere recognized my Sovereignty. It didn't just give mana; it pumped it. The Core Attuned status made the flow efficient.
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Skill Used: Core Link (Recharge) Time Elapsed: 6 Hours MP Regenerated: +21 Current MP: 28/28 (Full) Status Effect: System Tether Warning: Tracking Signal Strengthening (18 Hours Remaining) Eighteen hours. Better than twenty-four, but the System was narrowing the search. I stood up. The party was waiting. Torin was polishing his shield. Kara was meditating. Renn was eating rations.
"Ready?" Torin asked. He saw the glow return to my bands. Buzz. (Ready). I slid to the center of the Sanctum. I focused on the White Door mark on my lid. It wasn't just a door anymore. It was a broadcast antenna. The System was using it to triangulate my position. So I'll give them too many positions, I thought.
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Skill Used: Gatekeeper Passage (Multi-Target) Cost: 5 MP per Portal Target Locations: Earth (Randomized Major Hubs) Portals Opened: 4 Total Cost: 20 MP Current MP: 8/28 I didn't step through. I just opened them. Four swirling vortexes appeared around me in the Sanctum. They didn't lead to the same alley. One led to Shibuya Crossing (Tokyo). One to Times Square (New York). One to Piccadilly Circus (London). One to a desert highway (Nevada). The Tether on my lid screamed.
The red line vibrated violently. It was trying to lock onto one signal, but it was getting four strong bursts of reality interference simultaneously. If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it. SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Effect: Signal Jamming Successful System Tracking Status: CONFUSED Estimated Response Time: Delayed (Indefinite) Side Effect: Earth Stability Risk (Low)"The air… it's cracking," Kara whispered. She pointed at the portals.
Tiny sparks of white code were leaking out of them.
"The System… it's trying to close them." Let it try, I thought. I slammed my lid. The portals vanished. The Tether on my lid flickered. The solid red line turned into a dashed, chaotic pattern. It wasn't gone, but it was broken. Fragmented.
"ERROR… LOCATION… AMBIGUOUS…" a voice echoed in my head. Not the Core. The System.
"SEARCH… EXPANDED…" They weren't coming for me specifically anymore. They were scanning everywhere.
"Did it work?" Renn asked. He looked at the map. The red dot representing us was blinking erratically. Buzz. (Yes). Torin sheathed his sword.
"You bought us time. But now they're looking at the whole planet." Collateral damage, I thought. I put Earth in the crossfire to save the Dungeon. Guilt prickled in my wood. But survival was paramount. If the System found the Core, Earth would be consumed anyway. This was the lesser evil. SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Quest Updated: The Eye Approaches Status: Tracking Lost New Threat: System Sweepers (Global) Warning: Any Earth Location May Spawn Enemies Dungeon Safety: High (For Now) The Sanctum was safe.
The Dungeon was fortified. But Earth… Earth was now a hunting ground. I looked at the Party. They knew. They could feel the shift in the air. The Dungeon was quiet, but the world outside was waking up to a war they didn't understand.
"We can't hide forever," Kara said. She touched my band.
"If they sweep Earth… people will die. Innocents." Buzz. (I know).
"Then we hunt them," Torin said. His voice was hard.
"If they come to Earth… we meet them there. On our terms. Not in the Dungeon. Not in the Sanctum. Wherever they show up." Aggressive, I thought. I like it. I had 8 MP. 24 SP. 20 HP. The Dungeon was secure. The Tether was scrambled. Now we had to decide how to use this window. Do we stay and defend the Core? Or do we go to Earth and act as a rapid response team against the Sweepers? The Core pulsed.
"… Protect… Home… But… Do… Not… Abandon… The… Other… Home…" It wanted me to protect both. Impossible. But I was the Gatekeeper. Impossible was my job description. Current Stats (Level 10 - Gatekeeper Mimic): HP: 20/34 (Low) Mana: 8/28 (Low - Jamming Cost) Stamina: 24/38 (Moderate) Inventory: 2 Pebbles, Metal Items (Fused). Mage Staff (Loot). Guardian Hammer (Stored). White Door (Scrambled). Status: Dungeon Sovereign, System Tether (Scrambled), Earth Risk High. What do you do?
A) DEFEND THE DUNGEON (STATIC) Stay in the Sanctum. Let the Dungeon defenses handle any intruders. Focus on healing and MP regen. (Cost: 0 SP. Time Skip: 12 Hours. Gain: Full Stats. Risk: Earth Suffers Alone.) B) PATROL EARTH (MOBILE) Open a portal to a high-risk Earth zone. Hunt the Sweepers before they cause damage. (Cost: 5 MP. Gain: Protect Earth, XP. Risk: Dungeon Vulnerable, MP Low.) C) UPGRADE PARTY GEAR (PREP) Use Dungeon Sovereignty to enchant Torin/Kara/Renn's gear with Dungeon Materials.
Make them ready for global deployment. (Cost: 10 MP. Gain: Party Power Up. Risk: MP Critical.) D) INVESTIGATE THE TETHER (LORE) Analyze the scrambled signal. Can we trace the System's origin? Find the "Eye" before it finds us? (Cost: 5 MP. Gain: Intel on Enemy Base. Risk: System Might Trace Back.) VOTING CLOSES IN 24 HOURS. Reply with A, B, C, or D. Most votes wins. [Author Note] Thanks for voting on Chapter 85! Option B (Earth Jamming) was successful! You Scrambled the System Tether but increased Earth Risk!
You are now low on MP (8/28) after the operation!
