Meno did not press Accept immediately. Everything about the offer looked too good, which after the last two days was exactly what worried him. Solar had already given him one supposedly personalized Challenge Class, watched him abuse it hard enough to retire the entire system, then tried to hand Swing Master back early as damage control. Now, barely one hour later, some evil god was offering an evolution that only three players in the entire game could ever hold.
There had to be a catch, because otherwise nobody in their right mind would decline. Titan had not been limited to three players. Infernal definitely had not. A Special Class Evolution with a global holder cap this low had to be stronger by rarity alone, or at least weird enough that Meno would regret refusing it forever. Losing the upgrades invested into Pump Infernal I and Break Infernal V was annoying, but not disastrous.
He still had 51 Essence sitting uselessly in storage, and if Naraltan's modification system returned at Level 100, he could rebuild around whatever Tyrant actually did. His bigger concern was PvP. Excrino had unlocked through negative Karma. If Tyrant turned out to be pure player-killing bait, Meno would be stuck with a class that was great for content and terrible for leveling. PvP did not normally give XP unless a Grave Crown banner was involved, and those banners were still restricted to higher Veyran zones.
Meno looked up at Excrino, who remained aggressively ugly.
"Would've been real cool if I could read the actual evolution before selecting." Excrino watched him with those black eyes and tiny red pupils.
"Scared." The god paused long enough that Meno almost expected another full speech.
"Not Tyrant." Chat immediately chose Excrino's side. CALLED YOU SCARED LMAO NOT TYRANT got skill checked DECLINE THEN COWARD three player class and bro is THINKING EXCRINO UNDERSTANDS PBG ALREADY"True. So true." Meno looked back at the window.
"If I don't accept this, I'll regret it forever anyway, so it isn't really a choice. There's no way it's bad, and if it is bait, that still won't stop me." He pressed Accept, and the class changed immediately. Notifications flooded his vision fast enough that Meno almost regretted asking to see the details. He was getting seriously tired of reading walls of text, but this one actually mattered. The first announcement went global. [GLOBAL ANNOUNCEMENT] PrayerBeadGod has become the first Tyrant.
Slaying a Tyrant awards double their active Global Bounty. Meno's excitement disappeared.
"Hey! Wait just a second. It didn't say anything about that!" His active bounty was already 5, 000, 000g, which meant killing him was suddenly worth 10, 000, 000g.
"Are you serious?!" TEN MILLION BOUNTY LMAOOOO EVERYONE HUNT HIM TYRANT TAX BRO JUST DOUBLED HIS OWN DEBT 10 MILLION GOLD GET THE RAID accept button working as intended read the fine print next time"I am doomed. This better be worth it." Meno opened the actual class. [Swing Master Tyrant] Chain: Each stack of Chain increases damage by 10% (additive). Meno stopped reading.
"OLD CHAIN IS BACK!" For the first time since Infernal replaced Compound Swing, the resource itself directly increased damage again. Chat understood how much that mattered. CHAIN DAMAGE RETURNED WE ARE SO BACK NO MORE DETONATION ONLY BUILD read the rest before celebrating OLD SWING MASTER RESURRECTED Meno continued. Chain cannot fall below 1, 000. Landing a hit with a Massive weapon grants 100 Chain. Other weapon hits do not grant Chain. Multi-Strike and other extra-hit effects do not grant additional Chain.
You may use all weapon types. Weapon swapping has no penalty.
"Well, somewhat back." Meno was getting Infernal flashbacks.
"Minimum 1, 000 Chain is insane, but normal weapon hits don't build it anymore. What the hell is a Massive weapon? Never heard of that." Starting every fight at 1, 000 Chain meant +10, 000% additive damage from the resource alone, which was already disgusting. 101x hits. Then the built-in weapon swapping caught his attention." Control Infernal is just baked in now. No swap penalty." The Chain rules continued underneath. Chain breaks if: You miss a weapon attack.
You fail to land a weapon attack within 3 seconds of your previous weapon hit. When Chain breaks, it resets to 1, 000 and you gain Indignation. Indignation: Chain has no effect for 3 seconds. This is not a debuff and cannot be removed.
"Okay, that's pretty standard. Don't miss, land something every 3 seconds. If I break, Chain doesn't zero anymore, but all the damage from it shuts off for 3 seconds." That was much harsher than simply dropping to the floor value. During Indignation, even the permanent 1, 000 Chain did nothing. Meno frowned.
"That completely kills Break Infernal, so I assume it's gone." The first active answered a different problem. [Annihilator] Active. Combine your equipped main-hand and offhand melee weapons into one weapon. The combined weapon retains the weapon type of your main-hand weapon and the item modifiers of both weapons. Its Damage Tier is equal to the lower Damage Tier of the two. While wielded, it counts as one-handed, two-handed, and Dual-Wielding for all bonuses and effects.
The combined weapon is wielded in one hand and does not incur Dual-Wielding penalties. While Annihilator is active, gain 100% increased Attack Speed. You cannot equip another offhand weapon, but you may equip a Shield. You may throw the combined weapon to medium range. The throw counts as a ranged attack. The weapon returns on hit, or after 3 seconds if it misses. Annihilator may be canceled at any time to separate the weapons. Meno grinned.
"YES! Attack Speed!" That had been one of his biggest concerns about losing Break Infernal. Playing Swing Master without a major speed boost after getting used to the old action-speed windows would have felt garbage.
"Best stat after Action Speed. I was worried Tyrant was going to turn into Eternal 2. 0 where you attack at glacial speed waiting for one perfect window." DOUBLE WEAPON FUSION 100% ATTACK SPEED WE ARE BACK ONE HAND TWO HAND DUAL WIELD AT ONCE WTF THROW THE SUPER SWORD shield swap tyrant build incoming THIS CLASS IS ALREADY COOKED Meno read it again, this time paying attention to the item interactions.
"So you dual wield, then combine both weapons into one faster weapon that keeps both sets of modifiers. It also counts as one-handed, two-handed, and Dual-Wielding at the same time." That opened a ridiculous amount of gear synergy, since modifiers that normally competed because they required different weapon setups could all apply to the same combined weapon.
"And it has no cooldown. Sweet." The shield clause was interesting but less exciting.
"You can hold a shield with it too, but shields still murder Action Speed, so probably not worth it unless something else makes defensive swapping useful." The next active was much less normal. [Xenocide] Active. Cooldown: 10 seconds. Dying refreshes the cooldown. The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Detonate your equipped weapons to create a medium-range death zone centered on you for 3 seconds. The death zone follows you.
Each hostile target within the death zone is hit 10 times total, with each hit dealing main-hand weapon damage. If Xenocide kills a target, all other targets of the exact same type within the death zone also die. While Xenocide is active, Chain cannot break or be gained, and you cannot equip another weapon. When Xenocide ends, your weapons are returned, and the 3-second Chain upkeep window is refreshed. Combined weapons return separated, with any unequipped components returned to your inventory. Meno laughed.
"Tyrant is awesome." A moving medium-range damage zone that hit everything 10 times over 3 seconds was already strong enough, but the execution clause made the timing weird.
"So while it's active I lose my weapons, can't attack normally, and Chain freezes. Everything around me gets hit 10 times total." Meno focused on the timing.
"If something enters on the last second, does it get all 10 hits compressed, or only however many are left? Have to test." XENOCIDE IS A REAL ABILITY NAME LMAO TEN HITS AOE exact same type execute sounds suspicious PBG ABOUT TO WIPE SPECIES CHAIN FREEZE UTILITY IS HUGE use it when you can't reach target"Yeah, no clue what exact same type means. Same named monster? Same species? All humans would be completely stupid." He doubted Solar was that generous. Probably.
"But because everything in the area is already taking the same damage, this sounds more like cleanup than a real execute. If one weak version dies, the rest of that exact type get deleted too." The Chain protection mattered more.
"Freezing Chain for 3 seconds has utility even if the damage isn't amazing. Ten hits over 3 seconds isn't that fast for me, especially since Attack Speed doesn't scale it, but preserving Chain while I can't hit something is really good." Then Meno found the mechanic he had been waiting for. [Quadrillionator] Active. Cooldown: 10 seconds. Dying refreshes the cooldown.
Combine one one-handed weapon, one two-handed weapon, and one ranged weapon from your inventory or equipped slots into a temporary Massive weapon and equip it. The combined weapon counts as all three categories, inherits the combined item modifiers of all three weapons, and can be used for both melee and ranged attacks. Its Damage Tier is equal to the lowest Damage Tier among the three weapons used. Results vary based on the weapon types used. Melee hits with Quadrillionator gain 100% Defense Pierce.
Quadrillionator remains active until canceled. Lasts for one attack. Meno had to read that twice.
"What?" He went through the categories again: one one-handed weapon, one two-handed weapon, and one ranged weapon, all combining into whatever the hell a Massive weapon was.
"This is the most ridiculous ability I've ever seen." That also explained how Tyrant built Chain. A successful Massive weapon hit granted 100 Chain, making Quadrillionator the primary ramp button on a 10-second cooldown.
"So I'm locked to about 100 Chain every 10 seconds unless there's another Massive weapon source. That's not fast at all compared with old Swing Master, but with a permanent 1, 000 floor I guess that makes sense." Old Compound Swing ramped hard because it started from nothing, while Tyrant started already dangerous and scaled slower.
"Slower ramp, way higher immediate damage." Chat was more interested in the weapon fusion. THREE WEAPONS ONE ATTACK RESULTS VARY = SECRET RECIPES the tyrant tax is buying an arsenal PBG NEEDS A BOW AND GREATSWORD NOW you only have the sword RIP 100% DEFENSE PIERCE MELEE LOL MASSIVE WEAPON CRAFTING META"True, I can't even use this at the moment." Meno checked his inventory.
"I have no ranged weapon and no two-hander." That was annoying.
"And all three need to be high tier because the Damage Tier gets dragged down by the weakest one, same problem as Annihilator. Tyrant tax." He was going to need a lot of gear. The next ability solved something much more immediate. [Crownmind] Active. Cooldown: 10 seconds. Dying refreshes the cooldown. Purges all Crowd Control and Debuffs. Can be activated at any time.
"Good!" Meno had wanted exactly this for a long time.
"I can finally replace Sleepless Grip. This solves it completely." More importantly, Crownmind worked at any time, which meant stuns could not lock him out of the button.
"Even better. I choose what gets deleted, and I can use it while controlled." No more waiting for a glove to automatically block the wrong effect. Then the class became stupid again. [Mush] Active. Divine. Cooldown: 666 years. Dying, leaving combat, or if the target later dies after being affected by Mush refreshes the cooldown. Summon an Incarnation of Excrino to kill the target, then resurrect them 1 second later as they were, with all transient effects and resources purged and cooldowns left unchanged.
Can only target the victim of your most recent Massive weapon hit. This death grants no kill credit or rewards. Effects that trigger on, prevent, replace, or follow death or resurrection are bypassed, except for Divine effects. Chat went insane before Meno finished. 666 YEAR COOLDOWN DIVINE SKILL???? HE CAN KILL SOMEONE WITHOUT KILLING THEM GIGA DISPEL IT BYPASSES CHEAT DEATH TOO EXCRINO JUST PERSONALLY EXECUTES THEM USE IT ON THORN PLEASE WORLD FIRST DIVINE???
"Very funny with the cooldown." The refresh rules made it effectively once per combat against the main target, with extra uses possible only when the affected target died.
"But this is basically a giga dispel." Meno started thinking through the implications.
"If someone used this on me, I'd come back with Chain purged. Any buff, resource, shield, stack, or temporary setup they built is gone too." Cooldowns stayed exactly where they were, which was the nasty part.
"So somebody presses their big 3-minute cooldown, I hit them with Quadrillionator, then Mush them. They die, come back without the buff, and the cooldown is still gone." That was unbelievably toxic.
"World first Divine skill? Think so." He moved on. [Inexhaustible Tyrant] While below 50% Maximum HP, regenerate 10% Maximum HP per second, up to 50% Maximum HP. Meno waited for more text. There was none.
"That's useful, I guess. Nothing crazy." After False Hero, regenerating half his health over time barely registered.
"Not seeing any damage mod. This skill needs a buff." FREE 50% HP IS MID APPARENTLY sustain brainrot HEALING IS A DPS LOSS thorn would commit crimes for this passive UNGRATEFUL TYRANT The next passive explained why so many active cooldowns refreshed on death. [Defiant Tyrant] When you die, resurrect with 1 HP and Absorption equal to 100% of your Maximum HP. Once per combat.
"Cheat death." Meno immediately connected the rest.
"So that's why Xenocide, Quadrillionator, Crownmind, and Mush all mention dying." In theory, Tyrant could intentionally die to refresh those cooldowns. The downside was obvious.
"Dying breaks Chain, though. Not sure how useful that is outside emergencies." Mush made the trade more interesting.
"Good way to reset Mush if you absolutely need a second one." Then Meno reached the movement passive. [Airwalk Tyrant] After jumping, you may kick off empty air up to 3 times before landing. After each kick, you may stand or move through air at your current elevation for 3 seconds. Jumping while airborne consumes 1 Airwalk kick and does not restore Airwalk kicks. Airwalk kicks are restored when you land. Augmented: Arrival While airborne, gain 100% increased Movement Speed and Jump Power.
Jump Power also boosts Airwalk kick strength. Meno's doubts about Tyrant disappeared.
"YES!" Chat was already imagining disaster. HE CAN WALK ON AIR NOW HOW DOES HE KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS ARRIVAL AUGMENT IS INSANE AIRWALK MOVEMENT TECH INCOMING THE SKY IS NOT SAFE"That's pretty much juiced False Wings plus Splitwing combined, except I can literally stand or move in the air for 3 seconds after each kick." His pending Level 70 Augmentation had also become Arrival, doubling Movement Speed and Jump Power while airborne and boosting kick strength on top.
Meno was already imagining Cannon Infernal -style positioning without the Cannon.
"Even the augmentation is good. Love that. Tyrant was worth it just for this." One passive remained. [Weapon Master Tyrant] One-handed melee weapons can Deflect attack and spell projectiles. Two-handed melee weapons gain 100% increased Weapon Size. Ranged attacks gain 100% increased Projectile Speed and are Unblockable. While Dual-Wielding, you are immune to movement-impairing effects. While holding a Shield, reduce area damage taken by 50%. Meno laughed.
"No way. Math boss is back." The old Weapon Master had been one of the most disappointing passives he had ever seen. This version was not.
"Weapon Master, but actually good this time." Chat immediately started pointing out the interaction he had already noticed. ANNIHILATOR GETS ALL OF IT ONE HAND TWO HAND DUAL WIELD COUNTS GIANT SWORD + DEFLECT + IMMUNITY THROW IT FOR RANGED BONUS TOO??? SHIELD SWAP 50% AOE DR DEFLECT SOMETHING FOR ONCE PBG THORN CALL INC 3 2 1"Yes, I get it. Stop spamming."
Annihilator counted as one-handed, two-handed, and Dual-Wielding simultaneously, which meant the combined weapon inherited nearly all of Weapon Master's bonuses at once.
"One-handed means I can Deflect with it. Two-handed gives 100% Weapon Size. Dual-Wielding gives movement-impair immunity." The weapon throw also counted as ranged. That probably meant the projectile gained the speed increase and became Unblockable during the throw.
"Hundred-percent size on an Annihilator one-hander is cooked. Might be as long as my old Spire Sword depending on the base weapon." Quadrillionator did not count as Dual-Wielding, so it missed that part, but it inherited the one-handed, two-handed, and ranged category bonuses based on its own tooltip. The shield clause changed Meno's opinion on carrying one too.
"50% area damage reduction is actually worth swapping for if some boss is about to nuke the room." Then he remembered something.
"I literally just mailed my only shield to Oxy." Excellent timing.
"I'm going to need to buy so much stuff. Tyrant is poverty evolution for sure." TEN MILLION BOUNTY POVERTY BUILD BUY THREE WEAPONS AND A SHIELD BROKE BOY ASK OXY FOR THE SHIELD BACK LMAO PBG doesn't even know what Deflect is bro never deflected in his life DEFLECT FIRST THEN SHOP Chat refused to let the Deflect issue go.
"I'm going to Deflect you out of my chat if you don't stop spamming it. Yes, I have never Deflected anything ever. You're right. I'm a noob. Deflect is probably too hard for me." That only made it worse.
"So I'm going to farm you without it." HE ADMITTED IT confirmed deflect denier SKILL ISSUE TYRANT guy in chat got cooked FIRST PROJECTILE MISSED CLIP INCOMING deflect training arc when Meno closed the class window for a moment and let the whole thing settle. Tyrant was definitely busted. Titan had given him a universal 10% execute, and since the Subclass had not been removed, he still had it. Even so, Titan had never shown anything on the level of a Divine active.
Tyrant also had far more upfront power than Infernal. A permanent 1, 000 Chain floor meant he started every fight with enormous damage, and the weapon-combination abilities opened item interactions that normal classes simply could not create. It was not better at everything. Old Swing Master had built Chain faster during very long fights. Tyrant appeared limited by Quadrillionator's 10-second cooldown unless another source of Massive weapons existed.
But most fights did not last forever, and starting at 1, 000 Chain mattered more.
"Tyrant is definitely stronger than my original Swing Master build. Not by some insane amount, though." He reopened Quadrillionator.
"I guess that only matters on really long fights. Starting with 1, 000 permanent Chain means almost everything normal is already dead." The Massive weapon system was the part he wanted to test most: different combinations, different item modifiers, and different results based on weapon types. That wording was begging to be abused. Meno looked up at Excrino, who had silently watched the entire build review like a god with nothing else scheduled.
"I can't wait to see what the Massive weapon thing actually does." Excrino finally spoke.
"Leave." Meno blinked.
"That's it? No more quests?"
"Slay." Meno opened his mouth to ask what he was supposed to slay, but Excrino moved before the question existed. One instant the god stood several steps away. The next, his enormous hand was wrapped around Meno. There was zero time to use Crownmind, Airwalk, or anything else he had spent the last several minutes getting excited about. Excrino threw him. Meno flew backward through the black portal so violently that the moon, pond, giant hand, and Hanged God all collapsed into darkness at once.
