Looking at Cecilia's color-drained face, I was sure that the moment I opened the box, she immediately felt the connection with the Heirflame. But she had no idea what it was, and currently, she was trying to understand what it was that made her body heat up like that.
"What is this?"
"This, my lady, is the help that you need to become a stronger and better version of yourself." Then I closed the box, gave her my hand, and helped her stand up.
"When you took out that rose, I felt something." She was still in a daze.
"What you felt was the resonance of your blood with the primal source." My eyes fell onto the tea that was on the floor. [Supreme Butler activated.] My body moved on its own. I took out my handkerchief, fell to one knee, and started to wipe the tea from the floor.
"What do you mean by primal source?" I didn't look up until the floor was as clean as it could be. Then I moved and flipped the table back, placing it in the perfect position that it had been in before. Then I moved the chair. Until everything looked exactly the same as before.
"Has your family ever told you about how they are able to produce individuals so powerful that in every generation they can shape the future of Ossraith?" Cecilia fell into deep thought before she spoke.
"Are you talking about the dragon blood in our veins?"
"Yes, my lady. How do you think the founder came to possess the blood of a dragon, a being which has no equal." The moment I came to this world with the knowledge I possessed gave me a great advantage in everything, but it was also like a double-edged sword. What if, for some reason, I said something to someone who was not supposed to hear that thing, or accidentally leaked information that I wasn't supposed to know. Which would bring me nothing but trouble.
So I need to think before I speak about anything to the people of this world.
"Get in possession of the blood? The Founding Father was born with the dragon blood by the blessings of the goddess." Hm... Do they not know about the Spirit of Eternal Flame? Or is the information not revealed to people until they are lord of the family or something. If I think about it, it does make sense not to give such information as common knowledge. Otherwise, they will start approaching the spirit for power. And that is a hell of a stupid thing to do.
"Slip of tongue, my lady. Apologies. Then do you know how exactly the blood of the founder works for his descendants?"
"If you are a male descendant of the Rosenkreuz family, your children almost certainly inherited the dragon blood at birth. And that dragon blood is what makes us powerful."
"If that's true, then how come the main bloodline is stronger than the branch family's blood when both of them share the dragon blood?" I then moved toward the door and opened it.
"Move with me, my lady." As she pondered over the question, we moved from the room. She followed behind me closely until we arrived at the training area. It was a large, open field. The sun was high, casting a warm, bright light on my skin, but it was too bright for my eyes. In the corner of my eye, I noticed a few female servants who were cleaning, staring at me with their mouths open. Are they drooling? Eww, disgusting.
"I never thought about that," Cecilia finally replied.
"I just thought that they simply weren't talented enough to get better, and that's why they are the branch family and not the main." It's not surprising that she never thought about why anyone would ever want to question their privilege.
"The dragon blood is something that is not unlimited for you who bear the gene of the founders."
"What is a gene?"
"Not something you should be bothered with right now. So, where was I." I moved a little, walking toward a nearby tree. It was not too big, just the height of 10 feet. I moved my hand and clutched a small branch of the tree.
"The founder possessed the primal source that was given by the goddess. As he had children, that gene was also inherited, and so was that dragon blood. And, as I said, dragon blood isn't unlimited."
"So when the descendant inherited that blood…" I snapped the branch.
"The inheritance gets broken from the source. And the more descendants that they have." then I break the branch once again." It gets divided more." I continued until one branch had been divided into so many small pieces.
"Until it gets divided into so many pieces that calling it dragon blood starts to sound wrong."
"That is one of the craziest things I have ever heard. What does that have to do with the rose?"
"You are a very impatient person. I am getting to it. Look at my feet." Her eyes narrowed.
"Why?" The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
"Just look at it." She unwillingly followed.
"Did you see?"
"See what exactly."
"My lady, I know I have long and manly legs, but please move your eyes down a bit more."
"Yes, I'm looking at the ground, not your leg." She sounded annoyed. My god, she is so dumb. Do I have to break down everything for her.
"You see the broken piece of that branch?"
"Yes."
"Look at that. Some of these pieces are longer than the other pieces."
"Yes."
"That is talent, my lady. It's true that the inheritance received from the founder has been divided way too many times, but there are still individuals who are born with more inheritance than others, and that is talent for you."
"And the more inheritance you have, the more chance you have to acquire even more of it. As the stronger you become, the more will you have to attract the primal source. The closer you are to the primal source, the more inheritance you get."
"And that is how it all works."
"And you, my lady, you are the child of the current Lord of the Rosenkreuz, who has been the closest to the primal source in all of history. You are his 9th child, so you have the most talent compared to anyone other than your elder siblings." It was a lie. In-game, it was proven that she inherited much more than any of her siblings ever did. But the problem was that she was so unaware of it that the entire inheritance became dormant at birth, or maybe because of some accident. It was never explained much.
That's why she needed something to awaken that inheritance, and the Heirflame was that method.
"So you are trying to say that the rose inside that box can help me get more inheritance."
"That is correct."
"But why?" She is suspicious of me. Ha... I came closer to her. She was smaller than me so I looked down at her.
"My lady, I know that you have been in pain for a very long time, and I don't like seeing you getting hurt like that."
"You want me to believe that you, a servant, are looking for my best interest."
"Indeed I am." She started laughing.
"Don't make me laugh. You people are all the same. You say that to my face, but who knows what bad things you will say behind my back."
"I won't even trust you. After all, how can a mere butler know all of this. How did you even get your hands on something like that rose. How can I even be sure you are not one of my brother's people?" She was throwing all the correct questions at me, and I had no answer. I couldn't just give her any answer, not the right one, nor could I convince her with words. If required, I would just have to use force. But I'm not sure force will work. She has to willingly accept the Heirflame for it to work.
"You can't," I said.
"Then forget it. If I can't trust you, I won't be letting you make me do anything." She was about to move and leave before I spoke again.
"You can't trust me. But you should trust your instinct. You felt it when you saw the rose, that it wasn't trying to harm you. You felt the connection, and you know you need it."
"So no, don't trust me. But trust your instinct."
"Because sometimes, one step is all that is needed to make a difference." She stood there, and I didn't say anything else either. I was offering her something that could give her strength, and she desperately wanted it. If she decided to walk away, I would just give the rose to the lord and have her taken out of exile. Then she moved her head back toward me, but this time her eyes were different. During the entire conversation, her eyes had been curious but skeptical of everything.
But right now, there was fire and hunger in them.
"I guess you made up your mind."
"After this, you tell me exactly how you got the rose." I nodded.
"Then let's start right now." I then told every single person to leave the training area and locked the entrance, as I didn't want anyone to witness what was happening.
"Please sit down." Then I removed my coat and hung it on the tree. I moved toward a nearby rack section. There were a bunch of pieces of equipment. And on the left rack, there were wooden utensils. I picked up a small bowl and placed it onto the table. Then I took out the Heirflame and carefully placed the blood rose into the bowl. The Heirflame is a rose dyed in the blood of the founder.
It was a very rare item that had somehow survived for a very long time, maybe because of the dragon blood it contained, or for some other reason. [Supreme Butler activated.] Then I started making a wet paste out of the rose. It took ten minutes of consistent grinding and mixing with a little water for it to become a paste. Then I added more water to make it more liquid and drinkable. Why was I doing this? The process that existed in the game was simple. Just click a button, and it would happen instantly.
But this is not a game. So it has to be a consumable item. After that, I will leave things to luck. I have a lot of it. I moved back to Cecilia, who was sitting calmly on the ground. I gave her the bowl.
"Here, drink this." She took the bowl and looked at what was inside.
"Are you sure it's not poisonous?" I didn't reply. There was no need for it. Then she brought the bowl closer to her lips.
"Couldn't you at least use a bowl from the kitchen." Oh my god, just drink it already. Seeing that I had no intention of talking, she sighed.
"Fine." She drank it and threw the bowl a little far away.
"Now what?" I have no idea. I'm just hoping it should work just like how it was supposed to work.
"Now we wait."
"..."
"What do you me…" Before she could finish the sentence, she clutched her stomach. Her eyes started to bulge as she fell to the ground. Then she screamed.
"Ahhhhhhh!"
After drinking the liquid, Cecilia suddenly felt heat spreading through her body. In just seven seconds, the heat became so intense that she lost consciousness. But the heat only lasted for no more than a few minutes. When she opened her eyes once again, she found herself lying on a grass field, staring up at the open sky. She slowly sat up.
"Ahh... What happened?" She looked around but couldn't find Edwin anywhere.
"So it was a trap." She took a deep breath.
"I shouldn't have fallen for that man's words. Now I have no idea where he left me." Then she stood up.
"Just you wait. Once I return, I will make you pay." She started looking around.
"Where exactly am I?" Rumble... All of a sudden, the entire ground started to shake. The earth tore itself apart as a massive claw emerged from beneath the ground.
"What is going on?" Cecilia panicked and immediately started to run. But the ground was being torn apart even faster. Mud and earth rose high into the air as the ground itself was pushed nearly two to three hundred feet into the sky. Cecilia couldn't get away in time and was sent flying. Slowly, as the earth began to fall back from the sky, a shape started to take form. Something had emerged from underground.
Far from the destruction, Cecilia launched a large piece of earth above her and managed to escape from beneath it. When she finally looked at the thing that had caused all of this, a cold sweat broke out across her back. Her will to even look at the creature in front of her instantly vanished. She fell to her knees, not even daring to breathe. Then the wind moved. Suddenly, she felt scorching hot air against her skin. Rrrrr...
"Nathaniel, you insolent brat. You dared to awaken me again!" Just hearing the being's voice caused Cecilia immense pain in her head. And rightfully so, as the being in front of her was none other than a dragon.
