After receiving Mei Magogoko's reply, Yamaguchi Mura Chicken practically burst with joy. His feelings for her, which had fractured and nearly broken, had rebuilt themselves stronger than ever. What a girl. The moment she heard he was in trouble, she set out from Sakura Island No. 6 Starter Village without a second's hesitation. It was proof. Mei Magogoko still deeply loved him. The livestream incident, those seven or eight players, all of it, just an accident. She'd done what she had to do to survive. To reach him.
"Yoshi! Two more hours and I'm back in the game. This time — I swear — I'm finding somewhere to hide and staying there. Those damn monsters are not killing me again!" Mei Magogoko was waiting for him. That thought alone filled Yamaguchi Mura Chicken with iron resolve.... Silvermoon Forest Dragon's Lair. A full day and night had passed. The tremors rolling through Su Nian's body had gradually stilled, but he showed no signs of waking. Anna had counted the scales on his body twice.
There were a total of black dragon scales. The pale red ones that grew tangled among the barbs she hadn't counted, mostly because they were nearly impossible to tally properly. She could only guess at the rough number. She counted and wiped at the same time. By the end, every scale on the Black Dragon's body gleamed spotlessly clean. And then, because she had nothing left to do, she wove herself a small pink flower crown and set it on the Black Dragon's enormous head.
"Hehe. Cute~""Brother, when are you going to wake up? Anna really, really misses you..." With nothing left to occupy her hands, Anna propped her chin up and lay beside him, her peach-blossom eyes fixed on the sleeping dragon with an expression full of longing. In just two days, the Black Dragon's body had swelled like an inflating balloon, faster than she could track. The head she used to be able to barely hug, arms stretched wide, was now so large that reaching halfway around it took real effort. Night came.
Outside, rain had recently passed, and a cold, damp wind swept in from the cave mouth, howling through in a long, shivering gust. Anna flinched and burrowed into the warmth of Su Nian's side.
"Will brother catch a cold? It's so cold..." She sniffled and reached up to stroke the nearest scales. They were icy to the touch. She wriggled free, padded across the cave floor, and dragged the bearskin mat back with her. Stolen story; please report.
"Brother is so big. The mat is so small." She tilted her head, thinking it over. Then she draped the bearskin mat over the Black Dragon's great skull.
"Mom always said getting wind on your head at night gives you a cold. And wind on your belly gives you a chill." She settled herself down alongside Su Nian's midsection, curling up against it.
"Anna will protect brother's belly from here. That way we only need to cover the head. Hehe~" Her soft, drowsy murmuring drifted through the empty cave and faded into nothing. Anna had fallen asleep, curled up small against the Black Dragon's side. With his massive head half-smothered under a brown bearskin mat, Su Nian cut a profoundly undignified figure.
The fearsome Black Dragon, terror of the desert and sovereign of monsters, looked less like an apex predator and more like a nervous bride about to be ushered into the wedding chamber. Nobody saw it, fortunately. Only the stars overhead, pushing through the parting clouds, smiled down and quietly took note.... Asleep, Su Nian knew nothing of any of this. His dragon lineage inheritance was drawing to a close, approaching its final chapter: the inheritance of Draconic Magic.
But somewhere in the process, something unexpected happened. He didn't just awaken a fragment of magical ability, he was seized by a mysterious force and dragged into an unknown space entirely. A world built from purple crystal. It stretched around him in every direction, faceted and luminous. And coiled before him, enormous beyond reckoning, was a pink dragon. Her eyes were deep blue, clear, still, and impossibly bright, like a glassy lake in high summer, like open sky.
Something inside Su Nian recognized her immediately. His ancestor. Conner Nai'olide Waterhouse Stupak. Measured against her, Su Nian's ten-meter frame was nothing. One of her wings alone could have thrown half a city into shadow.
"You..." [You carry the bloodline of me and him... very pure.] No voice reached his ears. The great dragon simply lay coiled, her gaze warm and quiet. But her will arrived in Su Nian's mind with perfect clarity, as though she had always been there. [I shall grant you a unique inheritance. Survive. Drive them from the homeland that belonged to me and him.] A purple crystal condensed in the air before her, drifted forward, and came to rest in front of Su Nian. Then the world exploded.
Everything shattered like a window hit by a baseball, and a tremendous force hurled Su Nian clean out of the space. Like being kicked through a door.
"What the..." Su Nian blinked, momentarily dazed. His ancestor was, apparently, a woman of singular character. She pulled him in without warning, delivered her message, and bounced out immediately after, not even a parting word about what was actually inside the crystal."'Them' probably means the players," he muttered, scratching at his claw.
"To be honest, I was going to drive them out anyway." He approached the floating crystal carefully. It pulsed with a soft purple glow, radiating an air of quiet mystery. What even is this thing? Every instinct told him he should swallow it. That was clearly the intended move. Logically, as a dragon who prided himself on caution, the correct play was to throw it as far away as possible. But his ancestor wouldn't harm him. He'd felt it clearly in that brief moment: her warmth, her goodwill, directed straight at him.
So Su Nian didn't waste another thought. He raised his claw and crushed the crystal. Hmph. As a powerful mutant dragon with a System, all potential threats had to be neutralized at the source. What if his ancestor was trying to possess him? As it turned out, Su Nian had been overthinking it. Considerably. Because for certain powerful beings, when they decide to give you something, your opinion on the matter is irrelevant. The gift arrives whether you want it or not.
The crushed crystal dissolved instantly into a streak of purple light, and shot straight into Su Nian's body.
