Chương 109: That Man
I Can See Health Bars [OP MC/LitRPG/Zombie Apocalypse/Eldritch] · LaTiao · 201 chương · ~16 phút đọc · Tạo 05/07/2026
Although Bruno said he would bring up the rear, aside from using his crowbar to hook away a few corpses that got stuck in the wheels, he didn't actually help much. Almost all the zombies in the complex lunged at them from the front, only to fall beneath the spears of these four people. Of course, the ones primarily responsible for the kills were the two women in the front. Not only was that superpowered little girl formidable, but even the beautiful woman, Claire, was no simple character.
Her strikes were ruthless, fast, and precise. Although the dumpster moved very slowly, its zombie-killing efficiency was exceptionally high. In just twenty short minutes, they had already killed thirty or forty zombies.
"Hey, beautiful... Miss Claire..." Bruno suddenly spoke up from behind the cart, calling out to the group. Feeling a bit of apprehension in his heart, he asked, "There are hundreds of zombies gathered under that building up ahead. Are we really just going to march right over?" Claire looked toward the distance. That was exactly Building 26, where her apartment was. Although the sun was a bit glaring, by squinting her eyes, she could still faintly see a dark silhouette standing on the rooftop...
Despite having fought for so long that her arms were aching and swollen, she confidently turned her head back, looked at Bruno, and said:"Our destination is exactly there. If you're worried, Bruno, you can wait here for a bit. We'll come call you once we finish clearing them out..." Hearing this, Bruno felt that he was truly lacking in confidence. A single woman leading three young people who were clearly in their early twenties dared to go, so how could a grown man with boundless strength like him be so cowardly?
He smashed his crowbar heavily onto the ground.
"Alright! Let's go!" Saying that, he stopped walking in the back. He wiped the sweat from his hands onto his clothes, readied his crowbar, and took a few quick steps to arrive at the side of the dumpster. Forming a flanking position with Claire and the others, he figured that when the chaotic melee started, they should still be able to look out for each other...
Looking at the hundreds of zombies wandering in the shadows of the building ahead, it wasn't just Claire and Zoe; even Cody and Seth in the back couldn't help but gulp nervously.
"Claire... what do we do..." Zoe whispered to Claire beside her.
"I... I don't know... Vince just said to come straight here... We'll play it by ear. Be ready to 'Retract' at any moment..." Looking at the zombie horde before her, Claire subconsciously tightened her grip on her heavy spear."'Retract'? Then what about him?" Zoe asked quietly from the side.
"He's an Awakened, he won't die that easily..." Claire had no confidence in her heart either, but she still chose to believe in Vince. Meanwhile, Bruno's attention was focused entirely on those zombies downstairs from beginning to end, completely oblivious to that dark silhouette on the rooftop... As the distance closed, the zombies near the outer edge naturally heard the squeaking of the "Moving Castle". They turned around one after another, shambled closer, and then began to sprint towards them!...
Cody had left the walkie-talkie on continuous transmission mode, so Vince heard every single word of their conversation.
"This Claire..." Vince couldn't help but chuckle to himself. If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. The guy was preparing to coordinate with them, yet she was ready to sell him out at a moment's notice. She definitely had a bit of his own style. However, as the group entered his field of vision, he also saw the wild Awakened they had been talking about...
Although he couldn't clearly see his face, judging by the Health Bar, he could determine this was the exact same person who had tried to talk him out of jumping off the building earlier. Putting two and two together, he naturally understood what the man's earlier words meant. Turns out, I am the organization... He watched as the zombies downstairs were alarmed by them, the outer layers already beginning to swarm and surround their group.
Vince swung the heavy spear in his hand, loosened up his muscles, and leaned forward. Both feet kicked viciously off the roof ledge as he leaped into the air. Raising his heavy spear high, he smashed down straight toward the very center of the zombie horde! BOOM! Whether it was the group in the "Moving Castle" or Bruno, just as they were raising their weapons preparing to meet the enemy, a sudden, deafening explosion erupted! Something unknown had crashed into the center of the horde.
Dirt and stone flew everywhere. Several zombies near the impact zone were instantly pulverized into bloody chunks, their severed limbs soaring over everyone's heads and landing far in the distance!
"Holy fuck! What was that! A meteorite?" Bruno's hands, raised high with the crowbar, froze in mid-air. The zombies that had originally started charging at them were attracted by this massive explosion, turning their heads and swarming toward the epicenter instead!
"It's Vince! Zoe, let's keep moving forward!"
"Okay!" Claire immediately made a judgment call. It was Vince actively drawing the zombies' aggro. No matter what he planned to do, their group absolutely had to keep up!
"Eh? You guys are still going forward?" Seeing the people inside the dumpster start moving forward again, Bruno was completely baffled. Although he didn't know what had fallen from upstairs, a crash of that magnitude would have smashed even him into a bloody paste. Weren't they just going to get surrounded and slaughtered like dumplings the moment the zombies turned their attention back?
"Damn it... are they a bunch of lunatics..." Bruno tightened his grip on his crowbar and slowly backed away. Just as he was calculating whether he could still run back to that building, he saw the swarming zombies suddenly "move"! It wasn't just "move," they flew into the air! The dozen or so zombies at the very center had already surrounded whatever fell down.
But in the blink of an eye, several of their bodies were blasted into the air by some sort of immense force, hurtling upward and crushing a whole swathe of zombies behind them!
"Claire! Zoe! I'll scatter the horde! You guys kill them!" A man's voice roared from the center of the horde. Immediately after, a silhouette violently rammed through several zombies blocking its path, bursting straight out of the swarm! With a casual swing, the heavy spear in his hand cleaved two zombies cleanly in half at the waist, sending them crashing to the ground! The man charged out of the zombie horde, turned his head, saw him, frowned, and said in an impatient tone:"You, the big guy...
if you're just going to stand there dazed, get far away! If you want to help, lure some zombies and run laps around that building!" Bruno looked at the man standing before him like a descending war god. Even though he had clearly never met him before, he felt the man's silhouette was inexplicably familiar... Where did this guy... come from? The sky? Is that... their leader?! But for some unknown reason, facing this man, the tremendous strength he had been so proud of recently felt incredibly insignificant.
He even subconsciously obeyed the man's order. Bruno let out a bizarre scream—"Ahhh!" —attracting the attention of thirty or forty zombies, then turned and bolted toward the building on the side!... Seeing that the burly wild Awakened actually listened to his order and lured a bunch of zombies away to run laps, Vince was also taken aback for a second.
"This guy is surprisingly honest..." First, he tried to talk him out of jumping off the building, then he actively followed Claire's group over here. Although he saw the man shrinking back a bit from upstairs just now, that was human nature. Who wouldn't run in this situation? If it were him, he would've hesitated too... But he didn't expect him to actually obediently go lure the zombies away. This alleviated a lot of the pressure on Vince.
That entrance just now might have looked badass, but only he himself knew that in those few short seconds, his mind had switched between four different Crystals no less than ten times... With every dash forward, he switched to [Strength] and then immediately swapped to [Armor]; with every dodge, he switched to [Swiftness] and then swapped back to [Strength] or [Revitalization] as needed...
This was the only way Vince ensured he wasn't grabbed by the countless hands within the horde and pinned down under a pile of bodies. But now that he had burst out, things were much simpler. He didn't even need to equip a Crystal; relying purely on his base physical attributes, Vince could maneuver with ease along the perimeter of the horde. As for the heavy spear, Vince had made his decision the moment before he jumped. Embedded in its interface module was the [Impact Crystal] he had just obtained.
And that strike just now—falling like a comet striking the moon—was the combined result of the Strength Crystal's power and the Impact Crystal equipped on the heavy spear!
