"Mer-ci-ful""Whi-ms-!" I let out a tsk out of my mouth at my error, before licking my llps and trying again "Whi-stle" You're wondering what I'm doing? You know what I'm doing. Stop lying. This was shameful as fuck. My frown gets bigger as I look up at the sky, my cloak hood protecting me from the rain. Why am I so embarrassed? I mean. That's not... that bad. And I mean yes, logically speaking, there's some problems with sounding like a dumbass when my entire goal was to look more intimidating than...
what I am right now. But... it's not that bad, everything worked. The illusions, the voice, the light, the shadow, everything worked and I now have an opportunity to give my mother a job. Even if he's kind of suspicious. I think? Not too sure, he looked more confused than anything. As if you just realized that the most terrifying thing in the entire world liked chocolate milk and candies. That's how he looked like. But like, that's not what bothers me for real.
Even if he gets suspicious or try to do something, well, first off he has no proof, and secondly, a second under constant and infinite agonizing pain will shut him up, he'll shut up when I put him through so much pain he'll foam at the mouth and beg for forgiveness but realize he can't, he can't because he doesn't have enough control over his lips and he's helpless and he's so fucking weak and he's not intimidating at all now that he's writhing on the ground. He won't dare to do anything against me after that.
Well, if he even tries to do anything. So... really. What's the problem? My hand comes up to keep my hood tight around my head. Really tight, my face is hot, constantly hot for no reason, NO THAT'S NOT BECAUSE I'M EMBARASSED! I feel like a child and that pisses me off. And the fact that I'm getting pissed off makes me feel immature and now I'm feeling even more pissed off.
I keep my hands together and play with them, rubbing my wet hands, but it doesn't work well so I put a hand in one of my numerous pocket and take out a kunai. Without any hesitation I put the handle hole around my index and start twirling it around, doing some funny tricks I figured out during long nights. Two seconds later. My shoulders relax, and I can finally stop thinking about whatever the fuck happened an hour ago. Finally I can focus on what's in front of me. Two guys talking under an inclined roof.
One of them is a guy of average height, scar on his face, and pretty long locks that reach the back of his neck, saw him in Murai shop He's talking to a taller and leaner man, this man has a big nose, but like a BIG nose. I'll call him nosy. The other is scarred. Or scars. But when I think of scars I think of the lion king and the guy isn't badass enough, maybe if he shows a real good singing skill I will. Otherwise. Love this story?
Find the genuine version on the author's preferred platform and support their work! The guy is 'scarred' Actually. Why not scarry? Yeah, let's go with that. Thinking about music makes me feel a bit shitty. Singing especially, doubt I could think well with my talking skills. That's annoying. I need to train my talking, WHY DID I THOUGHT I'D BE ABLE TO TALK WELL AFTER NEVER PRACTICING JAPANESE! Well, I did...
But like, I mean My main talking practice was made outside when I talked back to the angry villagers, but since I learned how to go invisible, I kind of just stopped talking. And I never really mastered how to talk. And I just tried to use the difficult words I learned in the books Okari gave me without practicing them out loud. Japanese is hard okay? When I was younger I was talking in the only way I knew how, by imitating the people I heard talking.
But since I got this pile of books, I kind of realized that Japanese is even harder than I thought. There's multiple ways to say the same thing you know? And I've been learning a lot of those ways, there's like a loooot of nuances and tones someone can use, so basically you can say the same word: 'banana' and in function of how you intone it and nuance it 'banana' can mean and be pronounced as 'ice cream' and not 'banana' Cause. Japanese's crazy I guess.
My first mistake was my GENERAL way of talking, to be honest, I didn't even NOTICE it, because it was how I always talked! I didn't notice it but everyone around me, pretty much everyone is polite. And so. I've been talking very. Fucking. Politely. That's probably one of the reason I could mellow out some of the old bastards that didn't like me, and why Hatomo or Okari helped me that much. I've been a polite cute kid. The thing is that TO BE POLITE, and TO TALK CASUALLY.
The intonation and the way you talk and move your tongue must be different, the sound you produce are different. Even if in the end you say "Hello" in both cases. Saying it politely may give out the sound "ga" But saying it casually may give out the sound "sa" That's something I learned in those books. And that's something I've understood. Logically. Not instinctively though. So like... when I was with Murai, and woke up from my daze, of him, TALKING ABOUT ME BEING GOD FOR LIKE AN HOUR!
I remembered all of my reading practice, I remembered the intonations, and I decided to talk casually. Because being polite didn't fit. At first it went pretty well. Probably because I've been practicing it with my mother. But then I noticed that he was confused at the way I was being casual. SO LIKE! I THOUGHT! Oh! I probably need to talk like youta, or my grandfather, like an arrogant asshole superior prick. So I did it.
AND THEN I STARTED STUMBLING WITH MY WORDS BECAUSE I NEVER TALKED TO SOMEONE OR OUT LOUD WITH THIS KIND OF INTONATION! And when he started correcting me and shit I was like. Fuuuuck. Just. I just went back to casual in the end. Gave up and left the fuck out of here. Didn't even try to use complicated words. Just. Bailed the fuck out. That's what made me mess up. I slide closer to the edge of the roof and tend my ear closer to listen at what they're talking about. But the real question is why I'm that embarrassed?
Why? My hands tighten against the edge of the building, ready to make me slide down as I hear "Doesn't matter, I'll deal with it, just try to stop him from getting more clients, crowd the street, piss him off, just be a nuisance, he'll turn around one of those days""If he doesn't?"
"I'll figure out something then, no need to be violent..."
"I don't agree" Scarry the scarred man sighs loudly before looking up at big tall nose, nosy "I know, I know, we already talked about it, we'll do it if he keeps being stubborn" Well. Looks like owning a monopoly brings attention. Bad attention. Sliding down the side of the house I was perching on, one hand behind me, one free, and two feet sliding me down, I reach the ground safely and start sliding closer to them. Looks like my monopoly is in danger.
And I really need this monopoly, may need to do something about those guys. The weight of my crossbow, stuck on my back, is heavier than usual. One hand above my fist. Water gathers at my fingertip. Throw it at scarry. He barely flinches, used to the splatter of the rain in my constantly raining village. I do it again on nosy. He reacts the same. It takes some time, but my magic spreads into their skin, slowly, but surely. Two more salves and they'll be under my influence. You're trying to take my monopoly?
We'll see. Without even noticing it. My embarrassment. The blush of embarrassment on my face that popped out whenever I thought about what happened a' hour ago is gone. Totally gone. I don't know why, but I don't think about why. The only thing I can and know is that I will stalk those people. I will learn everything about them. I will subduct them if need be. And no matter what they do or try, unless they're the luckiest people alive, or the most careful people alive, which they are not. They will not win.
Talking is hard. Comparing people to animals is so easier. I don't need to talk to them.
