My entire body snaps back to dodge a bite, I gain more speed, using the momentum from my fall, I stay back and weave around trees. Messing with his sense of direction, lowering myself and sliding backward to keep my eyes on it, I find the best trees to slide around and do just that, going left, left, right, left, right, in an unpredictable pattern that keeps me off the serpent reach.
It tries it's best to eat me, standing tall and shifting around the ground at a speed that's frankly ridiculous for it's size, it twists around trees too, but everytime it reaches back to prepare a snapping bite toward me, my feet send me dodging in the opposite direction, zigzagging. We turn around each other, it's trying to eat me, I'm trying to protect myself by being unpredictable and putting obstacles through his path.
The snake is gigantic, utterly gigantic, if I didn't think I was in a magical world after everything, EVERYTHING that happened, then here's the proof. Giant monster. One that c-! I slide around a tree, my heart beating through my chest as giant fangs dig inside a tree that sacrificed it's life to save me.
The small tree snaps in half into the giant snake mouth and it's grey and muted green patterns on it's scaly skin shift as it jerks away from me as if it got burned, letting out a loud hiss as wooden splinters penetrate the inside of it's mouth that could literally gobble me up without any fucking problem Without any hesitation, the second it's distracted and not tracking me with those big elongated eyes, I bolt. Empty crossbow in my left hand.
Hair flying behind me because of how fast I'm going, I stop staring at the thing and use all the momentum I managed to keep while weaving around trees and redirect everything into straight forward speed, exactly on time to dodge a pothole. The trees around me start blurring. Highway speed. As my legs widen to dodge a rock. As I lean forward to gain even more speed and dodge a low branch before jumping over a small crater from the napalm that fell, I realize something. Right now. Any. Single. Mistake.
Would turn me into minced meat. Genuinely. If right now I didn't turn my body on the side to brush against the tree and bumped my shoulder against it instead, my torso would have fucking imploded, well, maybe it would just crumple into soft breakable meat before sending me roll diving into a ditch while the serpent feast on my corpse like I'm a little snack, a little candy.
If I didn't arch my back to pass under a low branch right now, if I didn't circle around obstacles, if I didn''t jump over bushes, if I didn't.... I would have died. Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Wait. If I don't do that RIGHT NOW I WILL DIE! There's no maybe. Or maybe not. Or "magic" I'm two years old. I'm sliding on the ground at 100 km/h more or less, at the speed of a fucking car in the middle of a highway, there's no "maybe" or whatever. No.
If I let one pebble mess with my sliding and make me fall down no amount of sliding will save me. Even then. My foot pushes against the ground and give me even more speed. Looking over my shoulder for just a second, I see the inside of a throat. A pink throbbing constricting throat, giant fangs brushing just against my back as the snake bite around the edge of my cloa-! And nothing else as I send myself flying a second after his bite. Jumped.
Before my hands can slam against the ground, my waist twist and I manage to get back on the ground on my own two feet instead, albeist in a weird twisted position that's close to a split, turning around in this position and using the end of that turn that's starting to daze me to push me even faster, I reach the fastest speed I ever reached while sliding.
Turning around all the trees I see, my ankles start to burn because of how fast I'm demanding them to move, tears slide down my cheek even when I blink them away, the wind is way too strong, I take a big breath but find myself choking on the air instead, just like what you would feel if you hung you head off a car window going crazy fast and took a breath. I'm genuinely going too fast. Nonetheless, I keep going.
My shoulder slams into a bush but by going lower and keeping my weight closer to the ground, I blast through the bush. My hands are up to protect my face, but even then, I go diving uncontrollably to the right as a meaty and strong impact on my left side rips the breath out of me. A cute sound of agony reaches my ear. On my left. The edge of my right foot drag on the ground, sliding on rocks and trying to keep me from barrelling who knows where.
As I push back against the rocks, my body get twisted to the left and I can see the source of the sound in the edge of my vision. A rabbit. It's flying. In the sky. Holy shit, my right hand comes to cradle my left ribs, rabbits are heavier than I thought. Looking over my shoulder, I don't see the serpent anymore. Well. I see the mess I left behind. And the edge of a green and grey snake sliding around trees, entering ravines and popping out of them to hunt me down, but he's too slow compared to me.
My body circle around a hole. Then another one, and weave around a piece of rubble. Then... there's... a lot of holes, way more than usual. Wait. My gaze comes forward again. In front of me. A massive crater. As if a meteorite landed here, too big for me to see the end of it, it comes down like a giant hole, filled with rubble and nonsensical holes in all sort of shapes, carved down by pure hotness.
My head turns around to look at the serpent, getting closer and closer while crawling over the rubble I need to dodge, because he just can. Then I look back at the crater.. A gigantic crater that cannot be slid around because it's simply too big, if someone tried to go around it, it would take a shit ton of time, less for me considering my speed, still, a snake may be an animal but I don't know if giant snakes are smarter, could easily ntercept me mid turn since my path is predictable. It can also just...
go through it and take the fastest path while I'll need to take a detour. My hand comes to push hair out of my eyes, my palm comes back with a hint of blood. I'm bleeding. I'm being chased by a snake that can snap trees in half. And my entire body is blasting toward a crater, a territory the snake would prefer to fight on. Even admist all of that. The only thing I do is put my crossbow on my back before it breaks, sticking it there, then, I make sure my cloak is tight around me and won't fall.
And finally, I scratch an itch on my cheek, not panicking. Why? Because it's not the first time this happened. And today, I'm killing a giant snake.
