After that, seeing her completely enthusiastic, I ended up being taught various things about magic. Magic can be used by utilizing a "universal element" called Mana. Mana occupies about 70% of the air, and apparently, that's what creates the unique pale green sky. Creatures on this planet, to varying degrees, are equipped with mechanisms to utilize Mana. Humans also possess this property, and those with a strong affinity have the aptitude to be mages who manipulate Mana.
Magic Power is the numerical value of the aptitude for how much Mana one can take in and utilize. Alice apparently has a particularly high Magic Power value. While an ordinary person has a few dozen, and a general mage has several hundred to over a thousand, she apparently has 4, 500. Magic Power is largely determined by genetics and talent, but it can be improved to some extent through training. This is because the body gets used to taking in and using Mana.
Rarely, some people undergo drastic growth through this, so it seems effort isn't wasted either. I see. So when I used 《Volket》 earlier, the warm thing filling my body was Mana. I looked into her eyes. Clean eyes that know no filth. This girl has no hidden side, or rather, she doesn't look like the type to lie easily. I can probably trust her. I was also taught about Sacris. It's the name of the town she's heading to, also known as the "Town of Swords and Magic."
As the name suggests, it flourishes as a city famous for swordsmanship and magic. Among them, Sacris Magic Academy is said to be one of the world's leading prestigious schools that has produced countless excellent mages. Yet, despite being prestigious, it's not arrogant. Regardless of status such as commoner or noble, its doors are open equally to all who have an aptitude for magic. She plans to enter the girls' dormitory there and study magic thoroughly for four years.
She told me with a smile about her dream of opening a magic classroom in her hometown of Nabock in the future.
"By the way, Yu. I had something to ask you."
"What is it?"
"Why were you doing something so reckless as being all alone in the middle of the Plains of Death?"
"That is..." Now, what should I say? I was in a bind. If I say I came from another planet, she'll definitely think I'm crazy. Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. Or rather, that place had such a dangerous name as the Plains of Death? No wonder I thought there was nothing there. While I was struggling to come up with a good excuse, she put her hand on her chin and continued while staring intently at my face.
"With that hair color, and those unusual clothes. You're not from around here, are you?"
"Yeah. I was traveling from a foreign land in search of a new life, but I got completely lost." I took inspiration from "not from around here." I answered while inwardly mocking myself for how smoothly lies came out of my mouth.
"Even so, getting lost that badly is a bit much. But I guess it makes sense. Not knowing about magic, you must be from a really remote frontier."
"Well, something like that." She seemed a little skeptical about some parts, but she didn't pry any further. Eventually, the scent of civilization wafted from the end of the grassland. Stone buildings lined up in the distance. At a glance, it looked like a traditional European cityscape. As we got closer, the appearance of the town became clearer. One clock tower stood out tall and towering, and I could faintly hear it ringing a clear bell sound. It was impossible, but it felt as if it were welcoming me.
Aln let out a cry and began to descend slowly. As the large street paved with mouse-colored stones approached, I saw what looked like streetlights standing at regular intervals. Is this also utilizing magic? Perhaps the civilization level is much higher than I imagined from the cityscape.
"We've arrived. This is Sacris." Alice exhaled a "Phew," looked around, and then winked at me.
"I'm going to my aunt's house now. I plan to stay there until I enroll."
"I see."
"What are you going to do now?"
"I just arrived in a new land, after all. I'll think about it little by little. I'll also consider that magic school you mentioned."
"Yup. I'm expecting you to."
"Thanks for the ride. I'll repay you for this someday properly." I don't have much money on me right now. I have no particular plan, but as long as I reach a town, there should be plenty of ways to survive. I started from nothing and survived on Earth too. First, I'll get some food somehow. A place to sleep can come later. Gathering information comes first. Just as I was about to turn my heel coolly. Guuuuuuuuuuuuu. An oversized sound generated from my stomach and echoed loudly.... What timing.
A few moments of silence enveloped the place.
"... See you."
"Wait." With a scary serious face, she grabbed my shoulder firmly.
"Come to think of it, you were stranded, weren't you? You acted so fine that I completely forgot. How long haven't you eaten?"
"Let's see. About three days, I guess." My emergency rations ran out midway too. Alice was furious.
"Hah!? Are you an idiot!? Do you plan to die? You don't know your left from your right, what were you really planning to do!"
"Well, I thought I'd manage somehow." When I answered lightly, Alice let out a long sigh of utter exasperation.
"Come to my place."
"Eh?" At the utterly unexpected offer, I unintentionally asked back in my natural voice. I think it sounded quite stupid myself.
"I said, come to my place. I can't leave you alone, can I? I hate it. Dying on the street after we finally met."
"But, I can't impose that much..."
"It's fine! I'll talk to my aunt properly! Staying for a while until your life settles down is no problem." Persuading me with a strong tone, she seemed to have no intention of backing down even a step. She intends never to give up until I nod. Looking at her eyes staring at me with concern, I finally gave in and said.
"Then, please."
"Very well." She nodded approvingly and showed a relieved smile. The emotions faintly transmitted through the'World of Heart' were only relief and joy, and I couldn't think there was any ulterior motive. Since a while ago, what on earth is this woman? No way. I was taken aback. Do they really exist? People who are just genuinely good-natured. For me, who had lived in a dog-eat-dog world until now, it was a terribly shocking realization.
"Nice to meet you for the time being." Seeing the two fingers held out again without learning her lesson, I was convinced this time that it was indeed a greeting to deepen friendship. Ah. No good. It feels like my pace is being disrupted.
"Yeah. Nice to meet you." I intertwined my two fingers tightly with hers. The fingers with human blood running through them were filled with a warmth I hadn't felt for a long time.
