In a pitch-black void, countless white particles floated gently, each emitting a faint glow. I drifted aimlessly through a place that resembled a sea of stars. While holding a detached expectation for where I was headed, I was somewhat captivated by the sight. Well, it was beautiful, I'll give it that. It seemed grander than anything I had ever seen before. I remembered a picture of the Milky Way I once saw in a space encyclopedia.
If that river of stars truly existed, being swept along its currents would probably feel something like this. As I drifted, I felt a strange sensation—as if something vast in both quality and quantity was flowing into me. It felt as if my very existence was being remade into something entirely different. Eventually, perhaps nearing my destination, I emerged back into normal space. Before my eyes, a single planet appeared. I couldn't tell its exact size, but it didn't seem much different from Earth.
There were oceans and landmasses, and judging by the clouds, there was an atmosphere too. However, there was one major difference from Earth. The entire planet was colored a pale emerald green. Before I knew it, I had landed on the ground, my body fully materialized once again. It seemed I had arrived. Looking around, I found myself in an idyllic plain stretching as far as the eye could see. Everywhere I looked, the same knee-high grass grew densely.
There were no buildings, no trees, and no signs of living creatures. It was eerily quiet. Taking a deep breath, I smelled the faint sweetness of the grass. I immediately checked myself to see if anything strange had happened during the drift. It seemed my body and clothes were all intact. Looking up, the sky was the same pale emerald green as the planet itself. A star very similar to the sun shone brightly, illuminating the sky. So, just as Ena said, unbelievably, I really had come to another world.
I always thought I had some strange powers, but to think it would lead to such an outrageous situation. Though I don't know how much of what she said is true. Fate, huh? Suddenly, I recalled my path until now. Various events floated and vanished in my mind. What the hell is going on with my life? It's been turbulent so far, but it seems it's finally gone completely off the rails. Leaving that aside. What should I do now? For the time being, there's no point in standing still in a place with nothing around.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. I started walking slowly. There won't be any food in a grassland like this. First, I need to find a base for living. I'd prefer to find a place with people, but... it's doubtful whether "people" even exist in this world. First, information. I need to gather information on everything. If this is another world, acting with the same common sense as on Earth might not be the right move.
How long had I been walking, thinking about such things? The grassland continued endlessly. Not a single landmark could be found. Due to the glaring light of the sun-like star, I was drenched in sweat. This is bad. There really is nothing here. I took out a water bottle from my pocket and took just one sip. Just this water, and a little bit of emergency food. I have to make it last. Even after the sun set, I continued my march for a while. From space, it didn't look like this planet was only grasslands.
If I keep walking straight, I should reach the end eventually. Whether that happens before my stamina runs out is another story. I took a few hours of naps, and from the next day on, I just kept walking. But to conclude: there was nothing. The sun rose and set. I repeated that four times, but the endless grassland still continued. Thinking I might be able to eat it, I once picked some grass growing everywhere and nibbled on it. But I immediately judged it to be inedible.
Forcing myself to eat it would likely only result in diarrhea and water loss, so I spat it out immediately. I haven't touched it since. I was beginning to feel impatient. If I don't find anything... Will I die in a place like this? Without understanding anything, in a place like this? Here, I realized painfully that more than anything, I needed the pure power to survive. Not on an Earth level. But power sufficient to survive even in another world.
In cases like this, where I didn't land near a human settlement, survival is forced upon me. The place I landed first was a grassland, so I might still be lucky. If the place I landed was a desert. Or worse, on the ocean, not even land. I would have had no choice but to die helplessly. This is not Japan. Even on Earth, I didn't know my fate for tomorrow, let alone in another world where anything could happen. As I am now, I might not survive. I made a resolution. If I survive this, I will become stronger.
Strong enough to confidently deal with whatever world awaits me. I was on my way to Sacris, riding my beloved bird, Aln. Sacris Magic Academy. I couldn't wait for my new life there, so I was flying straight towards my destination over the Lasil Great Plains. Even so, there really is nothing here. It truly lives up to its name, the Plains of Death. It's a land contaminated with magical pollution where ordinary creatures can't live, and of course, humans can't use it either.
They say long ago, there was a great magical kingdom here. Apparently, a super-large-scale magic experiment failed, resulting in this state. It's a strange place where only a useless weed called Kissa has adapted to this environment and grows all over. That is the Lasil Great Plains. What a boring place. While thinking about such things, I casually looked down. And I found something unbelievable. I doubted my eyes. No way!? Someone is walking boldly in the middle of a place like this!
"Aln, I'm curious. Land near that person." Did he notice us? The figure stopped and seemed to be looking up at us. When we landed and got closer, it was a boy with a cute appearance. He seemed to be about the same age as me. And yet, strangely, he looked much more mature. It seemed due to his powerful yet somewhat cold eyes, and a strangely shadowy atmosphere. It was as if he had been living in a completely different world from me. Rare black hair, and clothes I've never seen before.
While feeling a slight, unidentifiable fear towards him, I asked out of curiosity.
"What are you doing in a place like this?" Then, he thought for a moment as if devising an excuse. Then he smiled troublingly and shrugged.
"Well, simply put, I was stranded."
"Ehh!? That's terrible!"
"I was just about prepared to die." As he said that, he didn't look like he felt as much of a crisis as his words suggested. As if he didn't mind dying if it came to that. Such a boy asked me with a polite demeanor.
"Sorry, but could you help me? Honestly, it's getting hard even to stand. Of course, I'll repay you later." Hearing that, I couldn't just leave him be.
"Sure. Aln, it'll be a bit heavy, but are you okay?" Aln chirped as if to say, 'Leave it to me.' Reliable as always. Thanks.
"Smart bird."
"His name is Aln. He's been my family since I was little."
"Heh. Family, huh..." When he said that, his eyes looked sad for just a split second. But he quickly returned to normal and stroked Aln's head with a gentle face.
"Aln. I'm counting on you." As long as I looked at that expression, I didn't feel any particular darkness. Rather, his inherent cuteness stood out, making him look wonderful. Maybe he's not as scary a person as my first impression suggested, I reconsidered. Thus, with the mysterious boy on board, we headed towards Sacris.
