Some random facts about parts of this story and why they are the way they are. Basically, my design notes. The planet name Surcease was inspired by a moment in the Dresden Files when Lara Raith essentially tempted Harry not with sex, but just being able to finally rest without pain. Mortal is conceptually based on the idea of 'what if the flying brick Superman analogue was a Cultivator but wasn't Goku a shounen manga protagonist'.
Conceptually, her visual design and aesthetic is based on a combination of Justice Lords! Diana and Mars Ravelo's creation Darna, but mechanically would function like Captain Marvel. The magical boy one. One of the ideas added to her character concept is also 'reverse isekai'. That is, someone from a world that would normally be an isekai destination being sent to Earth.
Xynodob is based on the idea of 'what if a hero had the powerset of a JRPG main villain', the kind that somehow has different forms that keep getting bigger and bigger for seemingly no reason. This includes inexplicable villain cutscene teleportation, always dark magic effects, and being able to spontaneously create minions. They're basically TOTK Ganondorf crossed with a SquareEnix final boss from the 2000's. Kaede/Stardancer is based on... well, a 2000's pre-Madoka magical girl protag.
Specifically, a fanfic version who got a certain magic wishing ring. This story is all based on an idea for an arc I had that I was never able to get around to writing. Pajhadin are based on a mashup of dark elves (the kind on the covers of TSR novels about the Underdark or dual-wielding good-aligned rangers) and Slenderman. The latter is why one of their forms of magic is Horotracting.
While DC (specifically the original DCAU) and Marvel (pre-90s comics, MCU, X-men animated and Spider-man: TAS) are part of the inspiration for the superhero backstory side of this story, other inspirations include Brandon Sanderson's Reckoners Trilogy, Marion Harmon's Wearing The Cape, negative amounts of Worm, Prototype, the original Battle Fantasia Project, and the big names of 90's and 2000's Magical Girl anime. No, I do not consider Ranma 1/2 a magical girl series.
On the space side, it's mostly based on Star Trek: Original Series but with a heavy influence of some of the Pocket Books novels, especially Diane Duane's stuff. There's also a touch of Next Gen and DS9, but no Voyager because I've never seen it, and from the stuff I've heard I don't think I want to. There's also a strong Lower Decks vibe in some parts, as well as a touch of Galaxy Quest and The Orville.
I'll say it here, because I don't think I'll be able to say it properly in the story: humans are having sex with any species with even vaguely compatible anatomy and don't have things liked spiked genitalia, and the sentiment is mutual. The reason is obvious: once you're either immunized against their STDs or the bacteria can't find purchase because the biology is too different, being from different species means almost no one can get pregnant.
Although various moral guardians of different species will accuse it of being some form of more immoral than usual (because it's purely for pressure and their's no possibility of offspring) or bestiality (though that's usually just the ultraracists). Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.
