Since receiving Freya's blessing she hadn't really played around with it. She laid next to her new patron god and… girlfriend. That felt weird but in a good way. She pulled up her stat sheet. Focused on the blessing and looked it over again. It made her smile again having Freya in there. It was time to play around with it. She started by going for a baseline with the Bodarex title. She assigned his blessing and added titles that would increase her Charisma just to get a maximum number.
With the clothes she wore and all of her titles assigned, she pushed the stat up to 118 which was in impressive amount considering she wasn't wearing anything specifically designed to buff Charisma. She could have tried to dig in and see how the math of the titles worked. Were they mulitiplicative, or additive. She didn't have the energy for that. She just went to Freya's blessing to see if adding just the Valkyr title with the plus one to all numbers would at least get her close. She doubted it but she hoped.
Assign blessing? Y/N"Yes," she spoke quietly. She knew Freya was still away, probably watching what she was doing in her stat sheet. But… She seemed to shift for a second. Chelsea took that as she wanted more snuggles so she got in closer. She pulled up her full stat sheet to go through her titles but stopped. She noticed something. Something huge. Chosen Title: The Valkyr of Havoc, With Multiple Personalities, Called by The Agony and The Torment, the A Rank Merchant, the Bird of Prey She gasped. She did it.
There were five titles still and Freya's blessing was assigned! She looked at the Valkyr title just to check if they were all working. While active Gives 4x to strength, dexterity, and constitution attributes as long as a weapon and/or shield is in hand. Gives 4x charisma attribute as long as a weapon and/or shield is not in hand. Havoc Specialty +8 skill lvls This was huge. Freya sat up, staring down at Chelsea. She looked at the Bird of Prey and it gave 7 lvls to flight now.
She started looking through all of her titles. A big thing to note was that if she unassigned a title it deleted the slot completely. She would have to reassign Bodarex's blessing then assign whatever titles she wanted then move back to Freya's. This must have been what Freya was talking about when she said there were so many moving parts involved. Getting a blessing to work was challenging and she thought she somehow glitched Bodarex's. There was no way this was by design.
"What did you do!?" Freya asked her.
"I think I… Broke his blessing?" Chelsea laughed.
"So you… You can use both of our blessings at the same time?"
"It appears that way. It works sort of like a slotted bag with my enhancement. If I fill a slotted back to the max while it's expanded to like a bajillion slots, it doesnt shoot them all out when I unequip it. They keep the slots but once the item is removed from a slot, the slot vanishes."
"What the fuck, Chelsea!?" Freya whispered.
"I can't even imagine what you'll do with that."
"I know where I want to go with it. I need more titles. The more I have the more of a toolbox I have. And with yours buffing each title." Chelsea started rubbing her hands together.
"Can you imaging? I wouldn't even need to fight a battle. I could just let my attract skill make everyone fall deeply in love with me and stop fighting. And those who don't, I could just turn into a love thrall."
"Ah, yeah don't do that. That's something you never want to actually do." Freya explained quietly.
"It takes away their sense of self. They sort of go, literally insane after it wears off."
"Oh. Ok well. Nevermind on that then." Passion stared, waiting for Chelsea to elaborate. Awkwardly, the demon looked down at the half-open drawer in front of her and pretended the folded clothes inside needed more attention than they did. Her old room in Valhalla already felt different now that she'd decided to leave it. Nothing had been moved yet, but making the decision to leave gave the feeling of this wasn't hers anymore.
Suffering and Deceit had come before Passion arrived, partly to help Chelsea and partly because Chelsea had asked them not to leave her alone with Passion yet. Passion had accepted that without argument. She stood near the wardrobe with her hands clasped in front of her. "I am, uh am not single anymore."
"You really forgave Ivy?" Passion asked. Chelsea shook her head. She pulled a folded shirt from the drawer, inspected it, then set it into the small pile of things she wanted moved to Freya's room.
"No. Me and umm… Freya."
"What!?" Suffering and Deceit yelled. Passion just stared wide-eyed. Chelsea flinched slightly at the volume, then forced herself to keep moving. She grabbed another garment, smoothed it once, and set it with the others. It was easier to talk while she packed.
"When I asked the other day I was joking. How does that even happen?" Suffering laughed.
"It just did. We have a lot in common and enjoy each other's company and I guess we find each other attractive," Chelsea tried to explain.
"How the fuck…" Deceit asked but didn't know what to ask first. Chelsea shook her head and shrugged. She moved to the little table beside her bed and gathered a few personal things from it. None of them were important, but they were hers. A ribbon. A small folded note. A cool trinket that had gears that turned when she cranked a wheel. She didn't remember receiving it but still didn't want to leave anything behind.
"She's more normal than I think you all realize."
"You refused her blessing and now you're…"
"Actually," Chelsea interrupted.
"I did take her blessing. It gives me a little warm fuzzy feeling seeing her name pop up in my stats."
"I'm guessing we need to keep this as one of the Havoc secrets?" Suffering asked.
"Nope," Chelsea replied.
"We already discussed it. We don't care who knows. We aren't going to stand in front of Valhalla and make an announcement. Just if you know or find out cool. Good for you." Chelsea was afraid to look at Passion as she talked. It felt too much like breaking up with someone else. Passion had confessed her love, and if events hadn't unfolded the way they had, maybe something could've happened there. Maybe Chelsea would've been sitting in this room making different choices.
She reached for Looty and set the little mimic carefully on top of the folded clothes and gently pet the top of her lid. When she finally looked over, Passion wasn't looking at her. She was staring off toward the bed, her face unreadable in a way that made Chelsea's chest tighten.
"Chelsea," she finally said after some more silence.
"How… how do you do half of the things you do?"
"Yeah," Deceit agreed.
"What do you mean?" Chelsea asked.
"Becoming a Valkyr is an honor that is only offered to twelve people at any one time. But for you, somehow, it's not even that important of a part of your life." Chelsea picked up one of the pillows from the bed and held it against her chest. Her words bothered her.
"It's important to me," she started to argue.
"You got adopted by Adriane Wixx. You are some high ranking official with the merchant's guild, and are the consort to our patron god. A god, mind you, that no one even knew could talk before you arrived. Your class just seems not as important." Chelsea lowered the pillow onto the pile and sat on the edge of the bed.
"True. I could see how you'd think that. There are certain aspects that are way more important to me than others. The whole honor thing." She shrugged.
"I still don't get it. It seems like it's just a vague term that gets thrown around randomly. There isn't really a learned doctrine. Just stories and the expectation that you should know what honor is, means, and should be practiced." The other three remained silent as she spoke. Chelsea looked around the room again. This had been her place in Valhalla, but it had never felt entirely hers the way her room at the manor did. Now she was leaving it for Freya's room..
"The training, the comradery, and even though it messed with my mental state, the battle. All are very important to me. You're not wrong. I don't understand what it means to be a Valkyr."
"But you're with Freya?" Suffering asked.
"Those two things are unrelated. I didn't grow up hearing the stories and tales of the Valkyr. First time I heard of one was when I picked the class. To me it's a class that opened up some training and battle experience and let me meet eleven amazing girls and my Freya. I see how people treat me when I go into the Valhalla city but still that doesn't mean much for me." Chelsea unfolded her legs from in front of her and stretched them out. She looked at the pile of things she'd chosen, then at the rest of the room.
There wasn't as much to take as she thought there would be.
"Ahahahaaa!!!" Peg barked out.
"Seriously? You and Freya. Like… Freya Freya? Not just some girl named after Freya?" Chelsea watched as Joe stared up at the sky.
"Yes, me and the real Freya. Is that so hard to believe?" Her berserkers were just doing what they did. Peg was laying on her side in the grass with her head propped up on her hand. Tankard of what she called morning ale sat in front of her, "Oh, shit!" She said.
"That reminds me." She looked back over her shoulder at the tall Sebastian "You said we were getting more berserkers?" He gave a single nod.
"The recruitment office received notice of two brand new berserkers on their way to Valhalla." He seemed to be talking more to Chelsea than replying to Peg.
"Oh!" Chelsea finally said, still watching Joe.
"Any idea if they have bloodrage or bloodlust or… some other deadly sin of the blood?" Chelsea laughed at her own joke. The other three didn't understand the reference. Joe stopped staring at the sky to look at her confused.
"Nevermind."
"They didn't say. The first was a man in his twenties from one of the traveling barbarian tribes. His was one of the Acarr tribes if I heard the report correctly." Sebastian continued. He finally, looked up at the sky trying to see what Joe was looking at.
"The other is a girl… Joe what are you looking at?" He asked in his posh accent.
"Mm." Joe grunted.
"Many things." They waited for him to elaborate. Chelsea ended up prodding him for more information.
"Many things like what?"
"Rainbows. Rainbows are lucky. So are shooting stars." He nodded.
"And bird poop. Bird poop is also lucky." Peg burst into laughter, almost with her mug to her lips. She was lucky she hadn't taken the sip yet or she'd have likely spit it out.
"Bird poop? What the fuck?" she finally said.
"No no. I've heard of that one. Getting pooped on by a bird sucks, but people say it's lucky." Chelsea explained. Joe grunted and gave a single nod.
"General Havoc knows much."
"Aww Joe. Thanks!" Chelsea smiled at him. She turned back to the tall Sebastian again, "Who was the other Berserker?" She asked.
"Right, apologies General." He responded.
"The first is the man from Acarr, the second is a girl. Not a lot is known about her from what I heard. She is being sent here but it didn't specify from which kingdom."
"Cool! We get a mystery girl. That sounds fun." Chelsea replied. She watched as a pair of birds flew overhead and Joe began walking sideways to follow their trajectory, until finally… They flew out of range and he was no closer to his ultimate goal of more luck.
"Mm." he grunted.
